Mod Stuff 📸August Photo Contest Announcement📸

Powered by Reddit Community Funds

Hello Vintage Digital Camera Fans!

August is here, so that means it's time for a new photo contest. Read the Short Rules to get started, and make sure you read the Complete Rules for all the details, so you can enter to win a vintage digital camera.

July Winners: The Cityscape contest gave us Slow Catching Fireworks by u/Ambitious_Arm3873 and Street View by u/HazyOptics ! They each won a Pentax Optio P70 from 2009. It's a perfect Every Day Carry camera with a nice zoom range and stylish body design. Go check out their entries and give them some love.

On to the August 2025 Photo Contest! This time around, we've got the Canon PowerShot A590 as the prize. This camera is from 2008 and sports 8 Megapixels. It shoots in various Auto and Scene modes, as well as Manual. It's got that Canon CCD color science, and a zoom range of 35-140mm (equiv.). I've got a soft spot for this camera, myself, as it was my first "real" digital camera after I moved on from film in 2009. I have managed to procure two for this month's prize, courtesy of Reddit Community Funds.

August Prize

Running from August 1 to August 24, you'll be able to win one of these cameras with various accessories. Read the Short Rules to get started, and make sure you read the Complete Rules for all the details.

Countryside Contest

This month's topic is "Countryside." Last month, we focused on The Big City. Now, it's time to slow things down and stroll through more Rural Parts. Is there an idyllic path you want to share? A bustling farm that catches your attention? How about a sun-dappled forest? Now is the month to share. For Countryside, the photo may be Straight Out of Camera or it may be Edited. Photos that focus on rural locations is the point of this month's topic. Any Edited or Straight Out of Camera photo is valid. Any image submitted in good faith, and in the spirit of the contest, is valid. Don't forget to read the complete rules for details.

Preview the upcoming contest topics in the Wiki.

Good Luck!

Can you believe we're halfway through 2025? When I was a kid, I remember calculating that "one day, in the year 2000, I'm going to be 22 years old!" Time flies..! But the old stuff is new again, and that's a driving force of this Community: break out those old, forgotten digital cameras and use them again; Pick up this hobby for the first time if you didn't experience it back in the day. All are welcome! I think we've fostered a nice community here as we've reached 44,708 members as of this post. Let's keep it friendly as we keep it growing. Also a reminder: If you'd like to help out the newbies with their frequently asked questions, head over to our Sister Sub r/digicam and lend your expertise. Lastly, check out r/DigitalCamera for an alternative to this Community (less rules and newer cameras allowed, it seems) and help them grow.

And as for this month's contest, I hope you enter, and good luck! 📸

Hey, just a question - why are only US, UK, Canada and Australia allowed to participate in these contests?

Thanks for asking. When Reddit presented the contract to me last year, there were several stipulations I had to agree to. One of them was this limitation on locations. If we continue the contest next year, I hope they can expand it to more places. 🍀
