It’s amazing that the guy didn’t seem to have to do too much to scare that lion off. It’s hard to see, but it looks like the lion started running off well before the man got anywhere close enough to strike. The vehicles appear to have been closer too the lion then the man was able to get

I think this same tribe hunts by stealing meat from lions..

Its because the lions are not used to things coming after them, so when they are feasting, three tribes man slowly walks towards the carcass and all the lions starting to run..

They think the humans are an other big predator, they have to do it quickly because the lions will check up on the bluff...

Edit: found the video

That would make sense considering how confident the man approached. Not an ounce of self doubt.

Great video! Thanks for taking the time to share with us 🙏

Like taking candy from a baby

u/neotokyo2099 6d ago

I haven't heard this saying since looney tunes lmao

1

u/VidE27 5d ago

Unless you are Montgomery Burns

5

u/Pelanty21 5d ago

I visited a Maasai tribe once. They told us boys only become men (ie qualified to marry) if they complete some challenges, including hunting a lion. Each man of the house has the lions tail/butt as a symbol of his household. Something to that affect.

4

u/TheFuschiaBaron 5d ago

I don't approach the deer in my suburban neighborhood that confidently

3

u/i_dont_do_research 5d ago

This isn't really a bluff though is it? Three men with bows and arrows can't beat a pride of lions but would definitely fuck up most of them to where many lions would die from their wounds and the pride would likely not recover. Even the most rudimentary weapons make humans not worth fighting for other predators.

The leaders of pack animals are just as easy to kill for humans as any other member of the pack. That's why they all run.

2

u/Correct_Recipe9134 5d ago

Isnt it what the reporter says? I just am repeating how I remember it though, so you can be absolutely right.. just remember the similiarities between both videos and thought it was the same tribe.

2

u/i_dont_do_research 5d ago

For sure, just thinking put loud

0

u/OnlyFunction8735 5d ago

So you get that they still meet from Lions from one video from 14 years ago were they most likely set this shit up for views?

8

u/Gnome_Father 6d ago

I guess lions can eat pretty easily. It's not worth getting fucked up with a panga over your Friday evening meal.

10

u/Maleficent-War-8429 6d ago

I remember reading that there is a tribe that hunts lions as part of their manhood ritual type thing. Basically by now the lions are so scared of them at this point that there was a time where a pair of school girls were almost attacked by lions, but the lions fled after seeing their traditional tribal dress.

I can't remember if it is the massai or not who do it though. I've read that whoever it is they aren't allowed to kill lions anymore, but they still go through the motions of tracking them down and all that. I read all this years ago though and I could be completely wrong, so don't quote me.

11

u/Concerted 6d ago

Yes, the Massai right of passage to manhood, also to earn the title of Massai warrior, used to be to kill a lion. But they reap the benefits of tourism and have modified their ritual to not actually kill lions anymore.

3

u/JugdishSteinfeld 6d ago

Former NBA player Manute Bol, from Sudan, allegedly killed a lion with a spear.

6

u/Specific-Tea-4221 6d ago

The lion was trying to dunk on him.

1

u/aussietiredteacher 5d ago

Barkley said this was true but it was sleeping at the time

1

u/anansi52 2d ago

thats not even the most interesting fact about manute bol. to me, the most interesting fact is that he named his son bol bol.

3

u/King_Glorius_too 6d ago

For most animals, a human voice has been shown to be the most alarming sound of all. And there's a very good reason for that.

1

u/S0k0n0mi 4d ago

I'm no Steve Erwin, but I believe lions are actually pretty opportunistic predators. If anything feels even slightly not worth it, they will just bugger off and look for something else to eat. They hunt weak/lame prey, or just steal from others, like hyenas.

42

u/Traffalgar 6d ago

He is a Maasai, they're not scared of Lions.

2

u/raptor-elite-812 5d ago

Rather the lions are afraid of them 😅

1

u/RuMarley 2d ago

Big cats also hate self-confident creatures approaching them aggressively. It confuses them to see that they are potentially the prey and not the predator.

16

u/rockstuffs 6d ago

"You're a crazy man."

"You're a vapid tourist."

209

u/Ronoh 6d ago

A tourist telling a local how to live their life.  Yikes.

52

u/highoncharacters 6d ago

People love spouting cliches any chance they get lol. She just remarked "you are a crazy man" and chuckled. Where did anyone get "telling a local how to live their life" from this?

2

u/ghidfg 4d ago

from her shouting "you are a crazy man".

4

u/lehbot 5d ago

Yep arrogant tourists that don't know anything about life as it could be without supermarkets

-45

u/Many_Claim_6938 6d ago

She sounded very American....God damn it lady this is why people hate us

41

u/TheGreatTao 6d ago

That accent didn't sound one bit American to me.

