LP Boots

Someone explain to me the LP boot game. Why are they so tall? Why do they cut their pants? Why do crew representatives have theirs ears gauged? Should I hang out with them? Should I avoid them? All I know is they have the best boots in the game and every time I've worked with them they have been pretty solid. Easy to work with and generally solid product producers. What's up about the boots and pants

Are you talking about pegged pants? If so, that comes from way-back logging days. Loggers in heavy understory would cut off or peg their pants so they would be less likely to get caught on staubs, branches, rocks ...

I don't know how high the tops on the boots are that you are describing. We (FS) used to be required to wear at least an 8" topped leather boots (no metal toes). Some people, like me, chose higher tops (12 or 14") to reduce the amount of shin bruises from staubs, rocks, etc. I also wanted more ankle support, especially in our loose pumice soils.

They wear their boot tops to just below the knee. Not kidding.

Not to be pedantic, but pegging your pants is when you fold them over and then roll the bottoms to make the ankle narrower. Stagging your pants means to cut the hems off.

Ah, sure. By the 70s it appears that in my area of the world, the word "pegging" had become synonymous with "stagging", at least with the WeyCo loggers I worked with. Thanks for the point of clarification.
