This is reminding me of what happened to Mollie Tibbetts :(

i hate how much her whole life was essentially shit on by her death. All of her values and her empathy? No. Now instead her name is instead only going to be equated with "immigrants=bad."

Trump's America. They don't want to admit 90% of violence against women is white males in the USA.

30

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '18

I mean no offense but source? Don't forget they are a majority of people.

-8

u/Sityl Aug 24 '18

You asked for a source and then explained why a source wasn't needed.

14

u/Tannerbananer69 Aug 24 '18

How does that statement mean a source is unnecessary??

-1

u/Dejohns2 Aug 24 '18

White men are not a majority of the population in the US. Non-hispanic whites make up ~60% of the US population. When you remove the women from this equation it comes out to ~30%.

Unless you think that 30% is a majority. You'd still be wrong though, since there a greater proportion of American women than men.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '18

Do you live in the US? Even if you did your stats would still be wrong. 60% of the US? Really?

2

u/Dejohns2 Aug 24 '18

I literally took it off Wikipedia about US demographics, which gets their info from the US census.

The White, non-Hispanic or Latino population make up 61.3% of the nation's total, with the total White population (including White Hispanics and Latinos) being 76.9%.

Do you even live in the US?

Edit: Just because you "don't see color" doesn't mean people of other colors don't exist.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '18

Okay let me rephrase what I said. The largest majority of men in america are white men. 1/3 of black men are in prison, so are large amounts of Hispanic men. White men are more likely to get married than both of these groups.

I also looked for the 90% thing and couldn't find anything. I don't want to undermine women's issues however, "More than 40% of domestic violence victims are male, report reveals".

And also mother fucker don't come to me with the race argument because I am actually black. I can link you my twitter profile if you want, to stop being a piece of shit.

2

u/Dejohns2 Aug 24 '18

Eh... not actually true. 90% of convicted/known murderers are men, but I've never seen any statistics alleging that it's 90% white men perpetrating these crimes.

That proves im right were not looking at native born people only illegal vs legal immigrants. The ones who came here legally do less crime and the ones who come illegally do more.

0

u/Dejohns2 Aug 25 '18

No, it doesn't. All immigrants, those with and without papers, commit less crime than foreign born residents. Even if those who are undocumented commit more crime than those who are not, they still commit less crime than native-born residents. It proves you are wrong. And those people without papers would likely commit less crime if their basic needs were met via access to social safety nets.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '18

No it proves I'm right I'm only talking about illegal vs legal immigrants not native born people.

1

u/Dejohns2 Aug 25 '18

Unless you're advocating that we remove native-born persons along with undocumented ones, you're being a huge hypocrite.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '18

Yes because they are not immigrants. They were born here.

1

u/Dejohns2 Aug 25 '18

OMG, you are sad. I hope you can get some empathy for other people.

Not sure where you got that from. Projecting much? My first thought is that crazy douche-canoes need to learn how to handle rejection without resorting to violence.

I don't care what the immigration status of people are as long as they aren't attacking others for no reason.

7

u/Treemurphy They/Them Aug 24 '18

im glad, thats exactly how you should view it! If you havent kept up with big news outlets than I recommend you dont look too into it, basically whats been going on with her death is this:

•Major news outlets are describing the scenario as "an illegal immigrant murdering a defenseless college girl." (rather than the story that a harasser and stalker murdered this poor woman because she didnt do what he expected)

•This has lead to most conservative and republican medias to point to her death as evidence that america needs closed borders (even though that goes against what the victim's own viewpoints were)

•At the moment, Some of her family and friends are begging both major networks and begging big-name individuals to stop reporting/talking about her death at all

EDIT: my opinions on the bullet points are now in parenthesis

1

u/ripnostalrius Aug 24 '18

I gotta say i know nothing about the usa illegal immigration stuff but wouldn't someone who is wanted by the police in mexico have all the advantage to go to the usa where he can start a new? or do they get find out most the time?

My son is 9 and we've already been talking about consent for a couple years now (in age-appropriate ways). It's not a hard topic to discuss, and he definitely gets it.

33

u/katieames Aug 24 '18

I wish more parents did this. My niece shoved a boy at school because he kept grabbing her, even after she told him to stop. The boy's dad told my brother to teach his daughter to be more polite. My brother told him to "teach your son not to be such a little pervert."

24

u/strawberrymarigolds Aug 24 '18

There's such a double standard too. Girls will be scolded for being too "mean" when they defend themselves but will be blamed for not saying no hard enough when boys hurt them.

16

u/katieames Aug 24 '18

Also, when a girl is told she's "overreacting," it's usually after she's given the boy multiple warnings.

