Scott’s base
I haven’t been to Antarctica in almost 20 years. I was there for several seasons in the early 2000’s and they used to have American night at the Kiwi base (Thursday nights I believe?) Is that still going on? Had some fun nights over there getting on the piss! Haha

American Night is on Thursdays and now it's run via a lottery. Enter your name and if/when you win you get to go over with 1 friend of your choosing. Here's the thing Scott Base doesn't care if you just walk over on Thursday night instead of taking the shuttle.

I don't know about back then, but these days, during the summer American Nights, all the kiwis run and hide from the American invasion. I don't blame them - we're a lot. I think they limit the shuttles nowadays to slow that down a tad. As one of those Americans, all I have to say is... it's not our fault Scott Base has the better candy, different beers, and a much nicer base.

There's a good chance we met. I remember they would try to trick us into ringing the bell and therefore having to buy a round of drinks. One time they had a big chunk of glacier ice and it was so dense we were struggling to chip off small pieces to put in our drinks.

That’s funny. I remember that! But I never rung that bell. I was warned ahead of time about that. I was there from 2003-2005. HEAVY SHOP! Do they still have Hotel California?

When I was there a couple seasons ago, HoCal became the COVID quarantine dorm. I spent Christmas there 🙃
