Other Does the manga get more subtle?

Bought both the box sets because I was pretty sure I would love TG. After one volume I can say I'm really enjoying it so far, I like how kaneki being a half ghoul is at least to start more of a curse than a power boost like every shounen.

I'm wondering though, do the themes and everything become more subtle? Right now pretty much everything is in my face. I'm talking about how they keep mentioning how ghouls can't eat food every time one of them eats food, or keneki continually talking about how he doesn't belong as a human or ghoul. I'm pretty sure TG is considered seinen but it's really pushing the story as if it were a shounen if that makes sense.

Idk just an observation not really a complaint.

First, its not a shonen, don't compare it to one.

Its a sainen, made for adult rather than teens. Its not about growing stronger, its about emotional developement of the character throughout the story.

I don't think you quite understand what shonen and Seinen mean

Nor OP's complain when it was exactly about the early manga lacking subtlety and instead being very in your face when it comes to the theme's it's exploring... What is a quite standard shonen critique, actually

I mean, its not the basis of shonens but it is what a shonen mostly is, the most common tropes that is.

No, it's not. You can see it for yourself right now if you want to test it out, load up manga plus or google last week's Jump magazine and you'll see a pretty evenly split number between battle shonen and others like slice of life and dramas. Battle shonen are just the most internet popular but even then there's plenty of hyper popular non-battle shonen as well- Death Note, Spy X Family, Komi-san, Tokapi's Original Sin, A Silent Voice, etc.

And it's also disingenuous to say that like plenty of popular seinen doesn't fit that bill exactly as well, Record of Ragnarok, the One Punch Man manga, etc.
