The simple fact of being a child, it's true that he has seen other ghouls eat human flesh and be aware of it, but seeing a child who is the symbol of innocence or something pure devouring human remains and kind of breaks layers, in my view the secret to understanding ghouls is not treating them as humans but as people after all humans they are not but they have feelings and other things that humans have and like thinking about a carnivorous human being, but in the case of kaneki it was just scared even when seeing a "monster" child

That’s always been an interesting topic to me. Like, in fiction when there are other races that are similar to humans in intelligence and sentience, the humans of the series tend to talk about treating them as “human”. As if humans are the epitome of “people” (In real life it makes sense, but in a setting where there are separate yet similar beings, not as much). I feel like it’s really important to put a distinction between humans and whatever that separate species is when they show that they also think and feel. They’re equal. Not human, but they’re people. And they should be treated with the same respect you’d give any human for the sake of them being people.

But this situation of ghouls and human coexistence is quite complicated: if they hunted people and rose, they would be treated as mere monsters or beings of another species, but they, in addition to looking like humans, still live hidden in human society and still have consciousness and think as individuals, face trial and even a criminal record as if they were an ordinary person.

I even address this in the story I'm doing, but I don't know if I'm going to continue it or post it and look, I'm drawing it and I only have part 1 hahahah

Oh no I get that, I’m not speaking on any specific series necessarily, I just meant that it’s conceptually offensive to refer to a species with human level sentience/intelligence as being “Human” purely because they also function as people, it elevates humans as the standard of personhood, implying that the other species is less legitimate

Of course in tokyo ghoul it’s nigh impossible that humanity would adhere to this concept, and honestly? Understandably so. I just think it’s a pretty cool dynamic. Also I’d love to hear about your story lmao, it sounds cool

She's like 14 at this time it would have made sense if she's under 10

Keep in mind she’s really sheltered.

So her parents didn’t teach her how to eat?

I don’t think Ghouls can just casually teach their kids how to eat human meat when they’re being hunted 24/7.

I mean their family lived a human life for a long time and if we take anime as canon, her dad was a doctor. There’s no way her parents didn’t teach her to eat.

You’re right. Then again, she was indoors and wasn’t expecting anyone to see her eating and that’s why she was eating like that.
