š¢ Announcement THANK YOU, VANCOUVER ā $41,378 Raised for Vancouver's Kapwa Strong Fund
Over the past few weeks, r/Vancouver has shown just how powerful a regional Reddit community can be.
When we launched this fundraiser in response to the Lapu Lapu Day Festival tragedy, we wanted to show how much we care. And wow, did the community step up!
Through over 180 donationsāand a generous 1:1 match from Reddit Community Fundsāwe raised $41,378 for the Kapwa Strong Fund.
Again, that money is going directly toward:
- Immediate relief for familiesācovering emergency financial assistance, medical bills, and support for lost income
- Basic necessities like food, temporary housing, and transportation
- Mental health care including trauma-informed counseling, cultural support services, and long-term therapy resources
- Community rebuilding, including healing ceremonies, remembrance events, and programs that foster connection and resilience
To every donor, every share, every upvote, and every kind word: you made this happen.
Huge shoutout to:
- Reddit Community Funds (r/communityfunds), for matching what this sub raised dollar-for-dollar
- GoFundMe (u/gofundme), for providing the platform that makes fundraising smooth and secure
- United Way BC and Filipino BC for stepping up immediately to organize the Kapwa Strong Fund and deliver the support where itās needed most
- The Filipino community and the victims involved in the tragic event, for your strength and graceāwe hope this helps, even a little.
Our hearts are still heavy for the pain felt. But this community showed up. And weāre not done showing up.
If you still want to give to this causeāor know someone who mightā donations can still be made here:

Discussion Thank you to the kind stranger in David Lam Park on Saturday Afternoon
Throwaway account here.
I am a 40 something year old man who was sitting on the park bench in David Lam park on Saturday a was complete mess. My partner is leaving me. I feel broken, lost and alone. I messed up and there is no saving the relationship. I was waiting for her to come out of the bathroom to continue the conversation with her.
You saw me sitting there, looking like a mess, and sat down to see what we going on. Despite saying I was fine, you sat down and rubbed my back and told me whatever was going on, it'll be ok. She came out of the bathroom, so I had to leave right away.
You didn't have to do that. You have never seen or met me before. You showed kindness to somebody who feels he deserves none. If you are here, I want to say, I truly appreciate your act of kindness to a random stranger who is in a lot of pain.
Thank you. You are a good person.

Discussion Thank you for your kindness, stranger!
In the spirit of all those āthank you strangerā posts, I want to give a huge shoutout to the awesome person who stopped to report a hit-and-run they saw happen to my jeep.
I came out one morning to find my jeep damaged after a night parked on the street, and I was pretty devastated that nobody had left a note (so rude). But a couple of days later, I got a call from ICBC saying a witness had come forward, and the driver was found at fault ... which means I donāt have to pay my deductible.
So thank you, kind stranger! š
... and just a note for anyone who doesnāt know, if you ever witness an accident, you can report it online in just a few minutes through ICBC: https://www.icbc.com/claims/report-view/witness-please-call

From this angle it seems like the new architecture is respectfully sheltering the old building.

Discussion Witness for skateboard on car accident on July 5th
Hello, I was hit by a car running a stop sign while on my skateboard on the intersection of Union and Campbell street. A cyclist helped me check my appendages for any damage, but in the heat of the moment, I forgot to get their contact information as a witness. Another fellow who lived on that intersection gave me a cup of water as well.
I'm not sure how useful this will be, but would there be anyone here who witnessed the accident?
Thanks!