8

u/SaintPetersbot Aug 24 '18

This is a large part of the problem but teaching all men not to do these things won't solve the problem. Individuals like this are fringe members of society and thus don't see themselves conforming to any standards society sets. I'm not sure what the solution is but I know for a fact any sexual assaulter under the age of 25 has been told not to sexually assault people before, they just don't care.

My hope is that they actually start prosecuting people for what is actually an existing crime. Obviously this case became a murder so I would hope they throw the book at him, but a large part of the issue is that people constantly get away with the "nice guy(tm)" routine of stalking and verbal abuse.

Not the ones I meet when gaming online. They have some serious warped views and are happy to send their underaged dick pics to strangers who might be women. It's fucking sick being exposed to child porn unintentionally because kiddo wants any girl to be his girlfriend and can't handle meeting one in the wild (even if I am a fucking adult half way across the world). And they whine like three year olds, tantrums, insults, and all.

5

u/someredditgoat Aug 24 '18

Hit them with that distribution of cp charge. Xbox will ban them and that's wayyyy before the fun even gets started.

I was pointing out that this wasnt a demon child or that most boys are mopey like the commenter above claimed My experience with kids his age is that they are entitled and view women as toys to mess with and harrass. The dice pics come from whispers on my twitch, and PM's in discord. Hell yes there is a big difference. She is alive btw and is literally scared for life because of this fourteen years olds actions.

PC. plus I twitch, discord, am an active online member of different gaming groups and sites.

Enjoying my hobby of gaming and living my daily life.

Wait... Did you just try and say because I have a Facebook account or discord, or steam I am at fault for people sending me photos of their genetials. That somehow they see I have a twitch account (for example) and then suddenly that forces them to take their phones out drop their pants and send it to me? All because they were intranced by my avatar being my cat?

Fuck off. It's not disportional it is unfortunately very common for a lot of women in the world we live in because men (and boys) feel they can objectify and expose themselves to women for their own pleasure. It's not about me having a phone number. It is about a women existing and others feeling that existence is for their gratification.

I should know better than stepping out my front door? Than turning on my PC? What do you mean put yourself out there? Trying to do something j enjoy?

I am a fucking teacher. I see horny socially untrained pre teens five days a week. And it is damn right unacceptable for them to expose themselves to me in any setting, online or off.

If not the cat avatar, is it my usertag? My feminie voice? It can't be my face because I don't have a fucking webcam.

If you want to see underage dick pics you are sick and need professional help. If you think others should accept that child porn is part of enjoying gaming online and not be concerned about it, you are disgusting.

I am responsible for myself. And I hate that because of men and boys doing this shit I could lose my career. I hate not being able to enjoy my hobby. But I will not be pushed out of a space because I should be expected and blamed for others harrassing me. I will call it out and fight it. This "boys will be boys, but girls must be better or they deserve it" attitude has to end.

No it's not. Stop talking out of your arse because you are bored and want to bash someone. You have wasted countless hours on Reddit trying to tear others down and have nothing to show for it. But claiming I am responsible for the actions of a kid half way around the world is idiotic.

Maybe you don't give enough credit to how much a fourteen years old knows and understands about the world around them but I do. Some have won the Peace prize.

Hell, one right here stabbed a girl because she said no and he didn't like that. But I am guessing in your mind he is still a tiny weeny baby and can't manage those tough feelings he gets. Even though she is in hospital because of his actions. Is it her fault for saying no? Or going to school that day? Maybe if she was older it would have been right?

Now bugger off, I am bored of you.

The problem is that adolescent kids nowadays are growing up with games like Call of Duty and the like. I'm not saying that it directly causes these issues, but it definitely causes some desensitization. I say this as a high school aged boy seeing it around me. The dick pics, that I more contribute to hormones and the internet giving them stupid ideas

7

u/SaintPetersbot Aug 24 '18

I think GTA would have been a better example if you're going to finger video games as the culprit. Even still I think exposure to porn is drastically more damaging than even GTA like games. Frankly I dont think video games are a major contributing factor but even still this really wasn't a pure violence issue, it was a sexual violence issue.

2

u/a-little-sleepy Aug 24 '18

I think the plague desensitized more kids.

14 year olds are children. It's absurd to think otherwise. Being a child doesn't excuse behavior thoufh. Framing him as an adult isnt any sort of logic though. No disagreement on the beating his wife either.

I’m not DontRunReds but yeah, there are entitled assholes that are ready to stab people if they don’t get what they want, wandering about loose.

9

u/HawkspurReturns Aug 24 '18

Not having learned to not be selfish etc is not a mental health issue, it's a socialisation issue.

