I read the manga first time last year and I was amazed how good it was, should have been up there with Naruto, bleach and one piece…

From 2012 to 2014, the anime was pushed very hard because it was seen as a future replacement for Naruto or Bleach. Hell, it could even rival One Piece if it was given the proper development.
The main problem was that: it was pushed as a shonen, not as a seinen. Thus, the anime was HEAVILY censored in order to be kid-friendly. And where the original manga went hardcore on the bloodshed and violence, the anime displayed nearly no blood. The animation wasn't the best either and the music, not memorable (despite some good tracks).
So the anime failed to meet expectations and, in 2015, the plug was pulled. As a manga reader, it was mortifying to see the manga being rushed to hell and reaching a conclusion not even satisfactory. Toriko is the summum of wasted potential, for me; I'm still sad about it because it had indeed the potential to match One Piece in terms of world-building and narration.

I’m still here. My dog is named komatsu and I love reading it still.
I heard the author at a 1 shot come out earlier this month but then never saw it. Any clues?

Just started my reread a week ago. Every other page in Ice Hell I found myself saying out loud "Tommyrod, you son of a bitch" with gleeful contempt. Looked up the price of Volume 10 since Toriko vs. Tommyrod is just an impeccably iconic fight and found myself saying that sentence with real contempt with just a dash of awe. No reprints sucks.

The strongest form of Alu, who merged with the gourmet demon, turned into a super Ajin and punched infinite nails

There's a new one shot called Baka Battle that's supposedly gunna drop off not already from Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro (the Toriko author)

My Gourmet Cells are still alive.
Toriko (Manga) was what instilled in me the value of not wasting food and ingredients, and also to learn how to cook (combined with Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma).
It's just quite unfortunate that the build up and climax of the battles felt a little rushed for me (same as Food Wars)

Jumping on here late, but whether it grows or not, the fandom will remain. Creator is a nonce as u/RoninPI so eloquently put it (kindest non expletive terms)
But it’s been 10 years since it ended. So we can appreciate the beauty of it as the standalone work of manga that it is: uniquely bizarre, perfectly comedic, and intentionally engaging and sentimental at all the right moments (until some rushed ones at the very end)
We get to appreciate Toriko and the cast for what they are without wondering or arguing over what they’ll be next.
And it’s a damn fun read if you ask me. Real fans of manga from every generation will appreciate it for how it defines the time it was written in, the potential of what it could have been, and the fact we won’t get another chapter but we have all of these ones. Growth or decline, it won’t die anytime soon.
This went on way longer than I thought but I was buying time for my food to cool down. I give thanks for this worlds bounty :)

I think the last 74 chapters were dog water but damn I wish Build King hadn't gotten axed so soon.

What do you expect? The manga ended nearly 10 years ago and the anime even longer. Neither were exactly critical darlings. There isn't exactly any new content on the horizon and the creator is a nonce.
The fandom isn't exactly going to grow it's a pretty uphill battle.
