They will never top season 1. Never.

Season 1 has some of the best battle animations I've ever seen. Season 2 was really only a disappointment cause season 1 was so good and we were expecting it to be topped.

Season 1 of OPM is my favorite single season of anime ever, near perfect.

Personally speaking, I don't think the second season was all that bad. The first season was simply (for some reason I don't understand) praised as an absolute masterpiece... while it was a fairly average series: fun, well-animated, but nothing special.

If nothing else, it helped make Mob Psycho 100, which is the true masterpiece (in every sense), much more popular.

Still, I don't dislike One Punch Man and I think they will make a good job with this season 3.

The anime and the Murata manga are outstanding from a pure production standpoint. The anime had an all-star line up, and it showed. I would say it was the perfect anime, but the story gets old fast and the character writing is bland and tropey, which is kind of the point, but it's not done anywhere near as well as other series.

It's a masterpiece of an anime, but as a piece of media, it's extremely flawed and overrated, if that makes sense?

Mob Psycho 100 is much better.

You never understood the awesomeness of a bald guy 1 punching anyone with that ost do you?

I do. That's why I watched it. But i watch way too many anime to say One Punch Man is a masterpiece. I mean Baccano, Full Metal Alchemist, Berserk, Made in Abyss, Gintama, Vinland Saga are masterpiece and I don't think One Punch Man is on that level. It got a good starting idea and that's basically it

You realize that one punch man is a gag manga right?

Yes. Gintama is a gag Manga too. Guru Guru (another masterpiece) is a parody gag Manga. I just think One Punch Man is not as good as a masterpiece. I still like it, but I was not disappointed by season 2 because for me it was basically at that level (-a little bit more well animated) as season 1. Since for me it was not a masterpiece from the beginning I was not expecting that much from it in season 2 so I was not disappointed.

“Then, when the consultation for One Punch Man Season 3 came up, I focused on incorporating a new workflow—something I discussed in CGWORLD, bridging 3D and 2D workflows—to squeeze out even one more second of production time. I sincerely apologize for keeping quiet about this. The team is giving it our all on site. I can’t discuss details about the production, but I’m open to answering what I can within limits,”

I shouldn't judge before seeing the results but saying you want to increase production efficiency by bringing in more 3D is really not going to help improve the pre-release reputation of S3.

As someone who doesn't watch a lot of battle shonen - outside of much more sakuga, what would have made OPM S2 better?

OPM seemed to follow a cycle where the cast has to stall the bad guys until Goku Saitama gets there.

I completely tuned out when it started revolving around the heroes' association since those stories always seem to end up with everyone fighting otherworldly monsters or just each other.

What would have broken OPM out of this? Because honestly, it felt like it was mostly propped up by power creep and a lot of "what if this guy fought that guy?"

That's the issue with manga material post S1, it's genuinely not a good story and is mostly gorgeous art and impeccable paneling for fights that have little to no weight to them. It shares a lot of similarities with the Solo Leveling manwha.

I really hope 5-10 years down the line we get a webcomic adaptation so there's less of an emphasis on sakuga and it can tell a character driven story (because ONE is fucking cooking right now)

I know I’ll get downvoted but as a whole, One Punch Man is so overrated. I don’t really see the big deal that it’s not getting top quality adaptations past s1

I think I'll watch the episodes first. I thought this director focus on romance, but he got some action anime in his resume. All the anime I watch directed by him do look good. So I am not gonna doompost. I mean hey, romance anime some times do have one of the prettiest animation lol.

Honestly, I'm just hoping season 3 lives up to the hype. Saitama better be throwing punches like never before

Christ who cares. Dude did some hentai. But deal. Plenty of directors start with porn. Leave him alone omg.

Dude should just stay off social media tbh he really can't win here. JC Staff just doesn't have the talent pool or resources to do an action story on the level of opm s1 at the moment. All it can do is put out mediocre adaptions that keep some folks watching.

It's not necessarily anybodys fault but s1 had a dream team and the production comitee fumbled them in the hopes of accelerating more seasons.
