Commentary / Discussion / Question Will the WRC lose its European Fans?

Hey everyone,

since the CER isn't part of the WRC next year and Wales isn't part of it either, do you guys think that the interest in WRC will slowly fade in the heart of Europe?

For me it seems like the FIA is trying to reach other markets like the arabic regions and potentially the US and slowly start to forget the countries that made rallying popular worldwide (excluding Finland, Sweden etc.)

What do you guys think?

PS: I saw some news that Germany (together with Luxemburg and Belgium) is trying to bring back the Rally Deutschland in the upcoming years. Tbh I highly doubt that, simply because of the politics and the economic difficulties that Racing is facing in Germany.

CER is being replaced by Croatia, another European event.

  • CER is hardly a mainstay on the calendar, and is unpopular among fans as is, whereas Croatia is a lot more liked.

Not disagreeing, genuinely asking - what makes CER unpopular?

Our vacation to Prague and Vienna this fall is tied around seeing a couple days of CER, just curious what’s unliked about it.

Thanks in advance.

Too much liaison km to go to all three countries in the previous two years, unnecessary two SSS on Thursday in 2023 (one being in Prague), and the roads are not that spectacular. Not much flow, many junctions.

Complete downgrade to the old Rally Germany held in the west of the country in Trier.

i dont think its that its a bad event. its just not better in any way than croatia or germany.

croatia quickly became a beloved new event with great roads and crazy conditions with consistently great and dramatic rallies. germany was definitely a modern era classic with with the vineyards and the panzerplatte. probably the most iconic non-historic event.

cer kind of just felt flat compared to the two comparables. not bad but kind of in a "just a rally" category to me at least.
