Hot Beef Plates near Akron / Stow?

I moved from the Midwest a little over 8 years ago and haven't been able to get a Hot Beef Plate in the South. I am headed to the National Park this weekend and was wondering if anyone knew of a place that I could get a Hot Beef Plate from near Stow.

I tried to search online and the only ones that were coming up was TipTopStow & Hartville Kitchen Restaurant (30 minutes away).

Any suggestions would be great, preferably russet over red potatoes.

Could probably get a hot beef plate at the inter belt. Might be a little different than what you’re used to.

I'll have my wife go in and scope it out first. 😬

Must be a thing in a different part of the midwest because I have no idea what a hot beef plate is and I've lived here 45+ years.

Hot Beef Plate or Hot Roast Beef Plate is white bread topped with roast beef, potatoes, and gravy. Some people also state it's an 'open-faced sandwich'.

One other redditor stated you all might call it a Manhattan, which I've never heard of it being called this.

Hartville Kitchen, Lukiys, Fred's Dinner, Akron Family Restaurant, TipTop in Stow, Farmer Boy appear to have some variation of what I'm looking for.

I’ve tried to like TipTop in Stow. It’s got that old fashioned diner vibe but the food is awful. Even their toast is bad, the cheapest bread with an oily cheap margarine. It’s always busy there and I’m surprised to see it up and running year after year. They even cater which shocks me. Who hires them?

All this to say, if TipTop has hot beef plates don’t go there.

Old people hate good food

Old people just want cheap food and to be able to sit there for hours bullshitting and clogging up a table.

The amount of people on Facebook that were pissed that Gordon Ramsay had Lyla’s cut breakfast hours because serving people a $5 meal for them to sit there and read the paper/nurse a coffee for 2 hours doesn’t make money was insane. They’re of course bringing back those hours already because apparently they’d rather not listen to people bitch and lose money instead, their funeral.

Not an old person, and I enjoy Tip Top. The food is decent to pretty good (although I’ve only ever had breakfast or salads). It is a bit pricey for the genre. For breakfast, I preferred Isaly’s (haven’t been back since they reopened).

Tip Top is worth checking out. Their classic dinners (roast beef, meatloaf, fried chicken etc) are pretty damn tasty.

If you mean hot roast beef, also known as a Manhattan in Amish Country - with bread, roast beef, gravy and usually served with mashed potatoes, the best one around is Hartville Kitchen or in Amish country! I have heard that Lukity’s Country Inn has it as well, however I’ve never tried it myself.

It also depends if you prefer the chunk or sliced style roast beef. Akron Family, Farmer Boy and Fred’s Diner all have it but with the sliced roast beef, not my personal preferred style.

Definitely giving this a thumbs up.. Akron family restaurant is prob the best, but I hope you like a side of cop with your plate 🤣

Yes, was not aware it was also called a Manhattan, I've only heard Hot Beef Plate or Hot Roast Beef Plate where I'm from (Iowa).

It sounds like Hartville has the best one around Akron.

I'd say chuck is definitely preferred but I wouldn't mind trying sliced if I had too.

Thank you for the recommendations.

That is a regional dish that never really made it this far east. If you take a look at Hartville's option and TipTop's option, I have a feeling neither is going to scratch your itch. They are not the greatest when it comes to quality - Hartville is one step removed from a nursing home cafeteria, and TipTop is just a mediocre diner, both serving more nostalgia than culinary delight.

Personally I would save up for a trip to St. Louis for hot beef, and just go to a reputable restaurant for a quality meal while you are vacationing here.

Akron Family Restaurant would be my top pick. Fred’s diner or Lukity’s are tied for second.

I don’t actually know if Lukity’s has this on the menu but if I had to bet, they probably do.

Looks like Akron Family Restaurant has what I'm looking for and Lukiys has a Roast Beef Dinner variation.

Thank You for the recommendation/s-will look further into them.

Fred’s does too! It’s under their dinners section on the menu. Should say something like roast beef plate.
