Other Does the manga get more subtle?

Bought both the box sets because I was pretty sure I would love TG. After one volume I can say I'm really enjoying it so far, I like how kaneki being a half ghoul is at least to start more of a curse than a power boost like every shounen.

I'm wondering though, do the themes and everything become more subtle? Right now pretty much everything is in my face. I'm talking about how they keep mentioning how ghouls can't eat food every time one of them eats food, or keneki continually talking about how he doesn't belong as a human or ghoul. I'm pretty sure TG is considered seinen but it's really pushing the story as if it were a shounen if that makes sense.

Idk just an observation not really a complaint.

Certain things you mentioned here (not gonna mention for spoiler reasons) are as focused on because they’re going to be turned on their head eventually. Just keep reading as long as you’re enjoying it’ll all make sense over time
