Commentary / Discussion / Question Aren’t Rally1 Cars Already Simple Enough in Terms of Aero?

With all the recent rumors about the 2027 regulations and the top category having simpler aero rules, along with a performance level closer to Rally2 cars, I started thinking: Rally1 cars already have a pretty simple aerodynamic package compared to the old WRC+ era.

Apart from the huge rear wings, there are no front dive planes, no small fins and aero pieces on the sides, no diffusers, no wide doors designed to push front wheel wake outward, and no wheel arch openings.

So, what do you guys think?

In my opinion, the aero is already quite basic for the top category. If the goal is to reduce costs, I believe there are better ways to achieve that ( I can't think of any right now :) ) rather than just simplifying the aero even further.

Commentary / Discussion / Question Which drivers would you like to see in a Rally1 car in the near future?

There is currently a wide range of drivers relegated to the WRC2 support category that arguably should've been given a chance in a Rally1 by now, but haven't been able to make their top-class debut for a variety of reasons. Which drivers would you like to see making their Rally1 debut in the future?

My top pick is Emil Lindholm. The fact that Emil won the WRC2 championship three years ago and still hasn't been given a shot in a Rally1 car is absurd to me. His last few years in WRC2 have been hit or miss, but in his defense, he spent all of last year and part of 2023 in a ridiculously uncompetitive Hyundai Rally2 in hopes of a Hyundai seat that ultimately never came. As a former WRC2 champion, he is the most obvious candidate for a driver who clearly deserves a chance in a Rally1, but still hasn't received one.

I would also like to see Robert Virves, Yohan Rossel, and Nikolay Gryazin get a shot. All three have earned it, in my opinion. Who are your picks?

Commentary / Discussion / Question is it worth to watch WRC locally at Concepcion, Chile? is it safe?

Hey everyone, I’m planning to watch the WRC in person next month in Concepción, Chile. It’s a big trip for me since it takes about 21 hours to get there from San Francisco. Do you think it’s worth experiencing live? Also, how safe is it to stay in Concepción? I’ve read a few articles mentioning theft in some Chilean cities, so I’d love to hear any advice or tips from people who’ve been there. Thanks!

Commentary / Discussion / Question I don't quite understand the fuss about the new regs for 27, they remind me of the Hypercar regs.

the new regs for next year does remind me a lot of the Hypercar regs, the manufacturers get ALOT of freedom on the car type, like SUV, hatchback etc. they also get freedom of choice on wether they want a combustion engine, hybrid engine or a full on Electric engine. this also cuts down price for manufacturers by about 50% if I remember correctly, this has to be able to attract more car manufacturers and help to see a lot more Privateers. and the WRX will be able to cross over to WRC(kind of what IMSA and WEC is doing), giving us chances to see Volkswagen and Subaru return with WRX/WRC cross over cars. I do understand that the cars will use a Rally2 engine as its base, but the cars will have more areo and still be faster, it also closes the gap between Rally 1 and rally 2, making the transition for rookies easier, thoughts?

Commentary / Discussion / Question Advice for taking my 80yo dad to his first WRC rally

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to take my 80-year-old father to the Central European Rally this year. It’s been his dream to see a rally live, and now I finally have the chance to bring him. Neither of us has been to one before.

What tickets would you recommend, and which stages/days are the best for a first-time experience? I’d like to avoid huge crowds if possible, and I’ll bring a camping chair so he can sit comfortably (due to knee problems he can’t stand for too long anymore). Ideally, we’d love a spot with great action but also easy access and not too much hassle, but we don’t mind walking or hiking a bit if the view is worth it.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Throwback / Historic Copyrighted videos, who to ask?

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to feather the legendary wrc ford focus from 1999 on my YouTube channel. Ill be seeing the real car in person soon and thought it would be cool to show some cinematic footage of the car but am also looking to source some clips of the car from the past. I’m worried about copyright and am just wondering if anyone would know the best place to source any videos or who to ask for permission. Thanks :)
