So recently the new windows update has been "breaking" SSD's, or at least that's what everyone says.
(The list of drives affected is in the image, im not very educated on this topic so correct me if i say something inaccurate or wrong)
I have a question about that, if a drive gets in the "NG Lv.2" state, which means that after rebooting windows it won't be able to find the drive and neither the bios, (correct me if im wrong).
does that mean that the drive is fully bricked (not usable anymore, cannot access its files or install another OS on it),
or only the partitions were messed up, and the data may still be recoverable from a linux usb?
(And if you can "fix" the windows install or install another OS)

Hi, I do small town IT work for individuals and a select few small businesses. I have always used local accounts and uninstalled OneDrive.
Anyway recently I have set up a few folks with the whole MS account experience. Everything is fine but I really would prefer to have docs, pics, desktop and downloads stored on the pc then use OD as a legit backup source .
Can you set it up that way and have you seen any end user screw it up?
I definitely have gotten frantic calls where people believe they have lost everything by somehow getting to the local desktop instead of the OD desktop
How do you handle if there is an internet failure? Do you make an exact copy on a local account?

So in new version of Store, it is not possible to turn off automatic updates for apps. Only pause them for five weeks. Since I need to use specific version of the apps, is there some workaround?
Thx.

if i click the little “unlink this pc” button in the onedrive account settings tab, will it unlink onedrive for every person’s microsoft account on the computer or just mine? i personally despise onedrive but the person i share the computer with uses it fairly consistently, so i don’t wanna mess up their organizational system on accident.

I've heard that there is a way for your computer to turn off automatically at a certain time. I do not want to constantly set that time, because I want my computer to turn off an hour after I go to sleep, instead of at a specific time every day. Is there a way to set my computer to turn off in an hour from when I activate that function? Thank you in advance

So i reinstalled windows cuz i had some problems. I dont see the kb5063878 update in the update history nor in the tab with updates "to download". Is there a way to find out if i have installed or not? I want to reinstall my games but im afraid of the ssd corruption issues from the update. I already installed one thats over 50gb before i knew about the update and i have no issues, so does this mean im safe or if i install any other games im taking a risk?

Trying to install Windows 11 on my Lenovo P14s Gen 5 (AMD) laptop and cannot get past this screen because of a missing "media driver". It would sure be nice if it told me what driver specifically was missing here...
But no, we're going to give you an ambiguous hint that it could be a "USB or Hard disk driver".
Which, one would think. Okay! Sure, Ill just go grab the "USB and Hard disk drivers" from my machine's vendor's website. Except USB and Hard disk drivers aren't a thing, and any of the other drivers that are provided for this laptop don't appease the driver page.
There's absolutely nothing unique about my hardware, what am I missing here? Never in my 20 years of computing and hundreds of windows installs have I ever ran into an issue like this.

I’m writing this as someone with decades of IT experience—from Olivetti PCs to modern laptops. Two weeks ago, I bought a new Windows 11 device. Since then, I’ve spent countless hours trying to fix a problem that should never exist: blurry, unreadable fonts across the system.
I’ve tried every recommended tool, registry tweak, DPI override, and third-party patch. Some help a little, but most introduce new problems—especially in graphics rendering. This isn’t a personal failure. It’s a systemic flaw.
Windows 11’s font rendering—particularly on touch displays—is broken. And it’s not just me. Many users are quietly struggling, feeling like they’re the problem. Let me be clear: you are not the problem. The issue lies with the builders of Windows 11, who released a product with a known defect and then prematurely closed support for Windows 10, which worked far better for many of us.
This is not how responsible system design works. It’s chaotic, not systematic. It’s business over quality.
People need to read comfortably online—not squint at blurry text and wonder if their eyes are failing. We deserve better. We deserve systems that respect our time, our intelligence, and our basic need for clarity.
As I’ve said before: “Critique is help for free.” I hope this message reaches the right ears. If Microsoft doesn’t fix this soon, they risk not just technical criticism, but the erosion of trust from the very users who built their legacy.
To everyone out there feeling isolated or defeated by this issue: you are not alone. And you are not wrong to expect better.

I did uninstalled KB5063878 first, then when I checked the 'Uninstall updates' section again, KB5062660 was there, so I uninstalled it. This was before I found out that you only needed to uninstall the update once. Is there anything else I have to do? The picture shows what my 'Uninstall updates' section appears like after I have uninstalled twice.

I was getting that error and couldn't uninstall the update but eventually with the help of AI found out the problem.
Basically when you install an update, the 'container' that Windows Sandbox uses also gets updated, and apparently you can't automatically downgrade it. So you just have to disable Windows Sandbox first via the "Turn Windows Features On and Off" menu and restart, then it will let you.
The clue is in the windows CBS.log file:
2025-08-23 13:09:12, Error CBS Container base layer depends on LCU version greater than '10.0.26100.4946'.: 800f0825 [Error,Facility=(000f),Code=2085 (0x0825)]
2025-08-23 13:09:12, Info CBS Failed verifying that the target package: Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~26100.4946.1.26 doesn't have a container layer dependency [HRESULT = 0x800f0825 - CBS_E_CANNOT_REMOVE]
That also would explain why only some people aren't able to uninstall it.
TL;DR If you have Windows Sandbox enabled, disable that and restart, then uninstall the update. You can enable it again after uninstalling the update.

I recently built a new rig, and as such did a completely fresh Windows 11 Professional install. I subsequently also rolled into the Insider program (I was in it before) and selected the beta line, which was recommended.
Today I realized I had not set my world clocks yet. I have family in Europe, friends in Australia, so I had added a clock for CET and AEST in the past so I could just hover over the clock and see what time it is. However.... in my current build, that option does not seem to exist anymore.
All instructions on the internet are the same:
1) Go to settings. 2) Click on Time and Language. 3) Select Data & Time and then 4) Scroll down and select Addtional Clocks.
But... in my case, option 4 doesn't exist. There is no "Additional Clocks", its not there. I can search for this setting in the search bar on the top, and it doesn't show anything.
Since I am running an Insider build, I am assuming it may be a bug...... or they are in the process of changing it to something new that isn't quite done yet?
In any case, I am running this build: Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.26120.5761]
On the Windows Insider blog I did not see anything mentioned in the release notes for this build regarding clock settings.....
Is this a known bug? Is there a trick? Anyone with a bit more info?

I have a new desktop I've built recently:
Is there any way to enable Copilot+? It feels ridiculous it's limited to my MASSIVELY slower Surface device but I can't have those features on my desktop.

So i haven't used my pc in a while as I've been waiting for my new gpu to arrive, but I've read online about this latest update which kills your ssd. I have a WD Black SN850X. My question is, what updates should I have and not have installed on my system. I uninstalled some 2025-07 cumulative update because I thought it was causing issues in valorant, however I don't think that had anything to do with it. Now, should I install every update that is available except this ssd killer update? Or should I not. If I try to install every update except from this ssd killer, it might install the ssd killer update anyway. I dont really know what to do and any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I used it a lot. Being now forced to open a web browser instead of simply pressing the windows key and typing "maps" is so stupid. What was M$ thinking?
r/Windows11 • u/raynmanch • 1d ago
I only download and watch movies and do web browsing. I torrent big files sometimes but nowhere near 50 GB sizes.
