Your Week in Anime (Week 666)
This is a general discussion thread for whatever you've been watching this last week (or recently, we really aren't picky) that's not currently airing. For specifically discussing currently airing shows, go to This Week in Anime.
Make sure to talk more about your own thoughts on the show than just describing the plot, and use spoiler tags where appropriate. If you disagree with what someone is saying, make a comment saying why instead of just downvoting.
This is a week-long discussion, so feel free to post or reply any time.

Watched Cocolors. It's a somewhat interesting series about this post apocalyptic world where everyone wears these masks because of how dangerous the environment is. The thing it has going for it is that it is that the shading makes the CGI look quite good. The rest of it fell flat for me. The scenes were all kinda just happening back to back with some developments seeming to happen off screen, and then, the whole things ends. There was really nothing about the characters or their motivations that really hooked me and made me care for what ends up happening at the end. Oh well. :P
Started the first of Hirasaka Arata's yuri mecha anime, which would be Vapor Trail. It's pretty ambitious and does a decent enough job telling its story. There's definitely potential in the rather rough presentation.
Next is Penetrate Blue: Vapor Trail Another Age 2824. It's a separate thing from Vapor Trail. Definitely more ambitious in its animation. However, the sound design is quite rough, particularly with the voice acting. Had some decent action going on, but the story didn't quite have time to breathe due to the shorter run time. The big bad coming out of no where isn't as good as the one in Vapor Trail, but the two leads are still decent enough.
After that is Volicia of Pluto: Vapor Trail Another Age 2006. There's a noticeable upgrade in how it looks, but it still looks distinctly like Hirasaka Arata's style. It feels like a very standard first episode in a lot of ways with how the MC is suddenly thrust into some conflict they do not understand and receives a power up mid fight. It is much more abstract/vague with a lot of what is happening though. I doubt there will be an explanation for how the MC manages to will her (future) wife back into existence when the MC of Vapor Trail could only settle for disappearing into the cosmos with hers.
Finally (for now) I saw Volicia of Pluto Chapter 2: Ultramarine, which is the next part in the yuri mecha trilogy from Hirasaka Arata. I overall enjoyed it, but I felt its pacing was a little too quick as it crammed in quite a lot of what you might expect from a mecha series as well as the high school setting.
I am a little indifferent to the vague stuff with Akio and the white haired being. It's been done a lot, so I'll have to see with the next one how it pans out. Hopefully, I can still remember enough of this in a few years...
