The short version is every religion has a place among mages because literally just believing hard enough lets you do magic as a mage, and I think its worth noting that most Choristers don't internalize what they do as magic, but as miracles of God.

The Ahl-I-Batin are cool and my favorite faction but they're their own thing and definitely heretics by the standards of most islamic religious authorities.
