Question What if Aang actually kept this Armor??
How expensive would it be to animate him like this for an entire episode???

How’d they get around the whole “Aang has the upper body strength of a wet noodle” thing
Like he would not be able to WALK in that thing

u/Subject1928 1d ago
He is a monk, they are all about looking like frail little things until it is time to send some fuckers to the next life.

u/S0mecallme 1d ago
Maybe adults
But Aang is a 12 year old boy

To be fair, Toph had been kicking his ass for like 3 months straight at this point.
I would assume if you kicked boulders in half dusk til dawn for that long, you'd probably be shredded, too.

Plus that desert heat is going to melt that fat right off you. Especially considering his vegan diet.

u/ZachRyder 1d ago
Shoutout to the whichever previous Avatar it was who learnt how to breathe fire so those shadows could fall perfectly onto Aang's physique.

A 12 year old boy with magical powers who was acknowledged as a master of his powers by others with the same powers, BEFORE he was told he is also their version of Jesus.

This photo reminds me of Adventure quest world game i used to play back in 2008

u/Fascist_Viking 14h ago
I mean yeah of course. Just looking at what monk gyatso did is proof of that no? They may be pacifists but i brlieve that since aangs training wasnt finished he was only able to make it far enough until the pacifism phylosophy part so maybe they train the monks to fight after a certain age

u/Gorilladaddy69 11h ago
Plus, he floats around with wind or flies a glider or bison everywhere. Frankly I’m kinda surprised bro can even dance like that. Lol

u/SimilarInEveryWay 22h ago
I don't agree, he was shown several times in the show to be physically weak without powers, at least as a kid. Also, he does not "train" his body most of the time, he overly trains his mind though.

u/BoysenberryMedium560 1d ago
I think he is way stronger than he looks, at one point in the show he hangs by his legs from something and throws people up thru a hatch in the ceiling with just abs and arms

Air bending?
17
u/GoT_Eagles 23h ago
Yes, Aang is an air bender.
7
u/tempemailacct153 21h ago
Are there other air benders too?
Haven't seen many when he was in the show.

u/Rabbulion 1d ago
Air bending boost to the force upward. He has great dexterity and more strength than he looks like, but he is still 12 and can’t perform those feats without some bending-related boost.

u/thisaccountgotporn 23h ago
Without bending, who is the strongest of the 4? I feel like Sokka beats Aang in a no-bending barfight
11
u/Dazzling-Low8570 23h ago
No shit, he's (physiologically) older and bigger. Zuko can probably whip both of them, though.
5
1
u/Formal_Illustrator96 21h ago
By the end of the series, Zuko would have a tough time with Sokka.

I don’t think so, when Aang is posing as Kuzon in the fire nation school he effortlessly dances around all that bullies attacks like it’s nothing. I don’t think Sokka could land a hit on Aang.
I think it would go Aang, Sokka, Katara, Momo, Toph

He’d just look so intimidating that all he’d have to do to defeat the Fire Lord would be to stand there… menacingly.

u/alarrimore03 1d ago
Coulda got a flashback joke with his family in LOK or something with him as an adult

5
u/dognus88 21h ago
He can't even stand in the armor (he falls over right after this), but in the drill, he is hanging by his knees and grabbing the gang sans toph and throwing them up. That's crazy strength. In bitter work, he is hauling stones larger than himself around before he can earthbend. He is skinny but strong throughout. But not bulky strong in most instances.
4
u/Cheesemacher 1d ago
He'll just metalbend it
0
u/S0mecallme 1d ago
Did Aang ever learn metal bending? Even as an adult?
17
u/Vairrion 1d ago
Could’ve sworn they made a big deal about kora being the first metal bending avatar .

u/S0mecallme 20h ago
Ya think Toph specifically held that over him because it was funny Like she’d show off turning utensils into toys and Aang would by like “ya know I’d appreciate it if you could teach me that someday”
And she just goes “Yeah Twinkle toes, I bet you would”
2
u/CassianCasius 22h ago
“Aang has the upper body strength of a wet noodle”
How dare you. Aang is is crazy jacked for a 12 year old.

His fighting would be very stiff
74
u/any-blue-9122 1d ago
He may lack offense but his defense would be INSANE
58
u/NbfZay 1d ago
I think his defense would be worse because his mobility would be worse😭 his durability would be crazy tho

u/Willing-Score-4859 1d ago
And what would happen if, when mastering earthbending, I used the earth as a lever and thus could manipulate the armor like a puppet... Nah, bad idea
135
u/Proper-Emu1558 1d ago
Well he wouldn’t have to fight the fire lord. Ozai would be too sick with jealousy.
25
u/HarrowDread 1d ago
Ozai would take a rain check the fight and attempt to have all the black smiths build him a cooler one

u/Realistic-Life-3084 1d ago
this the kinda shit Adventure Quest would give you as starter gear if you convinced your parents to give them $20
44
u/Deep90 1d ago
When it came out I was convinced it was a nod to Adventure Quest lol
8
u/thedoormanmusic32 21h ago
Well the arm is a direct nod to Nightmare from Soul Calibur
2
u/The_Unknown_Dude 11h ago
And the sword is the Legendary sword of Yun-seong from Soul Calibur 2, as it's just a handle.
9
u/Juvination_TFN 19h ago
It’s actually the creators trolling Nickelodeon a bit. The execs were begging to give Aang some kind of armor so they could sell toys.

