Question Access to the Gottard Tunnel from Airolo

We are driving back to the UK from Italy tomorrow & thinking of stopping in Airolo on the way.

Bit worried about the extreme weather warning but we can't really delay our journey unfortunately. We will definitely use the tunnel instead of the pass due to this though.

Can you access the tunnel directly from Airolo at the moment, or do you still have to go to back to Quinto to get on the autoroute? Would prefer not to do that if possible due to the queues that inevitably build up!

The answer Is in your question.

The longer the queue, the higher the chance they close the entrance in Airolo.

OK great, thanks. I can only remember it being closed the most recent times I've been there so I guess I am always there at busy times!

But things can change, all it needs is an accident in the tunnel.
