Taking a drone to Iceland is absolutely worth it!
Glacier river in Iceland shoot in July 2025.

Drones can fuck off, stop being selfish.

I would think that an Icelander who works for an Icelandic company, posting videos they took of Icelandic nature, might be a little more well-versed on the ethics of drones than what seems to be a habitually unhappy redditor who habitually looks down their nose at others. Seriously dude, touch grass and smoke a joint or some shit
Edit: aww, it's angry

I don’t see what’s selfish if there’s no one else around, agreed?

It’s detrimental to animals as well. Drones are selfish trash.

You're fishing for things to complain about here. The altitude of this video is high enough that no person or animal would notice the drone.
Let's be real for a minute. I'm fully aware of just how shitty, inconsiderate, selfish, and disruptive some people are - especially with drones. I get it. I've reported illegal flyers in US national parks and forest service rec areas before.
However, for every drone flyer who breaks rules they never even bothered to learn (pretty awful, IMO), there are others who do their research, get their local licenses, follow safety laws, and have basic etiquette about avoiding people and animals, preventing noticeable noise pollution, etc.
I hate when the local crotch rocket motorcyclists throttle up and down the street I live on at 2 AM. It's selfish, inconsiderate, anti-social, and uncivil. However, that doesn't mean all motorcyclists are selfish assholes.
I'm a photographer and I do some (but not much) drone photography. I'm extremely hard-line about laws and etiquette when it comes to drone usage, because the selfish pricks out there ruin it for everyone by making folks think drone flying is inherently selfish.
Have some patience. Don't generalize. The OP here is filming an area that can't be accessed on foot, which means there aren't people or animals below. It's a glacial melt water flow area - I know because I scouted similar areas for drone photography (didn't have time for a flight, though). This is some really cool imagery, and it isn't hurting or bothering anyone.
As long as OP had a license and permission to fly, we're good here.

Well I can see there’s no point in discussion if I’m just going to get downvoted and you’re this much of an absolutist.

Some people make a hobby out of getting irritated by specific things. This one is clearly into hating on drones.
Really beautiful shots! I was hoping to get some similar footage, but didn't have time - honestly, I only took one flight in almost two weeks when I was there. I'm guessing Southern coast for this glacial runoff - do you mind sharing which area, and did you have to get local permission?
I took some sunrise footage from over the water at Vestrahorn - had to get permission and show my license to the folks at the camping/entry permit desk, but it was a good time.

Happy to share! This is taken at Skeiðará river. This is public land so we did not need permission from a landowner but we always make sure to have full permission and a drone permit from Samgöngustofa when fiyling and filming ;)

Tourists telling Icelanders what they can and can't do in their own country are selfish trash. Don't come back.

Why is a rental company randomly posting these 😂

We're just lucky to have a lot of cool stuff like this laying around. Why not share it? :)

I don’t wanna be a dick but man I don’t get it. Visual/noise pollution for others and you’re only seeing these views through a camera which just… isn’t special to me?

What are you disappointed in? You asked if people like the photo and the response is “eh”

u/PokeyDiesFirst 2d ago
I'm mostly disappointed in tourists who feel they have the wherewithal to tell native Icelanders what they can and can't do in their own country.

u/Evolution1313 3d ago
It’s fine? But also not anything special? Like I could be looking at a screensaver. The joy would be in BEING there
5
u/animatedhockeyfan 3d ago
The joy for you. Photographers and drone hobbyists get joy from that and more.

Taking mid generic landscapes? Whatever floats your boat I guess

Please share your hobbies so strangers on the internet can be rude to you for enjoying them.

Imagine you go to a beautiful park to enjoy the scenery. Now imagine loud annoying robots fucking up the view. Now imagine pretending it’s art 🫣

This is an epic takedown and I wish I didn’t have to delete it Without the edit it would have been fine.

It ruins the experience for everyone. Those that are seen using them push others to use them. It’s a real vibe killer.

Most places people fly are no where near tourists. Chill

I’m chill. Just spent two weeks on the ring road. Saw dozens of them. One guy was chasing puffins in the south. Real shithead.

Do you need any permit?
1
u/WretchedKat 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yes! You need a specific drone license to fly in Iceland. It's cheap and easy to get, you just need to take a quick (1-2 hour) course online at your own pace. You'll need to utilize your search engine's translate feature to navigate the website, and then you'll need to print out your license and keep it on you when flying.
The Icelandic Transport Authority has your needs covered.

Not all areas in Iceland are drone prohibited though. I just fight them when they're in areas where they aren't supposeto be. This video is nice but was it legitimately taken? I don't know. There are maps though.

Very cool, I had dreamed of getting a shot like this when I was there but never really figured out where to shoot from.

Not for the rest of us imo