1

u/SaintPetersbot Aug 24 '18

I think you're both on a similar page here. That entitled asshole complex (if it gets bad enough) is effectively a mental health problem. Its a socialization and cooperation problem that really is all too common. The way I see it this was an overlap, there's a larger percent of people that are entitled assholes, but this came to a flashpoint with this overlap into people that are capable of killing people, which I'd say is a smaller percentage.

I just think writing peiple off as a "demon child" or "monster" or stuff like that is dangerous and disingenuous. Just about everyone is capable of assault or murder when they make stupid decisions and fail to exercise some semblance of self-control.

I mean, sure I know of people with schizophrenia that have murdered but the vast majority of murderers around these parts have been normal people. (Also I know people with issues like depression, bipolar, and schizophrenia that still work and contibute to society). Point being same goes for assault, domestic violence, and all that. Most of the time it's some normal dude who got pissed off about something and acted stupid. Sometimes it's someone acting with an active hallucination or paranoia. Most of the time though it's just a pissed off moron. My guess? This one is probably premeditated knife at school and sneaking behind a specific target and all.

Even if there are mitigating factors, the attacker here should be spending his formative years in juvie or a psych ward. He is a danger to others and should be locked up at least till 21 if not longer. I know teens that went away for far less.

1

u/ripnostalrius Aug 24 '18

Just about everyone is capable of assault or murder when they make stupid decisions and fail to exercise some semblance of self-control.

What? For a psycopathic person maybe but for just about everyone id hope most people would have in their value that murdering (even just hurting) an other human is bad, its not a matter of self control.

1

u/DontRunReds Aug 25 '18

So, your community has never had a Fine Upstanding CitizenTM kill a loved one in a moment of anger after a night of drinking? You've never heard of a sleep-deprived shift worker lash out at a coworker who said the wrong thing at the wrong time?

We are different people when sober and when drunk. We are different people when well-rested and happy than when stressed from the death of a family member or the loss of a job. I've seen time and time again otherwise "good people" who are different in private than they are in public. Or who are different under immense stress than they are normally.

Maybe I'm a pessimist about human nature, but yeah I think any human is capable of wrongdoing if they don't take a moment to deescalate a situation.

1

u/ripnostalrius Aug 25 '18 edited Aug 25 '18

I can see what you mean like youd be more likely to insult someone if you are in a bad mood even if you wouldn't normally but hurting someone should make you reconsider how you deal with your emotion.

But you may be right that most people would kill but i'd say under extremes circonstances like survival, or someone killed somebody close to you and you kinda feel like they do not deserve to live anymore.

3

u/LoneFolw Aug 24 '18 edited Aug 25 '18

Doesn't the United states have sex ed?

3

u/Dejohns2 Aug 24 '18

The quality and quantity of sex education you receive varies by state.

A lot of states mandate that they teach abstinence only, so basically vilify sex and don't teach you how to protect yourself.

3

u/DontRunReds Aug 25 '18

Sure but....

My school system basically formally taught sex ed three times, once in elementary, once in middle, and once in high school. At the time, the middle school curriculum was a bit light on topics of actual sex, consent, etc. It was still more "if an adult abuses you" focused. A lot of that "how to be in a relationship" stuff was saved for high school. Problem is, incoming freshman haven't taken the high school class yet.

Things are starting to change now, despite the protestations of some prudish uber-Christian parents, and while I'm thankful for that it's still kind of inadequate. The kids aren't getting enough about that's how to's of a relationship prior to 9th grade. It need not be sexualized or anything, it applies to friendships and family relationships too.

1

u/LoneFolw Aug 25 '18

Ah, interesting. Where I'm from the teacher from Elementary school was quite good and could cover all the topics about consent, safety and the basic stuff. At middle school we more or less only had theory: Atonomy, Conception, etc.

6

u/bannana Aug 24 '18

Young people?

8

u/earthgarden Aug 24 '18

No. Young MEN. Women are not out here attacking and killing men at numbers anywhere near what men do to women. This is an issue of male violence combined with sexism. It will not change until MEN address and change it, because they are the ones overwhelmingly doing it. This is something specific to men, but also universal to the male class. This is not just white men, or muslim men, or poor men, or young men. It's just MEN, all the world over it's the same song of men doing this to women.

3

u/bannana Aug 24 '18

I don't disagree with what you are saying that men are aggressors the majority of time but I think that all teaching of consent should be for everyone there is no negative to teaching consent from a young age to girls and boys together (starting around 6) I think it should then be segued into basic biology first then into comprehensive sex ed in a few years then into sexual/emotional navigation after that (all of this taking place from grade school to high school). I feel all of this should be should be taught to mixed gender classes so everyone can hear all of it even if it doesn't necessarily pertain to them specifically since all of the information is important and girls learning and interacting with boys while learning the same info leaves little room for confusion.
