Idk i dont think so, man. If you look at their profile theyre a fairly new painter and have actually put out some decent tabletop ready marines but I think the excessive detail on this one just made it a bit more difficult and gave a rougher result.
You never know the age or skill level of users here so its best to avoid implying stuff like this unless youre ABSOLUTELY 100% POSITIVE they're having a laugh. So generally very, very infrequently. Because this doesn't really look like bait, which means a new painter posted something they worked hard on and are proud of and you responded by mocking them. Its rude and hostile. Not a good look or a good way to treat people entering the hobby.

Thanks for the comment! A reddit user once told me to change hobby cause i was struggling BT pauldrons. New painters need positives support. Forgive my bas english :)

what is the bait part? im not very well versed in mini painting

u/shebb2000 3d ago
I actually don’t know either. I think he’s implying that I’m lying about my painting experience.

u/General_Scipio 3d ago
Not going to lie I thought this looked pretty bad. Then I zoomed in and it's not bad at all it's pretty damn good work.
Some natural light and some better angles and this would look good this is a bad photo not a bad model.
Once the base is done that will help loads too. Seeing the overspill on the base makes your brain think, that's sloppy as fuck. But it's the base it doesn't matter. It just tricks your eye on the first reaction.
Good work OP

What’s with this comment section? I’ve never seen such a hostile reaction to a new painter

I may have angered my Machine Spirit. What do i do to make it less angry at me? I have candles and purity seals. I pray to it everyday when I start it up, but alas it continues to growl at me and get really warm. Should i retire it brother? Or will the emporer protect me from such anger?

u/shebb2000 3d ago
Bring yourself to the techpriests brother! For the emperor has a use for us all and the Omnissiah shall find it.

damn, lotta assholes in the comments today. I'm barely better than you, but a tip for the metallic is to base coat them black and the dry brush progressively lighter metalics onto them. currently your metallics look a little flat. for gold, do the same but start with bronze and the highlight with gold. paint coverage is good, but i would try a little harder on the head, especially because the eye is naturally going to be drawn to it. remember to come back with the blue after you make the detail pass to cover up any mistakes, like that streak of red next to the eyes. get your smallest brush and place it on the surface of the model, and try to push it towards the upraised details. Finally, try and apply the wash everywhere.

If you’re barely better what’s with the paragraph of tips

u/ProcessBeginning9016 2d ago
because i happen to be good in a different way than him. see the consistent coverage over a flat surface on the reds and blues? I just cant get my paint to look like that. I have to use an airbrush if i want solid colors over anything larger than a chest emblem. I've worked hard to get good at metallics, because i paint them the most, and at details, because they're my favorite part to paint.

Advice from your peers is never a bad thing. You do not need to be in a master-apprentice situation to exchange information.
Weird take honestly.

u/ValkyrionReddit 2d ago
Point to where I said that

If you’re barely better what’s with the paragraph of tips
You very clearly insinuated that they shouldn't be giving tips if they're barely better?
1
u/ValkyrionReddit 2d ago
I never said one needs to be in a master-apprentice situation to give advice, I just think it’s a bit disingenuous to say you’re the same level then provide various examples of how you’re clearly not. OP hasn’t nailed any of the fundamentals nor basics yet

u/VaderVihs 3d ago
Looking good! You can probably clean up some of the paint spillage but your coverage is solid. It seems like you applied wash to some parts of the model heavily and other parts not at all? You should try applying the wash more evenly and then highlighting or stippling paint back onto the raised areas to bring the color back up.

I think it looks perfectly decent for a first try! That was my 2nd mini I painted, I cheated and bought a GW red primer can and then only had to brush on the details. Your camera work does make it look quite blurry and a lot of details were lost or look smudged I think. Adding a wash if you hadn't would also make some details pop. Keep at it!

Why be hostile to new painters like this? All skill levels are welcome to post here. This user built and painted a mini - that makes it worthy of posting.

u/shebb2000 3d ago
Thanks, this was the mini I was most proud of finishing- I thought just getting paint on a mini to be table ready was pretty good. Now I’m looking at all my done marines a little differently..

? I thought I was pretty clear? Is English not your first language?
4
u/Brycecrispietreat 2d ago
What does someone’s native language have to do with this conversation?

u/shebb2000 2d ago
The longest word I wrote had 7 letters and you seemed to not understand, so I thought maybe you were bilingual. Ik ik I should’ve just assumed illiteracy was the cause, my bad.

idk why that guy was so rude to you.I Just want u to know that i think your model is really cool.He doesn’t have the power to tell you weather you tried or not.

Look at what the wanker posted to me. Also the idiot has painted 50 models.

u/Dry_Lie_1009 2d ago
If you can’t encourage newcomers then you don’t belong in this hobby
2
u/Brycecrispietreat 2d ago
Idk if I think telling people to put a gun to their head belongs in the hobby either.

Thanks! I haven’t been painting all that long just a few months. This is around my 50th model including all the little termigants I did.

Very nice, good job! Don't listen to haters. They are just jealous that they can't get that same satisfaction from the painting process as before.

Realistically I think this is pretty good for a beginner painter. The models covered. Most of your colors are saturated pretty well. It could absolutely use some clean up and refining. Especially on the helmet and with the Wash you used to coat the model. But this is a solid foundation my dude. Welcome to the hobby and keep going :)
This was mine before I gifted him to a friend
