what’s a budget setup someone should get to scratch?

I sometimes suggest using a portable setup like a Numark PT-01, Reloop Spin, or Stanton STX for people intrested in scratching but not willing to make a big investment. Those will be your cheapest option to enter turntablism, however each has its own handicaps and will not really provide the experience of a full size rig.
I’ve seen several other posts from users here about obtaining second hand equipment for fairly good deals. Many people invest in equipment only to realize they don’t have the time, passion and/or talent, so they end up selling it for cheap to recoup losses.
There’s also something to be said for investing in nice equipment so you don’t have to upgrade later. My first rig cost 500 usd; that was two turntables, a mixer, needles, headphones, slipmats and little monitor speakers. I was told if I really stuck with djing that I would outgrow that rig, which I did, so would I have been better to invest in higher grade equipment? I was too excited to get started so what I got sufficed until I was ready to grow with the equipment, and that worked for me.
I will say this, one downside to djing is that better equipment will make a better dj. A seasoned turntablist can make use of bad equipment, but it will hamper their ability if they are trained on decent working tech.
That being said, one can definitely learn the fundamentals on basic equipment while continuing to learn and grow. Good luck with the hunt!

I use to scratch to dnb all the time back in the day. Hip hop acapellas on top of some Ed rush or 31 records joints. The half time works so well.
And very nice chops my guy !

That’s actually how I got into DnB! I had a residency back in ‘10 where a homie would come up from Boston and spin DnB to my Hip Hop, it was love at first listen! And thank you!

You’re my most favourite turntablist to watch on this sub.
