Discussion I think I’m getting addicted
i’ve been taking my brothers prescription dextroamphetamine and using it recently. i don’t have adhd or narcolepsy or anything for reference. it’s all i think about, i haven’t been able to go a day without it for a while. is an addiction to dexies actually intense, or is it like a “real” addiction? idk it doesnt feel like it

Are you stealing this from him? I'm not saying this to shame you because my brother was my roommate for a decade and he had a large drug collection that I would steal from. That made the addiction problems significantly worse for me since it came with intense shame. When you add this element of shame things get really destructive REALLY fast. If you are, it's very important you stop digging yourself a deeper and deeper hole.
Second, I personally think very very few people should actually be on this stuff. I don't for a second believe the pharma companies when they talk about it being a safe and necessary treatment and I take every person who says they need it with a massive grain of salt. I used to say that same thing. "I need it" was never true but once i got used to taking it, you're damn right I needed it. I've cut myself off and you damn well better believe that just about every single task I have to do feels like climbing Everest. I convinced myself and doctors I had ADHD when in reality I lacked discipline.
I started at 15 or so and there was no greater gateway drug on the planet. Adderall is no fucking joke and the second you start doubling your dose to get the extra boost you are in a lot of trouble. I never saw a future of me smoking meth but here we are and it would never have happened had I not gotten a taste of a high Adderall dose.
You came here because you sense you have a problem. Good on you for seeing it earlier. I highly suggest you stop. Cold turkey is just fine and is in fact the recommended method for amphetamines. Good luck to you and reach out if you need anything. I'd love to hear your life gets on a better path than mine
