Tech Support How does video file size work?

I know many things go file size (length, quality, type of file, etc) but I’m trying to wrap my head around how a 60 gb video I shot on my iPhone is somehow only 891 mb on my pc. I uploaded about 30 minutes of 4K 60fps footage that I shot on my iPhone to my iCloud and when I downloaded that same footage to my pc, it said the file size was only 891 mb. How is that possible? The quality looks to be the exact same so I’m not complaining that I have a much smaller file but I’m just not understanding how

Workflow 8mm Transfer - Clean Up with Topaz and Movavi

I recently had around 3 hours worth of 60-year-old 8mm film converted to digital. The raw conversions were pretty rough.

A month ago, I'd never done anything involving video editing but wanted to see what technology could do to clean up the videos. I experimented with trial versions of several programs and settled on Topaz 7.0 and Monavi Video Editor 2025.

The results were frankly amazing, albeit, requiring several steps.

  1. Processing the 8mm digital transfer with Topaz Starlight Mini.
  2. Processing the Starlight Mini output a second time with Topaz, changing frame rate, converting to HDR and using Motion De-blur.
  3. Using Monavi to apply exposure correction, make cuts and reassembling fragments into a final video.

I'll try to add screenshot examples in comments.\

NOTE: all processing was done locally on my home PC (7950X/4090). The local Starlight Mini processing took 12-13 hours for a 20-minute source video.

Tech Support Dynamic Link Killing My Render Times (Premiere + After Effects Templates)

Hello! I need some advice.

I’m editing a 12-minute explainer video in Premiere Pro.

The setup: • Green Screen footage • Downloaded graphic templates from Envato (MOGRT files made in After Effects)

At first, I edited on a MacBook Pro M1 (512GB SSD, 16GB RAM), but I kept getting alerts that application memory was running out.

I thought it was just my machine, so I upgraded this weekend to a MacBook Pro M4 (1TB SSD, 24GB RAM). Editing is much smoother now, but the problem shows up during rendering—it takes forever, both in Premiere and Media Encoder.

That’s when I realized the real culprit: Dynamic Link between the AE templates and Premiere.

Has anyone here encountered the same issue? Do I really need to “Render and Replace” all AE materials? Or would it help if I split the project into smaller parts and stitch them together? The hassle is we’re still in the “review” stage 😞

This is my first heavy Premiere project, so I’d really appreciate any advice from the group. 🙏

Workflow Built a simple file transcription automation - use it for free

Hey everyone,

I was looking for a cheap way to transcribe audio files without paying for an expensive ChatGPT subscription or other pricey services. After some experimenting, I ended up building a simple n8n workflow that does the job for under $10/month.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Drop your audio file into a Google Drive folder called input.
  2. Hit Execute Workflow in n8n.
  3. The file gets downloaded and sent to OpenAI (you’ll need your own API key).
  4. The transcript comes back as a Google Docs file in the output folder.

In this quick recording, I show you how it works: https://screen.studio/share/HHpZtway
Here is the workflow JSON. Use it for free:

If anyone wants to try it or needs details, just let me know.

Tech Support How should I deal with multiple footage sources that a recorded in different fps?

I am making a gaming video but don't know how I should approach the issue of my face cam being 25 fps and the gameplay being 60 fps. Should I edit the video project in the higher fps or the lower fps or should I choose an fps in the middle of the two like 48 fps?

How did they do that? Making it look like it’s dark outside with footage filmed inside a car

Hi, everyone! Yesterday we filmed a video inside of a limo, it’s supposed to be a party. But the thing is suddenly it became very sunny outside so it’s very visible that 1) the car is not moving at all; 2) it’s actually daytime outside (according to the script it’s supposed to be a night party). The party is filmed inside the limo with the windows being on both sides of the shot most of the time.

Anyways, does anyone know how we can fix that in post? Maybe just lower the exposure outside the car? I can work in Davinci Resolve and After Effects.

Tech Support How to "Flatten" and distort an image so it looks like it is on a monitor.

Kind of a wordy title, but I want to make a frame of my video look like it is on the computer screen of the video of the guy punching the the screen while playing the scary maze. I can't add pictures here, but is kind of diagonal and not front facing the camera, so I want to know how to distort the image to fit it (sorry for any incorrect english).
Thanks in advance!

How did they do that? How do I recreate this iMessage-style audio bar effect ?

I saw this video where the audio looks like a voice message bubble, and it moves from right to left while a background video plays.

Here’s the clip: [https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNDxD2kyZAx/?igsh=MXQyNWlzbG05OWVyaw==]

I want to make the exact same style for my own singing audio — background video + moving voice message effect.

