If Trump was an FBI informant, why doesn't he release all the intel he gathered?

Also informants are usually involved in the crimes they are telling about.

MAGA has declared jihad on Big Tech
If I was a tech CEO, being on the right side of history and going all in for Democrats knowing you're gonna pay more taxes is a billion time preferable than being shot on the street by those led by smarter Trump-like figures down the road.
Money's no good when you're dead.
39
u/drtywater 2d ago
MAGA's alliance with tech was always doomed to fail. I think Dem leadership needs to outcast them as well. Their turn over to MAGA just because they got a small bit of reasonable regulation and scrutiny is awful.

Heck, yesterday the NRA pushed back with us.

They are silently hoping he'll be neutered next year. After all, the performative BS is wasting everyone's time and you can't win fighting the culture war forever.

26
u/Tipsyfishes Washington: Trans Rights are Human Rights! 2d ago
Was. Yes.
There is a weird sect of the right, the so called "Techo-right" which includes a lot of the Crypto folk, AI folk, Musk etc. And they are one of the big reasons, if not thee reason that Vance was picked as VP. Vance is a techno-right pick.
However, that alliance is extremely fragile. Especially with the Musk-Trump blowout.
8
u/DeNomoloss North Carolina 2d ago
Big tech has no constituency. The Venn diagram of people who admire Peter Theil and people who actually make significant money off crypto is a circle, and a small one at that. They just get outsized attention due to their wealth.
Even in tech, the people below the c-suite are mostly just trying to make stuff work better. They’re not trying to live forever as space vampires.
18
39
u/Alphard428 2d ago
When a clear majority of Americans believe that AI will cause too many job losses, I'm not sure "big tech supports Democrats" would be anything close to positive for our side.
I would rather have them just waste time fighting each other.
26
u/IamGumpOtaku World Blerd Champine 2d ago
Not that I disagree, but people are beginning to see the kinks in the armor. AI ain't replacing anything if it continues to do shitty work. The money spent on AI could be better spent on other things, like hiring people and keeping them happy.
19
u/Alphard428 2d ago
Yeah, I have to use AI tools at work and it's more of a source of frustration than anything. So I also don't think we'll see the large transformation they're hyping up.
But vibes matter. And for the foreseeable future big tech will still be spending tons on AI instead of people, so whoever they align themselves with could be perceived as supporting that.

"Nearly half of the conference’s panels were explicitly focused on tech. Tech atrophying the brains of their children in school [...]
I think Dems should take ownership of this issue. People are starting to view phone use as a massive mental health and educational problem. A crusade against "brainrot culture" would be overwhelmingly popular.
Smartphone addiction is a threat to public health, because the oligarchs have designed it so.

Like most of corporate America earlier this year, they made a bet in their marketing that Trump winning was a harbinger of the culture, forgetting how we go “wait, I actually hate him” a few months after every election. They’re overcorrecting from their prior pandering to social movements.
This should probably show you how good they actually are as anything but money machines.

18
u/Electronic_Bad_5883 Maryland 2d ago
Well... it really hasn't, TBH. The right just wants that to be true, but the fact is that their victory was a fluke and the overall culture has not suddenly become far-right. There's so much out there proving that progressive ideals still sell and that regressive ideas don't. There's already so much pushback against Trump and his goons.

u/dishonourableaccount Maryland - MD-8 3d ago
A service from Cincinnati to Dayton to Columbus to Cleveland would make so much sense. Much of the track is already exists, and if it's not up to passenger travel speeds then the ROW could be upgraded.
Imagine it as a business thing. There's a Cincy-Cleveland NFL rivalry right? Imagine easy access to both stadiums from across the state. Imagine Ohio State games with that draw.
12
u/kerryfinchelhillary OH-11 3d ago
I know, right? Browns/Bengals and Guardians/Reds games would sell out if there was a train. And like you said, imagine how many people from all over Ohio would go to Columbus for Buckeyes games if there was a train instead of a few crappy buses.
15
u/dishonourableaccount Maryland - MD-8 3d ago
The key thing is it needs to be done right, with an actual commitment to running frequent service. Like 6-10 trains per day and 2 committed game day trains that arrive 1 hour before kickoff and leave ~2 hours after the average length of a game.
Here in Maryland the 2 Baltimore stadiums and most of the downtown attractions are a less than 20 minute walk from Camden station. But CSX throttles any chance at a reasonable timetable, so we're limited to rush hour only trains and nothing on weekends for that line. It's ridiculous that they can't even commit to a dedicated Orioles and Ravens game day service.
16
u/GardenStateOfMind95 Proud Keeper of the Great Falls 3d ago
That, all by itself, would probably help your statewide economy, greatly, in the longer term, just by expanding options to certain more "isolated" parts of each of the main metro areas there 🚞 🚃