My question is if Air benders were pacifists why did they have wind swords?
14
13
u/AlexisFR 1d ago
You can't be a pacifist if you can't protect yourself.
9
u/FalxCarius 22h ago
Exactly. IRL there were several examples of buddhist monks taking up martial arts and using weapons and armor, like the Sohei in medieval Japan or the Shaolin monks in China, mostly to fend off hostile outsiders who would threaten their monasteries. The Air Nomads didn't just keel over and let the firebenders kill them: they fought back HARD and killed a lot of Sozin's soldiers on their way out. If Zaheer gets to suffocate a woman with a ball of air, why not slice a firebender lieutenant's head off with a wind sword?
2
u/PT_Piranha 17h ago
Shout out to the Fire National corpses surrounding Gyatso’s un-singed corpse. Man took them all down.
20
u/Oapekay 1d ago
The guys making the toys would be super happy.
11
u/Decimus-Drake 1d ago
IIrc that's what this was referencing. Apparently there was some push to give Aang more accessories like these for the purpose of toy sales.

u/MiscMonkeys 19h ago
Years ago when the show was still on air I read that this armor was a rejected toy design that Brian and Mike put in as a commentary on all the impractical armor from all the anime they hated. Although I read that on Wikipedia so take that with a grain of salt.
3
u/Anvilrocker 1d ago
This always looked like half the higher-tier armours from that browser game Adventure Quest. It was popular around the same time this was running on TV.
4
3
u/AdLazy2989 1d ago
Nickelodeon would go bankrupt paying the cost to animate that armor in the rest of season 3
3
u/Justapornalt1 1d ago
Then Nickelodeon would no longer exist, having gone bankrupt trying to animate it.

u/GeoGackoyt 1d ago
YOU THINK HE CAN FIGHT IN THAT THING!!! that looks heavier then the earth its self!

u/Jamiojango 1d ago
Kept it from his dream? Isn’t this from his stress dream episode ? Not sure how he’d keep it when it’s not real
3
2
u/Thordak35 23h ago
Could he even keep or wear it lore wise due to the skulls?
As a pacifist who doesn't eat meat can he use or wear animal byproducts?
2
2
u/Puffen0 22h ago
Was I the only one who got massive Nightmare from Soul Caliber vibes the first time I saw this armor?
1
u/The_Unknown_Dude 11h ago
Nope. The arm is CLEARLY a Nightmare reference, I saw it right away, and the sword is pretty much Yun-Seong's legendary sword from SCII.

2
u/MortgageAnnual1402 18h ago
Could have kept the „air Sword handle“ would have been hell of a weapon ( yeah i know what aang rly would not like to slice people into peaces)..

u/Lbechiom 17h ago
“Avatar, I’ve come to reclaim my honor by besting you and taking you as my prisone- WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU WEARING?”
“IT’S MY ASSKICKING OUTFIT BITCH.
Also I can’t move.”

u/SeriousFinish6404 14h ago
You ever wondered how how metal would be if you were inside it
Homie can’t DODGE in that, and one fire blast would cool him inside that.
BTW, did you know that this scean was a jab at someone for suggesting avatar characters would wear armor for toy sales?
2
2
u/Moony409 10h ago
There'd be a bunch of toys of it. If i remember correctly, this whole scene was a joke to say how dumb accessory toys for atla would be

He literally couldn't move, why would he keep it?
Fun fact: this armor was the writers shitting on the toymakers who asked for alternate armors to be made into more toys.
1
u/Strawberrycocoa 1d ago
The budget needs to animate this for a full episode would cost us a raid tier.
1
u/Trinketd12 1d ago
Aang: “I’m a pacifist vegetarian who wants to save the world. Please ignore the skull on my shoulder.”
1
u/EnycmaPie 1d ago
He has the body strength of a 12 year old boy, eating monk vegetarian diet. He can't even move in this.
I think Toph would have a better chance to use this armour with her metal bending.

he will have unlocked the avatar state earlier because that's the only way he's going anywhere in that

The heck? What episode was this? I watched ATLA a year ago and I don't remember that one.

Is this our earliest lion turtle reference

u/WatchingInSilence 1d ago
If Aang kept the armor, Nickelodeon would have canceled the production mid-season for going over budget.
1
u/haby001 1d ago
I feel that conventional armor is only good against weapons. And offers little to no protection against bending.
Fire can cook you, water can freeze you, death can swallow you, and I guess wind would be the only one it protects you by grounding you
So pretty useless overall for a bender who fights benders and is op against conventional weapons

u/JesterInTheDark 23h ago
Ozai would’ve willingly gave up his fire bending out of pure respect and fear
1
u/thesanguineocelot #1 Boulder Fan 23h ago
Animating it would be super cheap, because he can't move.
1
u/Ristar87 23h ago
It'd be hilarious if there was a mannequin on Air Temple Island with Aang's "Battle Armor" or some fanboy that collected it based off rumor that the Avatar once bought it.
1
u/langsend12 22h ago
The show would have been canceled because the animation budget would have been unsustainable.

id assume he would air bend to make it easier to move. he’d train his air bending a lot if you chose to wear it all the time.
1
u/WayCheap3949 2h ago
It would be really dope if they used this armor in the new series in the background like they made a tv series which the protagonist wears this armor that would be amazing

u/MarcusMace 1h ago
This was a hilarious visual gag. Laughed the first time I saw it, and it still always gets a chuckle out of me

u/YourLocalSnitch 1d ago
It wouldnt be expensive at all. The entire episode would be him standing still struggling to move anything
