Unlike my overall opinion of the hungarians (excl. Budapest), I still like the poles. I think Poland still has a chances to fix its mess, unlike Hungary where the solution is to just kill it with fire or something.

So far it seems Orban is on it's way out and poland has it's far right very likely on it's way in

Yeah no, the only solution for Poland is for it to purge the entire political scene and start anew. Because the only alternative to that is PiS-PO flip-flopping.

I live here, and honestly, Poland impresses me at every turn. Of course it has it's problems like any country but I'd rather be here than in my home country.

They can always send back all the shitload of EU money they get, if they don’t like 🇪🇺

It's partially true, EU funds are not the whole story. Like every catching-up economy, Poland has deficits in primary income (!), mainly due to profit repatriation and interest payments. Meaning that we bear a permanent cost that is invisible to most of redditors out here. Remember it's never black & white story...

And what is the EU role in all of this, apart from being a net contributor to Polish budget?

u/chargedup_Greg Polska 4d ago
I don't know if you are familiar with the core-periphery therminology, but let's agree on that EU is not just a constraint it’s also a platform. Structural funds, access market, and the free movement of people /capital gave Poland conditions for rapid growth that it could hardly have achieved alone!
The problem is not that the EU blocks development, but that its institutional design favors consolidation of value in the core states. This creates a structural ceiling for latecomers like Poland, unless they build strong domestic brands and move up the value chain. You also tend to look at EU funds in a very one-sided way, as if they were given out for free (xD). In reality, German economy benefited probably the most from opening Europe to CEE region, you can read the literature on it. For instance, Wolfgang Münchau’s recent book ‘Kaput: The End of the German Miracle’ makes this point very clearly.
Have a nice day!3

So you grow but you can't grow at the same time? Looks like mental gymnastics to me.

Poland is so fucked it is hard to comprehend. Economy is doing nice (for now), but the politics are just insane

u/chargedup_Greg Polska 4d ago
I don't feel like we're fukked. Our economic model is reaching its limits since we can't rely on low labor costs forever, but overall politics in Poland isn’t that bad. Of course, it’s far from perfect, but I know the media tend to overhype it.

Brother, the guy on the left is from the right-wing party that, according to all polls, will form the next Polish government with even more far-right party (Konfederacja).
If you think this mix of right-wing anti-European sentiment with even more extreme, far-right pro-Polexit party is nothing major I have no words really.

u/Bodiax 4d ago
Do not forget that Poland already had a government coalition of PiS far right lunatics from LPR - and we survived it. We also survived 8 years of PiS with twats from SuwPol. Sure, it sucked and sure, vision of a PiS-Konfederacja coalition with Nawrocki as a president and - in worst case scenario - with Braun in the mix is very grim, but 1st it would be a tough cooperation, 2nd the result of 2027 election is not predestined, a lot can happen still, and 3rd it is possible that Konfederacja will not survive such coalition. Kaczyński can still devour his smaller partner like did with dozens of parties already.
Even in darkness there’s still room for hope.

Not everybody survived. The 7 women who've died because they were denied medically necessary abortions sure didn't.

I agree that the far-right is a threat to a united Europe, but I think your concerns are a bit overblown. In Poland there’s no real anti-EU or ‘Polexit’ trend, and the core of the main conservative party, PiS, is actually pro-European. Sure, there are exceptions, but overall the tendency is pro-EU. When anti-EU (or I'd rather say 'skeptical') rhetoric pops up, it’s usually more about protesting against Tusk’s party (PO), which they see as too pro-German (mainly for domestic politics, it's doesnt matter).
Instead of being scared by the raise of far-rigiht, I’d suggest thinking about "Why people vote for these kinds of parties". IMO it’s less about rejecting Europe as a project of united countries and more about rejecting the politics of the liberal EU mainstream. It’s possible that after the rise of the right, liberals will adjust some of their policies (we’re already seeing them backing off from the Green Deal), and the right will lose momentum. But of course, there are many other factors in play e.g. Russian propaganda etc.

u/cathwaitress 4d ago
Why people vote for these parties: R*ssian propaganda (and because they’re brainrotten enough to believe it).
There is no Polexit trend YET.
The same way 10 years ago no one thought Americans would elect a rapist for president.
And Poland a pathetic wanna be gangster.

u/absurdherowaw Vlaanderen 4d ago
It is also false to say Poland is still waiting for it. There is ALREADY Polexit trend. Some members of Konfederacja (15%) and most members of Braun party (4-5%) support openly idea of referendum on the EU membership.

While it can be concerning, let’s keep in mind that while presidential power is limited in Poland, he is a wannabe Polish maga with all the mental maturity you can see in that movement. Flags is just symbolic way of owning the libs so if you read this energy as “teenager showing middle finger to a car of his school principal” you’re most likely right.
The source account this photo came from is of president supporter trying to boost importance of this move, while actually if you would watch this session, you would find that president is so embarrassingly out of his depth intellectually, that the best reaction you could have is cringe.
He is more suited to be a hotel security guy, who boosts his ego fighting other football hooligans. Unfortunately he chose another career, one he doesn’t have skillset for.

You’ve shared a picture without context, and the obvious effect is fueling hate against Poland/Poles. I don’t think that’s a objectively right thing to do. So, could you avoid spreading low-quality news / propaganda? Thanks.

It's just part of internal politics, nothing to worry about unless a real far-right party takes over in Poland. Law and Justice is not far-right (part of it might be, but main leader- Kaczyński is not...)
