Western politicians still hope for peace, while Putin kills people in their own beds. Who still believes that he wants peace? He is simply destroying cities far from the front line, showing that he has no intention of negotiating. The only way to stop him is by force.

Russia is constantly escalating the conflict. If Europe tries to get even it might make Russia back down. The problem is that the UN peacekeeping doesn't work (because of the constant vetoes) and an all-out war can start only if Russia attacks NATO members (because the alliance is defensive in nature). One of the best solutions is to continue to send supplies and money, while we reinforce to be ready for a near-future war. It's sad, but I don't think that we can have peace in our time if Russia doesn't change course.

Because it's not the best for Europe for an all-out war. I think the EU should strengthen it's support of Ukraine and providing more help. The only fair peace talks with Russia and Ukraine are going to be ones in which Russia can't claim new territories (ones from 2014 and onwards) and any political ultimatums (like forbidding Ukraine to join NATO or EU).

The problem is, they're walking a thin line. Overtly speaking of sending troops there in any capacity, never mind actually sending troops, and much less actually providing air support and firepower, can be political suicide in countries where russophile conspiratorial morons gaining power is no longer far-fetched - and we are speaking of the two leading economies of the EU here. If that happens, what EU leadership is doing now will look positively amazing in comparison.
