Mexican and Chinese Buffet on the weekends at Poco Loco

Post image

Has anyone been? I think it's relatively new. Mexicans make the best fried rice! They said it's a buffet but they serve you.

Some of those that make tacos, are the same that fry egg rolls

I’ll take one for the team and check it out later today.

Sweet. I was also thinking of swinging by and seeing what's on the menu. I may or may not eat but I can definitely go see since it's out in the open.

I kinda know what to expect. I’ll take photos and report later. I might buy a couple of things, depending on how peckish I feel by then.

I went there around noon on Saturday and the options were fried rice, noodles (chow mein style, I’m guessing), fried salt and pepper shrimp, sweet & sour ribs, and some sort of chicken. None made me want to try these. On the positive side, they had some mini flans that were nice for $1.99

my interest is piqued, but i need someone braver than me to tell me that it’s not terrible before i make a trek out that way.

I know their Mexican food is good, can’t speak to the Chinese food tho

I used to go to a Mexican/Chinese place when I lived in Brooklyn, on 7th Avenue, little walkup to order really great food. This is interesting!

Austin weirdly does not have that many low grade American Chinese buffets. Pretty much every major city has a bunch… except Austin. I guess they just don’t do very well here

Literally my two favorite streets in Austin

Those streets don't intersect

I wouldn't touch the one off airport if I was starving. I haven't been back since I saw something scurrying across the floor out the corner of my eye last year. A couple months before that incident I grabbed some chicken, took it to checkout, and the attendant saw something in the package, made eye contact with me, put it in the trash, and went to get a different one. The eye contact was so weird, like she was saying "why tf would you get meat from here". Never said a word. I felt like I got the hint.

Fair. I've been happy with my experiences at the Airport location so far. I tried going to the one on Ben White but the outside of the building was in really bad shape. Decided to skip that one.

Punch “Poco Loco” into your translator app.

I’ll wait…

Isn't it a grocery store?

u/ifoam 5d ago

Yes but they have a hot bar they serve food from like most Mexican Grocery stores.

(or bodega 🫶)

Yeah, but are there tables to eat out or is this a to go box situation?

Seems like an all around bad time.

They said they serve you at the hot bar and you sit down at the tables to eat so you don't really serve yourself. Think like the buffet at casa Moreno on Ben White. That's actually my preference because that means people aren't touching everything.

Don’t sleep on grocery store food. There’s a small Hispanic grocery store by me that’s super clean and new with a hot bar and the food there is pretty damn good. Punches way above its weight.

El Chino lunch buffet at 5th and Brazos (or Trinity) in 1990 flashbacks.

We are getting a place like this in Tyler, a Mexican and Chinese buffet, in the building that was Red Lobster. Excited to see what it will be and if it will be good.
