Policy + Social Issues Elderly and disabled Medicaid patients who lack transportation missing appointments and waiting for hours due to problems with Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Transportation workers are contracted by Medicaid, and there is a lack of an efficient system and accountability between Medicaid and these workers. Contractors often face logistical challenges and poor oversight, and are underpaid, overworked, and in some cases, even negligent. Phone calls get nowhere, and patients sit abandoned or miss critical appointments. Meanwhile, Medicaid is doing nothing to address this, acting like saints because of this "free" service that is not actually functional. These patients often lack the time or energy needed to advocate strongly for these issues, and are basically stuck in silence, neglected by Medicaid.

What in the AI image
Edit: I got a notification that my comment was too short so in the interest of “intelligent conversation” I’ll add that it’s very difficult for me to take an article or piece of writing seriously if it’s accompanied by AI art. You don’t need a visual to present a compelling argument in text, and in this case the illustration makes this blog post look less trustworthy than it would on its own.

Specially not ChatGPT images, which look too comical and same-y. AI art is all mostly terrible but there’s something uniquely weird about ChatGPT

I'm not sure I feel the same way just because I've seen it so much at this point that I kinda skip over the fact. To me, if its not a badly designed AI image at least, it feels like seeing a stock image. Obviously AI itself strikes some bad feelings but in reality people everywhere are using it and I'm not expecting it to go away.

I am not trying to argue that the problem of unreliable provided transportation for non emergent medical care isn’t worth addressing but the link pretty much amounts to a blog post with an anecdote and links to two articles. One article is an opinion piece from a Connecticut taxi lobbyist saying the states’ Medicaid law program needs to pay taxi services/contracted transportation services more and not rely on uber, it cites no data. The other at least cites data but uses national estimates of poor outcomes due to missed appointments attributed to lack of transportation and makes no attempt to quantify how much of this is due to lack of funding towards or regulation/monitoring of these transportation providers as opposed to the myriad of other possible reasons elderly and disabled patients may miss appointments.
The linked blog essentially shits on Medicaid for lack of regulation which hey maybe that’s fair but it’s very much lacking in substance.

The blog is written by a healthcare worker talking about some of what she's seen essentially, so I believe that supplements her articles. But I see your points as well.
