Discussion A sign that Windows 10 is still very popular: They need to roll out ESU slowly, and it's not available everywhere at once.
It's a multi-billion dollar company with large data centers around the world. The process of ESU registration is automated. There's no staff that registers every single user by hand.
But still, they need to roll out the ESU registration process slowly from region to region. Probably to not overwhelm their servers. (And allow users more time to consider Windows 11.)

General Question Is it possible to automatically duplicate a single file a set number of times and then mass rename all those files to the names of other pre-existing files that I want to replace with all my duplicated files?
Idk if any of that made sense, but I want to take a single audio file, convert it to a WEM, and then replace every WEM file in a game's files with all the duplicated ones I make
I'd really rather not do this manually so I'm wondering if there's a program or Windows feature I can use to get this done

Discussion We need a reliable way to permanently disable automatic Store updates.
I'm hoping to start a discussion about the automatic app updates from the Microsoft Store and how they currently function, as it's a source of significant frustration. The core issue is that even when "Update apps automatically" is turned off in the Store settings, updates are still frequently forced through.
My primary reason for wanting to control this is to maintain a consistent user interface. I use Windows 10 by choice because I prefer its Modern design language. However, recent forced app updates are replacing this UI with the Fluent design from Windows 11. This creates a jarring and visually inconsistent experience across the operating system. If users choose to remain on Windows 10, it's often for reasons just like this, and forced UI changes undermine that choice.
This also raises a couple of other important points. Firstly, when an update is forced, it's unclear if we are also being forced to accept a new user agreement without explicit consent. Secondly, for users on metered or limited data connections, these unwanted background downloads can be a genuine issue.
The current toggle feels ineffective. A clear, accessible, and respected option to permanently disable automatic app updates would be a major improvement, giving users proper control over their system's appearance, data usage, and software agreements.

Discussion Reactivation process after hardware change with local account
I have an older PC that had a registered version of Windows 7 Pro x64. A long while back I did an in place upgrade to Windows 10 Pro x64 and I guess the free upgrade period had expired because I had to obtain a new activation code for Windows 10 Pro. I have never had a Microsoft account so I have only had a local account on this computer. I am wanting to upgrade the motherboard and CPU and I am sure that will require my Windows 10 Pro to need activating again. Also, it is worth noting that in Settings -> Update & Security -> Activation, it shows that "Windows is activated with a digital license", which I didn't expect since I entered an activation code to activate Windows 10 Pro on this computer. When I use an elevated powershell and enter "wmic path softwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey" the response I get is only "OA3xOriginalProductKey". But I still have my Win 10 activation code and the "ShowKeyPlus" app in the Microsoft store confirmed it is the correct key.
I know that if I have a Microsoft account it makes reactivation easier. But if I go through the process of Settings -> Update & Security -> Activation -> Add and Account, will that simply link my product key to a Microsoft account and nothing else, or will that add a Microsoft account login account for my computer so that I have to login with my Microsoft account instead of my local account?
If I make this hardware change without adding a Microsoft account, can I reactivate my Windows 10 with the same activation code that I used to originally activate it and therefore eliminating the need for a Microsoft account?

General Question How to click on barely visible window?
Hopefully the image is clear. I have a window, which Chrome, just above the taskbar, but below that window and slightly above the taskbar I have another window, which likely Chrome as well, but cannot touch it. If I get close the mouse cursor switches to the resize mode for ether the Chrome window or the taskbar, even if the taskbar is locked.
The simple solution is to move the Chrome window up a little so I click behind it, but I would like to know if there is a way to disable the cursor changing to resize and to be able to click on the exact spot I want or need to? Thank you.

General Question Will new apps/games will be able to be used on Win10 after the end of official support?
Let's say the official support for Win10 has ended and new games and applications started coming out after this, and I still use a Win10. Will I be able to use those apps and games? I'm thinking that obviously companies won't make them optimized/suitable for Win10 anymore, so that we'd run into issues.
This is important to me. Just upgraded to Win11 and hated it. I wanna keep using Win10

General Question Does anyone have a suggestion for a 3rd party alternative to windows network folder sharing? Free + simple to setup?
I have 2 PCs. They're on the same network, same router, same subnet, and have all the correct settings, registry values, firewall not blocking, etc.
I can't for the life of me get windows file sharing to work. I've tried every single thing in every tutorial, I've tried asking chatGPT, I've run over every single possible scenario causing it to not work that I could find online, and I simply cannot get the two PCs to share folders, even though they can ping each other.
I'm completely burned out on spending hours trying to fix what should be the most simple fucking thing windows can do, so I just want a free third party app or software that can mimic the function of sharing a folder on windows over a LAN that actually works and isn't going to give me a headache. I literally spent the better part of 6 hours yesterday trying to share a single folder. I tried googling it but I couldn't really find anything that seemed to be what I was looking for.
All I want is to be able to view a folder that's on the "host pc" from my "main pc", and cut/copy/paste/use what's in there on my main PC, without having to connect / enter credentials everytime. It's not particularly big files or anything, so transfer speed isn't even a big problem (about 100 mb per file, and only 1-2 files at a time)

General Question Remove a file named "Linux" that appeared after getting a virus
Well after downloading a stupid virus filled emulator this Linux file suddenly appeared when I went into my files yesterday, I can't do anything with it and I would like to remove it but it's impossible because it contains absolutely nothing.. It's not a program or anything just an empty thing.. I really want to get rid of it because I have a bad feeling about it.

Feature Which Windows is best for my PC?
Hi, My system specs are: • H310 • Intel Core i3-9100F • 16GB DDR4 RAM • RX 580 8GB • 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD
I’d like to know which version of Windows would be the best choice for me.
My usage is pretty casual: playing games that my system can handle, downloading and watching movies/TV shows, light web browsing, and listening to music with an iFi Nano iDSD amp/DAC + HiFiMan Sundara headphones using Spotify, foobar2000, and Equalizer APO + Peace.
Which Windows version would you recommend?

General Question where to get windows 10 iso to make a clean install on a laptop hosting windows 11
During a period of insanity, I upgraded from windows 10 to 11.
It took me over 10 days to realize my GPU can't be read by any softwares (NitroSense, MSI afterburner, NVIDIA GeForce), and my effing bluetooth doesn't work.
Gods this company is shit. I wish more games ran on my linux partition.
I'd like to go back, but all the instructions I see point toward microsoft's official pages, like its media creation tool, which mentions only upgrading to 10, not downgrading.
I'm comfortable with creating bootable websites. But I need an iso. Where can I get an iso so that I can keep my licence when I downgrade like I kept it when I made a clean install upgrade?

General Question Why do versions of windows 10 exist with build numbers 20xxx and 21xxx?
Basically I found acopy of windows 10 on the internet archive that has build number 21390 even though windows 10 22H2 is build 19045.
Some builds of windows 11 are as low as 21370 meaning they have a lower build number than windows 10. I also found that windows server 2022 has the build 20348 so I really don't know why microsoft went ahead and made these build numbers if they were going to replace it with windows 11 anyways.
Also why did build 21390 even get developed if it was going to get scrapped mere months later in favour of windows 11?
