Shore Fishing Portable ice bag for shore fishing anglers?
Hello Utah anglers,
So I was wondering if any of you carry with you a portable ice bag to put your fish in after you catch them? Something small and compact, not heavy that is easy to carry in case you have to hike to your fishing hole?
The reason I am asking is. Last week when me and my fishing buddy and I caught 50 perch each last week and we just put them on a stringer and threw them in the water to keep wet and fresh.
Well… When we were done and got back to my to truck to start cleaning the fish. I realized that the fish meat was kind of soft and mushy mushy. Making it a bit difficult to filet the fish because it was breaking apart on some the fish. I realized that the water at the reservoir was in the 80’s.
So, I was thinking if there was an ice bag product out there? If the fish were frozen it would freeze the fish and filleting would be much better.
Please share if you have a small portable ice bag system or know where to get one for shore anglers.
Thank you,
The Fishhook

I have a backpack cooler. I fill it with ice packs and drinks in the morning. I keep a trash bag in there. When I leave, the fish get thrown in the bag with the ice packs. It works pretty well for me.

Getting fish on ice is always a good idea, especially in summer when the water is warm. I bought a hard cooler sized just right to sit behind the seat on my kayak after ruining some fish just dragging them in the water too long. Any small cooler would work, depending on how long you want to be out. Some people have recommended the soft collapsible travel coolers or they make some specifically for fish. Looking on amazon the keywords seem to be "fish cooler bag". Just depends on what you need/want and what your budget is.
