Open Song from the 80‘s with weird sound

I‘m looking for a song that from the sound I‘d wager is from the 80‘s. I believe it‘s an instrumental but I‘m not sure. The lead instrument is some kind of synthetic jungle-flute. At least that’s the best description I can give it. This i my best attempt at recreating the melody: https://voca.ro/1b4LTOInr0Bz

Edit: Just wanna reiterate that I‘m not certain it’s actually from the 80‘s. Neither that it’s actually a synthetic flute- the synths have a kind of „pressed“ quality in their tones that remind me of pan flutes or a blown bottle. It’s nothing like a nice clear whistle from a recorder. Sound is kinda upbeat and relatively fast

Edit: Ok, found it. Was way if my Mark in terms of time of release and choice of instruments and pretty much everything else, but it’s „El gigante del Hierro“ by „Grupo Sonador“

Came here to say this. Starts off slow and then speeds up.

Popcorn by Hot Butter? Though that is from the 70s.

1

u/Ouisch Aug 07 '25

I'm thinking Popcorn as well.

No that’s like synth music 101 I would have recognized that immediately 😅

I thought that was the greatest song even when it first came out.

Upvote for a song I haven't heard since it was on Friday Night Videos. I should do a Howard Jones Spotify deep dive. Thanks.

It sounds like the UCLA marching cadence. dah di di di di di di dah dah dah da dah

1

u/Muscalp Aug 07 '25

The base rythm is kinda similar but it’s definitely not a marching cadence. That’s just me being a bad singee

Could it be Yaz/Yazoo - Only You or possibly The Art Of Noise - Moments In Love

1

u/Muscalp Aug 07 '25

Both way, way too slow

1

u/Feisty-Candidate3693 Aug 07 '25

Gotcha. Best of luck in your search.

Could it be Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull? There are a lot of instrumental sections.

1

u/Muscalp Aug 07 '25

That‘s a real flute

1

u/Double_Station3984 Aug 08 '25

2

u/pootenshammer Aug 07 '25

Anybody else find that music video to be creepy AF?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

YES!! The legs used to give me nightmares.

2

u/pootenshammer Aug 08 '25

I just rewatched the video for fun and it's even creepier than I remembered. The legs are the creepiest part, but the whole thing is downright disturbing!

My gut feeling is that it might be Enigma - Sadeness Part II based on the flutey synth description.

The soundtrack of Basic Instinct contained a lot of songs like this.

There is an instrumental version of Save a Prayer by Duran Duran which fits the bill but probably not upbeat enough....
