Corruption

So out fourth session last night and finally got to try the corruption rules. They are brilliant. My group have played enough Warhammer to understand exactly where corruption leads. But when the vulnerable character got the offer -- it was just too good to resist. So he willingly (and with the encouragement of the other players) chose the Dark Path.

This is a very elegant system and runs like a dream.

What is your experience regarding the system after those four sessions? How does money system works for you and character progress?

Character progression is brilliant - tying it into the endeavours makes the downtime breathe

What about the money system? :)

Works really well. It's an abstraction but an abstraction that works on a per adventure basis and reflects the differences between social classes.

Thanks. Good to know.

I agree with you… many of the mechanics in the system are pretty elegant and innovative. It is visible that they just tried to do things in a new way. Regarding the combat and wounds, money, progress or… as you already mentioned, the corruption. I also like the system a lot. Probably will be migrating to it at the end of the year. And I am seriously curious about the new books they gonna do for it.

What were the players' statuses? I still have doubts about the Coin mechanic. I don't know what conversion rates to use for possible purchases if one character has Gold status and makes purchases for the rest of the team with Silver/Brass status. The ideas given in the manual seem to me to be insufficiently punitive for such behavior, and they place a heavy burden on the GM to decide when to say stop. Similarly, the difference between identical items/services with different statuses is not clearly marked, for example, what is the mechanical difference in medical services when we want to pay for surgery?

We have one gold, a couple of silver and a couple of brass. The gold character absolutely can pay for everything. But then the other characters look like - and are treated as - lackeys to everyone else. They're staff. And a lot of characters won't like that. There's also the fact the Gold character simply won't want to or think to do it. For an example ina previous session the gold noble rode a horse for a three day journey but the other characters walked because it never occured to the noble character that Brass or Silver characters wouldn't walk. That's what peasants do.

It's no different to tracking coin; in 4e a character with 30GC could pay for everything and just have to do some maths to work out how much they have left. In this the same is also true but without the maths.

I think you'll find it works a lot smoother than you think once you're playing.