u/table_fireplace 2d ago
I'll get off this soapbox someday, but in politics, the GOP's 'masculinity' is just misogyny.
Tell me which GOP leader is stereotypically masculine. Right, it's none of them. Except in their burning hatred for women. And thankfully, we're never going to emulate that. But sadly, it's much harder to run against than it should be.
19
u/SmoreOfBabylon Blorth Blarolina, c'mon and raise up 2d ago
The types who drone on about masculinity the most tend to be those who are so insecure about theirs that they’d rather tear down women to build themselves up rather than actually work on being decent men.

So far the only thing Trump is really able to do is stuff that he directly has control over. But it's all petty shit that doesn't make any actual change. Like everything from sending troops into cities to changing the name of Department of Defense is just pathetic and shows how powerless he really is.
43
u/Birkin2Boogaloo 2d ago
I just want to point out that Trump absolutely did not write that Chicago post that has people freaking out. That man has never said "X bout to Y" in his entire life
32
u/diamond New Mexico 2d ago
You're probably right, but it really doesn't matter who wrote it.
What matters is that if Trump could send in the troops to occupy Chicago he would have done it by now. Instead he talks, he threatens, he memes, and then he mumbles about maybe sending them to New Orleans instead (because Louisiana has a Republican governor who will comply and Illinois doesn't).
It's just so tiresome and predictable at this point.

With regard to booking appointments online for a COVID-19 vaccination: You will be asked to review paperwork that gives details about the vaccine.
In my experience, the documents provided online by Walgreens make reference to the "2024-2025" vaccine, not the one you need, which is the "2025-2026" vaccine.
I have made appointments twice for my family. The one I scheduled for today was cancelled because that Walgreens location had not yet received the shipment of COVID-19 vaccine it had expected. (Grrrr.)
I fully cancelled that appointment (we typically get the annual flu and COVID-19 vaccinations in the same sitting) and set up a new one at a different Walgreens location.
Both times, I called the pharmacies at those Walgreens locations to confirm that they would in fact have the 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccine, despite what the paperwork said, and both said "yes".
Point being: When you read the background paperwork on the COVID-19 vaccine--and you will have to at least scan it, because you will be forced to open it and check a box that affirms that you read it--pay attention to the date span given for that vax.
If it says "2024-2025", it's best to call that specific pharmacy, get through to an actual, live person, and confirm that they have the 2025-2026 formulation in stock. When you do this, remember to take down the name of the pharmacist, just in case.
25
u/diamond New Mexico 3d ago
Also, you might have better luck with CVS. Walgreens has been circling the bowl for a while now; I'm honestly amazed they're still in business at all.
16
u/OneBigPieceOfPizza Georgia 3d ago
CVS gave me no trouble scheduling appointments last year. I hope it’s not different now. I don’t plan on getting COVID again
14
19
u/ProudPatriot07 South Carolina- Rural Young Democrat 3d ago
I just got my last booster in February before attending a conference. I got mine at Costco, but I decided to check my local Costco's site today and it won't let me schedule a vaccine appointment online.
I have read that some states now require a provider to prescribe it, so I guess if that's the case I will have to get my company's NP to do it.
Sad that the anti vax rhetoric is making it harder for those of us who want to stay healthy. If you don't want to get a COVID shot, don't, but why do they make it hard for others?
6
u/westseagastrodon Illinois 2d ago edited 2d ago
Huh. I booked mine online at Walgreens earlier today and didn't have to look at any special drug information. Maybe they'll give it to me when I show up for the appointment, though?
Or maybe Illinois locations have different policies than your state, IDK.
3
u/SGSTHB 2d ago
Both could be true. This is paperwork you have to see and sign off on as having read, presumably for legal reasons.
FWIW, I booked the first appointment over the border in an adjacent state, and booked the new appointment at the place my family normally goes for vaxxes in my home state. Both Walgreens required me to provide the same information and sign off on the same paperwork, but some papers within the two were styled differently.

Trump wants to be a wartime president badly. I think he expected the DC deployment to do the trick, but thankfully. it doesn’t look like what he was hoping for (actual urban combat). So I guess he’s going to fuck around with Venezuela some.
I feel like a lot of the “no forever wars” Trump supporters were also “end the drug war” supporters too.
Someone should just introduce him to Tropico 7 once it’s released.
46
u/redpoemage Ohio 3d ago
He seems to want to be a wartime president without the whole actual war part. He could have transitioned the Iran bombings into a bigger conflict, but it seems like he and/or his advisors realize his political capital has limits.

u/DeNomoloss North Carolina 3d ago
I think he’d also settle for being photographed on a dock in Miami standing with a pile of bricks of coke they claim they seized from Venezuelan ships, which would still end up looking goofy.

