Can you please explain how you made the cherry?

1/2 cup Demerara sugar 1/2 cup tart cherry juice 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 tsp almond extract 1 cinnamon stick 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg 1 pinch kosher salt 1 cup Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur 1 pound sweet red cherries pitted and stemmed

  1. Combine all ingredients except for maraschino liqueur and cherries, and combine over heat until sugar is dissolved.

  2. Add Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur and whisk to combine. Add pitted cherries and let simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, make sure cherries are fully coated in syrup.

  3. Turn off the heat, discard the cinnamon stick and let the cherries fully cool before storing them in an airtight jar in the fridge.

The longer they simmer for the softer the cherries will get, I did 10 minutes and they seem perfect to me

I went to the store yesterday and the Luxardo went up to $25.99. It’s insane. So this seems like a reasonable step. I make all my syrups… mostly. So why not? Thanks!!!!!

I need mine with BlackStrap Rum. Does that version have a name? I always call it the Giuseppe version.
