GILLFUCKED We added flairs for posts. They are pretty simple, did you catch and release it to "swim away fine"? Or did you "kill it and grill it"?
Please use those when submitting posts. When your post is removed because you got flamed for improper fish handling and you did not flair your post, this is why. Thanks for understanding, and as always, please choose to be constructive and helpful, versus argumentative and trollish. We do not allow the latter and you could be banned.

Catch and Release - let's discuss it and try our best to educate newcomers to the concept.
Catch and release is not always necessary, beneficial, or even the legal thing to do in every situation, however. During my younger days, I bought in to "release everything you catch" philosophy. As I gained more experience, and learned the intricacies of different fisheries, my opinion on this changed drastically. Whether the fishery is overrun with an invasive species that competes with native stocks, a species blowing up in population out of control, a very healthy stock where sport angling take will not effect the escapement of spawning (the pink salmon runs near me fall in this category), anadramous (sea run) hatchery released fish that must be removed prior to the wild fish spawn, or is just a put and take fishery etc. There is no blanket statement for when and where C&R is the right thing to do.
The most important thing: Educate yourself on the species, and fishery in which you are fishing. Follow the laws, and do what will be best for that particular fishery. And take home some hard earned meat when you can!
Why Catch and Release?
Conservation: It's a method to prevent overfishing and maintain healthy fish populations, especially in areas with high fishing pressure.
Ethical Fishing: It allows anglers to enjoy fishing without taking fish home for consumption, promoting a more sustainable approach to recreational fishing.
Habitat Protection: By reducing the number of fish removed from the water, catch and release helps protect the delicate balance of aquatic ecosystems.
Best Practices for Catch and Release:
Use the Right Gear:
Hooks: Employ barbless hooks or circle hooks, which are less likely to cause deep hook wounds.
Tackle: Ensure your tackle is strong enough to land the fish quickly and efficiently, minimizing the time the fish is out of the water.
Net: Use a soft, knotless mesh or rubber landing net to avoid damaging the fish's scales and gills.
Handle Fish Carefully:
Keep the Fish Wet: Avoid removing the fish from the water for extended periods, and keep its body wet, especially if you must handle it. This includes keeping gloves wet in the winter, or taking them off entirely, when landing the fish. If you insist on handling the fish at all, ensure that you have wet hands. Keep em wet
Support the Fish Properly: Support the fish's belly near the water surface to prevent injury.
Be Gentle: Avoid squeezing the fish tightly, as this can damage internal organs and muscle tissue.
Never Touch the Gills: Gills are highly sensitive and can be easily damaged. Rapid Release:
Unhook Quickly: Remove the hook quickly and carefully, using a dehooker if necessary.
Return to the Water Immediately: Return the fish to the water as soon as possible after taking photos and measurements.
Observe the Fish: Ensure the fish swims away strongly before leaving the area.
Other Considerations:
Measure and Weigh: If required, measure and weigh the fish quickly and accurately, then release it.
Take Photos: Capture the moment with a photo, but do so quickly and return the fish to the water.
Don't Hang Fish: Never hang a fish on a stringer or gaff, as this can cause serious injury.

SWAM AWAY FINE - CnR My personal best Brown Trout.
I only started fishing this year, I’ve been exclusively fishing wild trout in creeks and streams around my area! Caught this guy last night on my walk back to the truck. This is my personal best trout so far and probably the most euphoric moment in my adult life haha.

Beginner here, does this spot look trouty to you?
This is a small river in the Italian Alps. A few kilometers upstream there is a small reservoir from where the river starts. I tried a few of these pools with different spinners for half a day. No bites, no sightings, nothing. I know there could many reasons for that, I was just wondering if my basic knowledge of good trout spots is part of the problem.

UL rod help
I bought a 6 foot celilo and loved it. I wanted an upgrade to a nicer and longer rod so I got the TFO trout II. It’s a nice rod but feels super noodly throwing a size 1 aglia and I don’t like how whippy it is. I’m looking at the st croix premier, Shimano Sensilite or just a longer celilo. Anybody have experience with these or have any other recs? I have a whippy side arm cast so I prefer a rod with faster recovery.

New to fishing, Need help.
I’ve always lived in southern Maine, grew up bass and stripper fishing. Recently I caught my first trout at a stocked pond, but I want the real experience. I have a good overall ultra light spinning setup with a bunch of BFS lures and plenty of spinners/weighted bobbers and flies. Where I can I go within an hour of Portland and have a good chance a catching any sort of trout out of a river/creek? From the bank that is….

Question about rainbow trout
I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here is my question:
I’ve been eating more fish lately for the health benefits and also because it tastes good, mostly rainbow trout because it is high in omega 3 and vitamin d and low in heavy metals from what I’ve heard. I eat it about 3 times a week and buy fillets of it from the store with the skin on.
My question is, is it safe to eat rainbow trout with the scales? I usually scale them with a knife but I’m wondering if I should even do it since the scales are so small. I heard the scales can contain 5 times more heavy metals than in the muscle so I’m wondering if I should scale them or not even bother.

Killed and Grilled *🏴PB BROWN TROUT🏴* First time using a feeder and maggots in the Upper River Severn, Wales UK
Started off with a grayling then I got my PB river fish. Not bad for my first time maggot fishing on my own! I was literally shaking when I banked the trout 😭 My dad always took me fishing with maggots when I was a little kid , but since I’ve been going fishing on my own I’ve always been a lure fisherman mainly spinners because I never thought I would have the patience to just sit there and watch the rod.
But this week my dad picked up some maggots from my local tackle shop he showed me a quick little set up that would “guarantee” fish and he wasn’t wrong!!
Anyone rough guessed on weight would be nice appreciated I’m thinking 2lb ish

Medium-light extra fast for all purpose rod?
I'll preface this by saying my primary trout rig is a 7' ultralight-fast with a 1000 reel. I love it for small bodies of water like creeks, rivers and small lakes, especially with spinners etc. Here's the rub though - sometimes I want to switch to a 3/8 float, some split shot, and a nightcrawler, and I want something that's going to cast that setup out a hell of a long way from shore. I also intend on doing some bass and walleye fishing on the rare occasion.
I just picked up a Fenwick eagle 7' medium-light extra fast and I'm intending on pairing it with some 10lb braid with 6lb fluoro on a pfleuger supreme 30x. Is this setup going to get the job done, or am I going to run into line breakage etc?
Thanks for the help and I appreciate the time you take in response.