Could someone explain step-by-step how this was made in CapCut or VN (or if I need another app)?

Workflow How do you manage your editing workflow effectively?

I’ve been curious about how different editors structure their workflow. For an edit like a short reel, how much time do you usually spend from the first import to final export? Do you follow a set process or do you go with the flow depending on the project?

How did they do that? How to enhance the quality of iPhone video

I’m new to the whole filming, editing and content creation side of things and I apologize if this is not the right place for this. I’ve been trying to make videos that have quality/clarity like these videos below.

https://www.instagram.com/share/BAISW8uUGG

https://www.instagram.com/share/_6FLI_DJp

I cannot tell if these videos are achievable on iPhone as I’ve attempted but I feel like mine don’t come close, unless of course these look more likely filmed on an actual camera.

I’ve tried doing some research and have lately been filming using ProRes 4k 30fps as was mentioned in the dozen videos I watched. How much back end editing would need to be done to get that clarity, or does it really come down to solely the equipment used to film in this case. I haven’t attempted it yet as I just saw it before typing this, but I guess Blackmagic (I think that’s what it’s called) camera app is helpful? Any other suggestions would be really appreciated. I just want to put out nice quality videos.

Tech Support Long render times on laptop

Ive posted this elsewhere but trying to reach as many as can for help. 🙏 thanks in advanced.

Ok so first of all I made this post about 20-25 days ago. Ive been super busy and using my desktop for most things so I did reply on there today but decided to make a new post just in case.

My issue is I have an i7-13700hx, with a 4080 laptop gpu and 32gigs ddr5 ram in an MSI Vector gp68 he 13v laptop.

When testing renders I'm rendering a 2 hour video with 4k source media down to 1080p on h264. On desktop takes 38 minutes. Laptop is like at 0.9x speed of render so the render time is like a couple minutes longer than the video is...

Ive been trying to figure it out.

Some suggested its thermal throttling but today i finally did some testing with hwinfo and msi after burner and its sitting abiut 20°c cooler (between 62°c and 68°c) than the thermal throttle temps, which according to internet is abiut 87°c.

Ive got it on HW encoding with Nvidia cuda. Rendering on an nvme m.2 internal. Msi settings are set to maximum performance.

Need help please idk whata going on.

(Also for reference my desktop has an 11th gen i7 with 32 gigs ddr4 ram and m.2 nvme.)

Edit: forgot to add this here: My older laptop has an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H. 16gb ddr4, and 2tb ssd with an rtx 3070. It renders this same video in about ~55 minutes.

Hiring Removing green vignette effect, $50/hr

Hello,

I’m facing an issue with footage I shot using my DJI Mavic 3 Pro.
All the material recorded with the Hasselblad camera has a strong green vignetting effect. This affects both photos and videos. I assume it might be related to DJI’s software or the camera itself, but I haven’t been able to figure it out yet.

I already tried removing lens correction, but it didn’t help.
At this point I’m struggling to remove the green tint from the videos. The center of the frame looks normal, but the edges have an unnatural green cast.

I’m looking for someone who can correct the colors and make the footage look natural again—or at least significantly improve it.

I can pay for one hour of work (50$) for the person who can fix the colors in the video and export in 9:16 with the ship being in the video centre with good instagram ready quality.

The footage was shot in D-Log M, 4K, 25fps. Video is 1min 21 sec long.

Dm me if interested. Thank you in advance!

Tech Support Cutting AVI into four parts seems to have lost footage

I have a 1h 12m 19s AVI file that I recorded / captured from my Canon MD101 back in 2008. The file is 12.9 GB.

I have used Avidemux to cut it into quarters, as 12.9 GB is quite a large file.

However, the four new files total 1h 12m 13s.

I do not believe there are any keyframes to worry about, so I am a bit confused.

Any ideas?

If it helps, here is the data from MediaInfo of the original file, and one of the cut files:

Tech Support What is this artifact?

https://imgur.com/a/Bk0FJ5e

I am new to video and was wondering what this artifact was... as the person walked from left to right, I observed the top of her head looked lighter, exactly where the bright (but not clipped) sky was. Interestingly, I would expect this artifact to be more visible on the RIGHT side of her head (since she was walking right), but it was more visible on the LEFT side of her head.

Tech Support Audio drifts

Hi, so im trying to simply trim a video down and cut parts i don't want. However the audio slowly drifts apart from the video as it goes on.

It's about 2hrs of footage, video plays fine in vlc but when I add it to my editing software it slowly starts drifting. The audio is not recored separately. It's just one file. Im using DaVinci Resolve. Or at least trying to