For VA-11th how much of an over performance we expecting if any? It was 66% in 2024. I'm not sure if its possible to perform better but will be curious to see.
16
u/Alexcat66 WI-7 (AD-30, SD-10) 2d ago
Given what we’ve been doing in special elections this year, I expect an outperformance, but probably not insanely large like some of the ones we’ve had. This seat is relatively inelastic (Harris 65-31 last year, Biden 69-28 in 2020) although it does have a sizable Hispanic and Asian population (15% for the former, 22% for the latter) and turnout in EV was Pretty poor as of the most recent update. The timing of the election being ~2 months before the big VA elections for governor, AG, Lt Gov and HODs may end up playing against us here to as those bigger elections may be drowning out this one.
I’m hoping for a large outperformance to show what type of statewide defeat awaits Republicans in 2 months (preferably combined with ok turnout in the 25-30% range like many of the specials this year), but getting turnout that high is probably a bit of a stretch unless ED turnout is pretty high atp.

Not sure for the rest of ya, but been a weird week for me. So I figured today’s song should be one that is upbeat and perfect for a road trip. Besides, this album is pretty darn perfect.

It's Australian football, but is there anything more painful than watching your team lose an elimination final (play off) by ONE POINT. Losing with 9 seconds to go. At our home stadium. With 60,000 fans. And against a team who'd never, ever played in a play off before this year.
If I don't laugh, I'll cry. (Again).

A bit different, but I follow college soccer and can’t imagine how it must’ve felt for the home crowds to beat three top 10 teams in back-to-back-to-back games at their home stadiums as an unranked team in the NCAA tournament. We won the whole thing, so at least there was solace for them in that.

It's been a bad weekend all around. Everyone that I wanted to win lost. I'll always support an interstate team first.

Moving in on the football train today to say USF has been KILLING it lately

On the same thread, CFB is the only sport where a week after you lose to an FCS team, you beat a preseason-ranked Big 12 team.

Did another FCS team win?

Army lost to Tarleton State last weekend then beat Kansas State today.
Also for FCS upsets, Bryant and LIU upset UMass and Eastern Michigan respectively.

The fact that Rand Paul is tearing into JD like this I think serves as evidence that if trump doesn't finish his term for any reason, that Vance will not have any respect from the GOP and won't be able to get anything done. In response to people everywhere who says Vance will be just as bad.

Well, it's not like Trump is getting a lot done legislatively. The bar is pretty low here.

After a good... maybe 3 years? of service, my cheap Roku TV is kinda gnawing on the dust, hasn't quite taken a bite yet. Damn thing will not stay connected to WiFi for more than a few minutes. But that's how it goes, I guess. I buy a cheap TV, and it shits the bed after a couple years.
Despite my TV being a POS, I do vastly prefer the Roku OS, but alas, it seems nobody makes Roku TV's anymore. Most brands like Sony and TCL have gone to Google TV (which I don't like) or proprietary software like Samsung and LG.
As someone nipple-deep in the Apple ecosystem, I wish they would just hurry up and make their own TV or partner with an established brand instead of swearing by boxes.

I mean, it's hard to beat an AppleTV box. Then you don't have to hook up your TV to the Internet and be served constant ads through the interface.

There's no money in TV hardware these days. TV manufacturers are advertising companies now.

I'm pretty content with the TV I'm having. It's at least 15 years old - I got it when we cleaned out my grandmothers apartment when she went into a nursing home a few years ago. I connected it with a FireTV Stick or via HDMI with my Laptop. I fail to see a reason to do anything more complicated than that.

You could just buy a Roku device. They’re stupid cheap like $20-30 and work on any TV.
Never been a fan of buying those TV combos. That goes all the way back to the TV/VCR days. One will crap out eventually and then you’re out two things.

Yep, When I was a kid I had a TV/VCR combo in my bedroom. If I remember correctly, that VCR worked a grand total of once before it started chewing up every tape I put in it.

I've been out of touch with the news for a few days. Did you all hear about this or is it flying under the radar with all the other chaos that's going on? https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/us-special-forces-killed-north-korean-civilians-in-botched-2019-mission-nyt-says-2025-09-05/

ICE raided a Hyundai plant and arrested 475 people, mostly Korean nationals. Not sure how I feel about this.
