Chesil Street Car park

Hi, I need to park for 2 days whilst walking the South Downs. Council have recommended Chesil Street multi storey but Parkopedia and Ringo say it’s max 10 hours. Anyone local can you confirm? Alternative options for safe parking?

Free parking in Winchester?

I know this obviously is a long shot. But I am a student and have been offered a part time job in Winchester but am really weighing up the parking situation because it is so expensive it would amount to a large cut off my wages. If anyone knows about any streets that are free (I am more than happy to walk into the town centre) or more economical parking options that would be amazing! I live rural so public transport isn't really an option unfortunately.

I'll be spending lots of time in Winchester for a few years now and was just wondering if there was anywhere close I could continue my hobby of reading comics or even collecting back issues of comics

Join us for bass-heavy dance music in a club setting without alcohol or drugs at Unit 12 in Winchester, starting on 6th September. Free entry (choose what you donate on exit 😉)

This night is full of dance music DJs and performers, with an atmospheric dancefloor, quality soundsystem and custom visuals!

There's a small alcohol-free bar available for drinks and snacks, and an outdoor chill out area (undercover and with heaters) to relax and socialise.

At each party you'll hear a mix of underground electronic genres, from Drum & Bass, Jungle, and Oldskool Rave to Garage, House, and Techno, delivered by our passionate resident DJs and guests. Come down and have a real clubbing experience that's loud and beautifully clear.

7pm - 11pm. First Saturday of every month, kicking off this Sat 6th Sept.

No drugs. No alcohol. It's all about the music and the friendly, level headed people, not moody crowds.

Free entry or pay what you want to support the event running costs (c’mon, what’s a few quid, really!?!) Over 18s.

Looking for a flat replacement

So the situation is I moved in to a flat with my now ex, and the living situation has become incredibly awkward and stressful for me, and I’m looking for someone to replace me from the contract so I can live elsewhere as I can’t afford to rent two places. It’s a 3 bedroom flat in Stanmore just next to Cromwell Lane, good access to public transport and has plenty of space. The landlord is ran by Martin & Co a good estate agency and there are no issues other than the previous relationship that is urging me to vacate. Only responding to serious offers and the contract extends to July 2026.

Flatmate insists bin bags are fine in the Winchester recycling bin, but the Council says differently. Need a friendly way to explain!

Hey all, Wanted your advice, my roommate and I are having a bit of a tiff over recycling the proper way in Winchester. The official Winchester City Council recycling guidelines are pretty clear: recyclables must be “clean, dry, and loose”, no carrier bags or black bin liners allowed. Plus, Hampshire County Council (covering Winchester) stresses: “Putting recycling in bags (unless your local council provides you with one) is as good as rubbish. It can’t be processed so all your recyclables will be lost.” But my flatmate insists it’s fine to just toss everything in bin bags, he doesn’t see the harm or doesn’t realise they cause issues at the sorting facility. I’m not trying to argue, I just want to find a friendly, non-confrontational way to set things straight. Any suggestions or tips on how best to explain this (maybe with visuals, suggestions for smoother routine, etc.)? Thanks in advance!

Rehearsal Rooms

Are there any band rehearsal rooms around Winchester?

I only seem to be able to find them located at Peter Symonds and the Uni - does anyone know if non-students can hire these?

Or do I need to go to Southampton to jam with a full backline setup?

We’re a miserable bunch

Preface this by saying Winchester is by far the nicest place I’ve ever lived. Clean, beautiful architecture, stunning countryside and more history than my brain has the capacity to absorb

So with that all considered, why is everyone so cold and seemingly miserable? Go past someone on a walk and there’s an 80% chance they won’t even look at you, never mind smile or say hello. Pull over to wait for someone on one of Winchester’s many thin roads and it’s 50/50 if they’ll do the most common of common courtesy’s and say thankyou. Go round shops and people seem to lose all sense of their surroundings and will barge past you without dropping a simple ‘excuse me’. It seems like everyone here has a ‘me against the world’ mindset

Maybe it’s just the UK in general now, or the south (I’m from the Midlands, have also lived in the North, but this is the first time I’ve lived in the south, London aside) or the area I live in Winchester. But the coldness of people here is the one thing that really lets down this otherwise perfect place

In need of a french tuto

Hello,

I've been trying to learn french for a few years now but it never truly stuck. I was wondering if anyone knows of someone teaching french already or someone who is happy to teach french on a relaxed 1 2 1 basis. I'm really wanting to develop my conversational French outside of Duolingo and happy to discuss the cost of lessons. Do please let me know if anyone is recommended.

Winchester locals, which hidden bakery gem do you swear by?

The Bridge Patisserie closing feels like the end of an era, and I’m now on the hunt for a new favourite spot. I’d love to hear about small, independent bakeries you think deserve more love, the kind you’d happily keep secret but also want to support. I’m talking buttery pastries, fresh sourdough, and great coffee, all with a cosy, homemade feel. Any must-try bakeries or cafes in Winchester or nearby villages?

Is anyone here a 3 customer?

3 (also known as Three) have not been able to provide a mobile voice or data service in Winchester for 2 months now. They are blaming Ericsson for the problem with a comms mast in the city centre, and my business is unable to use any of the 4 lines we have with them.

I’d be very interested to hear from anyone who has heard from 3 about this. I went to the branch today and they were useless (the assistant wanted to chuck me out because I politely asked him to stop talking over me!). The customer service system is also useless. Apparently 3 are fully aware but not automatically refunding customers until they raise a formal complaint.

The whole saga is a bungling mess of non-communication and incompetence on the part of 3.

Edited to fix typos.
