Discussion Does Birmingham deserve the Stallions?

I’m a Stallions fan. I was a fan of the original Stallions. I listened to the very first Stallions game against the Michigan Panthers on the radio in 1983.

The current version has won three straight championships and very much in contention for a fourth. But the attendance is absolutely putrid.

I’ve heard all the excuses. “It’s hot during the day.” Yeah so how come they don’t show up on Friday night? “People don’t like to go downtown at night.” OK. The lack of marketing complaint is certainly valid but it’s been four years. Pretty much every game has been televised.

Three straight championships, and the stadium looks practically empty. So disappointing. I know the city all too well, and it’s still disappointing.

It’s laughable to think that the New England Patriots once almost moved to Birmingham.

Maybe the Stallions deserve to look for a home that might appreciate them.

Relocation should never be in consideration. We have the potential and the energy to support our team but the league should be held accountable too, they’ve failed in their marketing tactics for each city this offseason. Having Houston host the opener was already grounds for disaster. I will support this league until the end but they have to market like crazy next year especially if they want to add new teams

I think we’d all love to see a bigger marketing investment. I want the league and the Birmingham Stallions to be around for a long time.

Agree. Take the reigning league champions out of their town and move them seems like a bunk move. If you keep moving teams, the league will be an utter joke. It takes time and money to build something from the ground up like they’re trying to do. Other spring leagues be damned. People need to stop dooming just because there aren’t 30k in every stadium. Hell the Colorado Rockies and LA Angels have empty stadiums a lot of the time and they still operate fine. Might be apples to oranges there but the point holds. If a major sports league team is barely getting 20k with the amount of money behind them, then the league will be fine in the long run.
