Random landowners firing off ad hoc backfires. What’s the worst that can happen? I bet Ed Pulaski would have had some thoughts.

I knew of a Cal Fire captain that went rogue on a major fire in SoCal, lit a backfire inn a bad spot without telling anyone in that division and it hit a house up canyon pretty hard and killed a local government firefighter.

I almost had that happen to me but it was my own Captain that set a backfire that almost took out me and two other, one of whom was the Chief of the neighboring department!
