Help in finding a John Wayne film

My grandfather was a massive John Wayne fan so I saw a lot of them when I was young. Sadly I can't remember much of them. The one I'm looking for, I have very little memory of, is black and white. John Wayne looked somewhat young and 2 women where fighting for his attention. At least I think so. One was a normal woman of the time (for a lack of a better term) and the other was more like a cowgirl, rough and tough. and that's all I can really remember. I want to say the movie had a dark circle around the edges but I'm not sure if that was maybe the copy he had or if it was the film that had a dark vignette. I know it's a long shot but any help would be great!

She was a stunner in everything she did and she could play bad or good with equal ease.

Tall in the Saddle, as the others suggest.

Huh. I just finished reading about fighter pilot Robin Olds -- who was married to (and had two children with) Ella Raines for almost 30 years!

She certainly was a beauty.

Can we all agree that Ella Raines is most overlooked, underused Hollywood knockout to ever hit the silver screen? A short career, with relatively few films, but once you happen to catch one of the them, your first reaction is, "Who the hell is THAT!?"

That's awesome! My grandfather loved John Wayne films too. Every time we went to visit he had one on. My mother kept buying him the movies on VHS for him. I got to see so many but not them all. I miss watching them with him. Thanks to him I love westerns.
