Throwback / Historic What was the last RWD car to win a WRC round?

Post image

It’s pretty well known that the Lancia 037 was the last RWD car to win a WRC championship title, but what was the last one to win a championship round?

I think it might be the Ford Sierra Cosworth in the hands of Didier Auriel and Bernard Occelli at the 1988 Tour de Corse - struggling to think of much else.

Also worth noting that this was a tarmac round - do wonder what the last RWD car to win a WRC round on gravel was, too.

Throwback / Historic Marcus Grönholm, Richard Burns, Petter Solberg or Markko Märtin?

Who was actually the better, most complete rally driver?

By just looking at their records, it`s easy to say Marcus. But i think these four drivers (in their respective prime) were pretty even.

What do you guys think?

Throwback / Historic Does anybody know why the wrc went from big car numbers on the sides to numbers on the windows from 2004 up to now?

The car pictures are from 2003. The first one from wrc finland 2003 where they already used the small car numbers on the side (just like in 2002) and in wales 2003. The second one is from wrc italy(sanremo) 2003 where they still used the big classic car numbers on the doors.

Throwback / Historic Mini's WRC programme: What Went Wrong?

Mini's WRC programme was short-lived, with not even one proper full season under its belt.

But why was that, and what led to Prodrive being stripped of its Works team status by BMW?

This is what went wrong with Mini's WRC programme.

Throwback / Historic Fun Fact: Gilles Panizzi would’ve finished second in the championship in 2002 had his car started on the first day of Rally Monte Carlo

In 2002, Gilles Panizzi finished 6th in the championship with 31 points, just 6 points behind the 2nd placed driver Petter Solberg.

However, he incurred a 2 minute and 10 second time penalty due to his car being unable to start and being late to the time control. Had this not happened, he would’ve finished second in the rally with Solberg who had finished 6th would’ve dropped to 7th and received no points

Crazy to think that Panizzi who was only a force on tarmac could’ve finished second in the championship which just goes to show how inconsistent the drivers except Marcus Gronholm who won the championship by 40 points were in 2002

Throwback / Historic Copyrighted videos, who to ask?

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to feather the legendary wrc ford focus from 1999 on my YouTube channel. Ill be seeing the real car in person soon and thought it would be cool to show some cinematic footage of the car but am also looking to source some clips of the car from the past. I’m worried about copyright and am just wondering if anyone would know the best place to source any videos or who to ask for permission. Thanks :)
