Nacreous Clouds?
Is there a sub feed anywhere on pictures of these majestic clouds over seasons in Antarctica? (And while I’m asking, is there one for auroras as well?)
Sorry I’m slowly grasping how Reddit works!
I’d so love to see any from this past season or otherwise if folks are interested to share. It’s blowing my mind to imagine what it could be like irl to look at them. It reminds me of when impressionist painting transitioned to expressionism and post expressionism with the pointillists and surrealists and their layered brush strokes that sat on top of each other while seeping through the canvas.
What on this Earth is it like to be under a sky like that??? Holy moly.
Thanks for any images you may be willing to share. 🫶🏼🩵 enjoy your day/night

I’m writing a book
Hi everyone! I’m writing a love story that is going to take place in Antarctica! If you want to be a character in my book or know of any fun ideas that I could add in please share with me (: It’s not going to be super realistic, and I’m not an amazing writer by any means, but more so I write fun and whimsical stuff. Also, there will be sad parts to the story as well so you can share crappy stories too. But I thought it could be a fun discussion! Thanks!

Work Information about South Pole Overland Traverse
Hey everyone, this is my first post here but I was curious what kind of positions typically go out on the Pole Traverse trips that they make from McMurdo to Amundsen-Scott? I did some searches for on the subreddit and it seems like it’s mainly heavy equipment operators? Seems like a really fascinating and unique opportunity and I wondered what kind of experience you needed to be considered or if you ended up getting experience in other positions in Antarctica if you could apply to be part of the traverse?
Thanks ahead of time for any responses!

What’s it like to be in the presence of sunrise after such extenuating darkness? Pics? Experiences to share? Make me feel like I’m there today please.🙏🏼
Today was the first sunrise since October 22, am I right? Was anywhere there to witness it or have you been in Antarctica for this experience previously?
I’m fascinated by the idea of experiencing dark auroral polar night for so long and then, in community, collectively reexperiencing light.
I’d love to hear/see be taken on a journey in words/ on what it’s like to see the sunrise in that particular framework.
If anyone feels compelled to share, I’d so appreciate it. I sense it’s an experience of sunrise unlike any other.
I was thinking of asking my friends there now, but I know everyone is scrambling with Winfly and tying loops getting ready to leave so I thought I’d try posting here for any input on the topic.
I wasn’t sure where to post this. I’m just getting the swing of how Reddit works! I hope this type of post isn’t too “poetic” for this possibly more pragmatic feed. Much appreciated. Enjoy your day everyone.🌅

Is getting tickets 1 month before cruise?
Hello,
I've booked an Oceanwide basecamp trip through antarcticacruises.com agency and can't wait for the trip - super excited!
One interesting detail is that the agency mentioned that I'll get my cruise tickets/vouchers ~ a month before the trip. This is fine with me overall but I just wanted to confirm that this is a common practice - I thought I'll get them right away.
Thank you!

Work EBI Timeline
I received my PQ for summer, winter but haven't heard anything from my EBI background for over 3 weeks.
I'm getting to the point where I'm going to give notice at my work to get a break before leaving but don't want too until I'm 100% going. I am a primary and this will be my first time going down.
Any advice on if I should reach out?

Tourism What is the best way to get the ‘full travel experience’ to Antarctica?
I’ve seen options for cruises that only drive and stay on the sea in and around Antarctica, but I would love to actually get off the boat and travel on foot in Antarctica, and even stay for a couple days on the continent and travel to different areas around it. I know this would probably be really expensive, but can anyone point me to companies that offer this or at least anything similar? Thanks.

A thank you to everyone
I just wanted to thank everyone who helped me out in my last post. If it wasn't for all your messages to shake the ever loving hell out of everyone I'd been in communication with through my hiring process, I wouldn't be going. Now after a vigorous shake and a stressful week everything is good to go. I got in touch with my big boss who lit a fire under the appropriate ass's and my paperwork disaster has been rectified, my contract came through, bridge has been completed and all I'm waiting for is my ticket. A sincere thank you, really, to each and every one of you. I owe all you who helped me out a beer, or at least a coffee. Cheers folks! Here's to a good deployment!

Any chance someone would send me an Antarctic postcard in exchange for an Arctic one?
I’m currently working at an Arctic research station and would be happy to send a postcard from up here to down there! I collect postcards (see my post history lol) and would love to get one from Antarctica. It would probably have to be sent to my non-Arctic address because I’m only here for another two weeks, but I would be happy to send postcard(s) while I’m still up here so that my outbound postcards can make the full Arctic to Antarctic journey. Thanks for reading! :)

Who Is Ethan Guo? The 19-Year-Old US Influencer Pilot Stranded In Antarctica
Ethan Guo was stuck in Antarctica after landing without permission on Chilean territory since June
He was charged for submitting a false flight plan and violating Antarctic access rules
Charges were dropped after Guo agreed to donate $30,000 to a children's cancer foundation
19-year-old influencer has been stuck in Antarctica since June after landing his small plane without permission in Chilean territory. According to the Independent, Ethan Guo was on a mission to fly solo to all seven continents to raise $1 million for cancer research when his journey hit a roadblock. Officials claim he provided false flight plan information, leading to an investigation and charges of landing without permission. Chilean prosecutor Cristian Cristoso also said that Guo violated "multiple national and international" rules governing access to Antarctica and the routes used to travel there.

Music and Bands
I’m flying out of my AOD next week and was curious if it’s possible to join/ form any bands at McMurdo. It’s been nearly 7 years since I jammed with a group but I spent all of high school playing bass in a rock band with my closest friends.
I wasn’t planning on bringing my electric bass with me but if the odds of finding band mates is relatively high then I’d definitely consider it. Throw your opinions at me, this is my first deployment so I’m all ears.

I’m not amazing at drawing, but I did put quite a lot of effort into this, took me about three days if I remember correctly.
