EN - About the Venice entrance fee
Since some of you asked, this is a brief summary of the (in)famous Venice entry fee, it may answer to some of your questions. The town hall is still writing and refining details, so dates or rules may change in the upcoming months. More infos (in Italian): https://live.comune.venezia.it/it/2023/09/venezia-contributo-di-accesso-turisti-giornalieri-si-parte-dalla-primavera-2024-1
- September '23 update:
- In spring 2024 there will be a trial period of 30 days, no dates yet
- Ticket will be flat price €5 on selected days/hours. Expect it on weekends, long weekends and bank holidays peak hours
- Again, if you already pay the tourist tax to Venice municipality because you stay in a hotel, B&b etc, you are completely exempt from this entrance fee, nothing changes for you. The structure will register you - as it is now. The fee is thought to discourage daily visitors
- Some areas will be totally exempt from the fee, such as minor islands
Kick off is scheduled for 16 January 2023.Postponed to 2024The municipality plans to introduce the booking website this autumn- Meanwhile, as an intermediate step, the municipality already promotes booking in advance. It provides discounts on parking, selected museums, and public transport tickets, which has gone up (e.g.: watebuses tickets are 9,5€ if you buy them on the spot; road bus Venice-Airport is 10€).
- Similarly to air tickets, the fee will fluctuate between €3 and €10, based on demand and crowding forecasts. Different entrance hours may get you different prices within the same day. Some hours like late evening may not require any booking whatsoever.
- Cruise ships passengers pay a flat price, not decided yet.
- Passes are unlimited, so access is granted to anybody.
- Sometimes booking is still required, although it's free. The fee is designed to discourage daily travellers in high peak days. If you stay overnight in a REGISTERED structure (hotel, b&b, guesthouse, etc) in Venice municipality (which includes Mestre and other boroughs on the mainland), you won't pay anything because you will already pay the tourist tax.
- Some other free of charge scenarios (not all):
- children under 14;
- if you transit on Tronchetto, P.le Roma, or harbour only
- if you visit friends or relatives who live in Venice (they have to register you)
- Touristic coaches passengers
EDIT: just to be respectful, this is a simple FAQ or guide. The initial aim wasn’t to start a debate if the policy is fair or not. But if we want so, be polite or constructive, at least.

Salve,

Come è possibile ?? Voglio dire come è avvenuto questo fenomeno , immagino non da un giorno all altro , qualche Veneziano che magari può dare qualche insight ? .

Doge Palace/Secret Itineraries Tour
Salve! My husband and I will be visiting Venezia for a couple of days during our honeymoon in a few weeks. As I'm finalizing our plans and getting around to booking tickets (a bit late to the game, I know), I found the Secret Itineraries tour of the Doge Palace. Unfortunately, for the day we want to do it, there are no tickets left for the English tour. My question to you all is, should we book tickets for the tour in Italian, even though neither of us speak it? Or are we better off skipping the tour and getting regular entry to the museum? I tried emailing to see if there was any other way to get on an English tour, but we would have to purchase a minimum of 10 tickets for an "on-demand" tour. Any advice is appreciated, grazie!

Oltre al danno la beffa. Venezia, i borseggiatori denunciano i cittadini: «Fermati e filmati senza autorizzazione». Brugnaro: cambiare la legge. Agostini: nessuno può sostituirsi alla polizia. Poli: è una beffa

Docking in Murano
So, I am flying into Venice, and renting a smaller runabout boat for the day on October 10th in the hopes of doing my own sailing unhurried. I Can't go to San Michele by private boat. San Franscesco Del Deserto seems ambitious for a visitor, and there are shallow areas. Definitely, can't dock in Poveglia. Haha
I was going to go to Murano and had that planned out months ahead of time, and only JUST found out there are very limited docking options. When I rented the boat months ago, Google led me astray, and led me to believe I could park in Fondamenta Venir. It seems that reasonably, the only place I can dock for longer than 30 minutes would be Serenella? But, given that it is the only place, I am concerned about being able to find a spot. I am going in October, but still worry about being able to find a spot if there are rentals docked there for the fall. I did see Marina Sant'elena. I am looking into that, but I would need to provide all the registration paperwork for the boat, I will have to see if the renter would let me have these docs...
Im just kind of discouraged, I guess. I saw a lot of boat rental options when I was booking though. I just wonder how people handle bathrooms and trying to find places to dock. I did get the insurance, so I can cancel it. But I was so excited for this.
Update: looking into Certosa as an option. Even if there isnt much there. At least theres a restroom.

October
Hi all.
My wife and I are visiting for the first time in 1st October staying at the Rosa Salva hotel for 3 nights.
We've no itinerary and I'm better if I have some idea what we're doing. I've budgeted £600 for spending while we're there. Any recommendations for things to see, and places to eat that aren't tourist traps would be very gratefully received.
Thanks.

How much money to budget for college student in Venice?
My son will be spending 12 weeks studying in Venice. His main housing in Venice and his course tuition have already been paid for in advance.
How much per week would be enough to eat well, go out to bars with friends, take weekend trips to other parts of Europe, buy basic necessities, do a little shopping (not luxury goods)?
He says for example that his friends are going to Rome for a weekend and that transportation and lodging will be a few hundred euros.
We want him to learn to budget for himself, but we also want him to enjoy the time there.

Looking for accommodation in Venice (Ca’ Foscari master’s student)
Hi everyone,
I’ll be starting my master’s program at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice this September, and I’m currently looking for student accommodation. I already applied for ESU Venezia housing, but the rankings haven’t been published yet. Since my classes begin on September 15, I’m a bit concerned about the timing.
Does anyone know when the ESU provisional/final rankings will be published?
Also, I’ve heard about Camplus Santa Marta accommodation. Can we apply directly to Camplus, or is it somehow connected to ESU Venezia?
Any advice from students who have been through this would be super helpful!
Thanks in advance 🙏

What’s Venice like in January?
I’ll be there with my husband at the end of January for 5 days. How are the crowds? Is there anything happening at that time?
Last time we were there, it was December of 2022. Thanks!
Aiuto a mestre

Recommendations for nightlife in Venice?
Recommendations for nightlife in Venice?
We're a group of guys and girls from Germany and Austria planning to do a two week long vacation with friends in Italy, spending time in Milan, Florence, Bologna and Venice.
Have the sightseeing part down and planned but was wondering if you have any recommendations for places to go to experience the city's nightlife.
Ideally looking for 3 types of locations:
places to go out and eat and drink wine during the evening as a group;
cozy bars and/or pubs for drinks;
clubs or nightclubs that are not too rowdy or don't have suspect visitors, just want to have drinks and dance our asses off on the floor.
Any help welcome, have a nice day
