Discussion I think I’m getting addicted

i’ve been taking my brothers prescription dextroamphetamine and using it recently. i don’t have adhd or narcolepsy or anything for reference. it’s all i think about, i haven’t been able to go a day without it for a while. is an addiction to dexies actually intense, or is it like a “real” addiction? idk it doesnt feel like it

Definitely getting addicted and it can turn into a more real addiction if not careful. Why did you take it in the first place?

Are you stealing this from him? I'm not saying this to shame you because my brother was my roommate for a decade and he had a large drug collection that I would steal from. That made the addiction problems significantly worse for me since it came with intense shame. When you add this element of shame things get really destructive REALLY fast. If you are, it's very important you stop digging yourself a deeper and deeper hole.

Second, I personally think very very few people should actually be on this stuff. I don't for a second believe the pharma companies when they talk about it being a safe and necessary treatment and I take every person who says they need it with a massive grain of salt. I used to say that same thing. "I need it" was never true but once i got used to taking it, you're damn right I needed it. I've cut myself off and you damn well better believe that just about every single task I have to do feels like climbing Everest. I convinced myself and doctors I had ADHD when in reality I lacked discipline.

I started at 15 or so and there was no greater gateway drug on the planet. Adderall is no fucking joke and the second you start doubling your dose to get the extra boost you are in a lot of trouble. I never saw a future of me smoking meth but here we are and it would never have happened had I not gotten a taste of a high Adderall dose.

You came here because you sense you have a problem. Good on you for seeing it earlier. I highly suggest you stop. Cold turkey is just fine and is in fact the recommended method for amphetamines. Good luck to you and reach out if you need anything. I'd love to hear your life gets on a better path than mine

Same. Was put on Adderall at 10 yo and my insurance got cut at 18 and then went to full blown iv meth addiction for like 14 years. 4 months sober.

Oh man. I somehow have stayed completely away from slamming despite breaking every single other moral I even had while high. Congratulations on 4 months. I had 4 months going until Wednesday and managed to fly into psychosis 24 hours after picking up. Luckily ran out Friday night and will now be going full steam ahead into every theraoy avenue I can find.

Big Pharma needs to get an ass whooping in the courts for the decades of destroying millions of people.

Right.. it’s too bad they have all the politicians in their pockets (in the US anyway). Several laws & regulations give pharmaceutical companies legal protection & immunity from liability. It’s bullsh*t.

That’s awesome 4 months is amazing. I’m diagnosed add/adhd. Was addicted to adderall all throughout my 20s, and abused it. Quit for about 7-8 years, then my adhd symptoms were not manageable and I started taking it again. But didn’t have any desire to abuse— was only taking between 20-30mg per day. Although I think it led to my real problem now, coke. Almost every day. Finding it’s a lot harder to quit too.. :(

I used to abuse adderall and use a lot of coke. I now am trying to moderate adderall - how were you able to moderate after previous abuse?

Get that outta your head. How many people are hopelessly addicted to nicotine even though it's very mild?

Meth Is certainly on another level, and if you have issues with prescription stims I would recommend you stay away.

There is no "real" addiction tho. Shits different for everyone and no matter what your addicted to, your still addicted.

Is taking 20 hydros worse than 5 oxys?

The theme with every stimulant though is pretty much, the longer you go without it the easier it is to go without it, every time you use it, the more you want to use it. That's dopamine

Serious or not, compared to other things, matters little. When option A don’t give what you want, you either stop, or move to option b. Most people love to option b. And that may be enough for years to go, or it isn’t, or it is in absurd amounts. The. it continues, the longer you do it, the more you break down your body and brain, the harder it is to recovery. Both deeper down and for longer period of time. And weaker to withstand it all(withdrawal)

As other say, time to stop. Because at some point it’s not under control. If you take from him, there is limits to how much and how often and it’s not enough as you notice.

You can lose decades of your life, everything you own and every person you know. Maybe not from what you use today, but it’s the start.