5

u/pooeygoo 6d ago

It wasn't. And the other person saying "they hate us" is meant to give immunity to criticism which is very annoying

1

u/BaskininRobins 6d ago

There was a video of a girl and a guy. The girl said something along the lines of "the moon is bigger than the sun"

The comments were talking about how stupid Americans were. She had an Aussie accent, and their flag was in the video. It was really ironic

-20

u/Many_Claim_6938 6d ago

Yea I would not claim her either but here we are

19

u/ventitr3 6d ago

Claiming a non-American as American for performative flogging on Reddit?

-2

u/Many_Claim_6938 6d ago

Yes? You're welcome!

14

u/Excellent-Baseball-5 6d ago

Not too good with accents, eh?

16

u/big_gov_gon_getcha 6d ago

Accent doesn't sound American

5

u/Daddysu 6d ago

Lmao. Have you ever heard an American accent? Like, I pretty sure she even speaks in a different language at one point.

1

u/Advanced-Nobody-488 6d ago

It's portuguese

1

u/NinjaCompetitive6003 5d ago

She sounded definitely Brazilian

1

u/Son-Of-A_Hamster 5d ago

No, you are the reason people hate us

0

u/stevenette 6d ago

Lol, you don't get out much do you?

-10

u/Ronoh 6d ago

There are many other reasons why people hate Americans but by the sound of her, i wpuld bet she embodies many of them.

12

u/Used-Helicopter2024 6d ago

Cameraman ain’t worth two dead flies 🪰🪰

73

u/UnkleStarbuck 6d ago

"that craaaazy man"

No, if anybody's crazy, it's the B talking

10

u/Vex_Torin 6d ago

My guy running like Batman in a mission to captured lion.

8

u/kleosailor 6d ago

First I was going to ask why would he bother chasing off the lion if the cow was dead? Why not let the lion finish it's meal?

Then I read the comments and I realized that this man probably needed that cow to feed his family. So I can totally understand why he did it. I love reddit university

4

u/-Datura 6d ago

In most parts of Africa livestock is used as currency too. Also for status.

In south Africa, for exampe, Labola is still a very important custom.

From google: "Labola," also spelled Lobola, refers to the traditional South African marriage custom of a groom's family paying bridewealth to the bride's family, often in livestock or cash, as a symbol of gratitude for raising the bride and a sign of the groom's capability to provide for a family.

I lived in Mozambique for a few years. If you hit and kill a goat with your car you are in for an interesting week of meetings with elders and shit bartering for a fair price for that goat. You don't even get to keep the thing.

Don't fuck with livestock in Africa even if you are a lion.

2

u/Fultium 5d ago

Yeah indeed, was wondering the same. But it's their food and most likely highly needed.

0

u/NeverNice87 5d ago

23.000 Lions left in the Wild. 1.5 Billion Humans in Africa. Yes totally acceptable to steal food from almost extinct Animals.

-2

u/wukwukwukwuk 6d ago

How would he know the cow was dead, he arrived on foot.

3

u/kleosailor 6d ago

Idk it looks pretty dead to me. A live cow would probably still be trying to struggle for it's life.

1

u/SR9-Hunter 5d ago

Depends, its far away from him, and he has to defend its his property..

-7

u/runningvampire 6d ago

his fault for being too stupid to earn money.

but downvote away because I expose your noble savage myth

4

u/kleosailor 6d ago

your comment history says a lot about you...

15

u/Hendrix6927 6d ago

Lion wanted no beef from that man.

9

u/UnprovenMortality 6d ago

Technically it was his beef though

2

u/Hendrix6927 6d ago

True. All we know is that the lion had the beef first. I can't assume it was the mans beef. Could have been anyone's beef.

55

u/Virtuous_Malevolence 6d ago

Bet he loved that those guys just sat there and filmed.

32

u/Xi547 6d ago

What are they supposed to do tho lol.

Provoke the lion? The lion does not concern itself with white people shit.

5

u/Virtuous_Malevolence 6d ago

Not sit around acting like they're filming a nature documentary while watching a predator kill someone's livestock?

Dude went at a lion with a machete over a cow. It's clearly his livelihood, he's not going to be happy people were there who did nothing but watch, regardless of whether they could actually do anything or not.

25

u/Xi547 6d ago

I'm pretty sure the tourists are not to involved themselves with the wildlife in any way in these safaris.

2

u/blloop 6d ago

I love how this conversation is starting to get convoluted even though the topic is simple.

1

u/MarteloRabelodeSousa 5d ago

It's a cow that belongs to a person, it's not really "wildlife", it's not a zebra or something like that.

But yeah, I wouldn't interfere either

1

u/Xi547 5d ago

The lion is the wildlife...

1

u/Solid_Explanation504 6d ago

Wanna get mauled over some random cow ?

1

u/Vemendu 6d ago

You were asked "what were they supposed to do?", and instead of answering you deflected with what they shouldn't do. Still didn't say what they should've done

1

u/blaghed 6d ago

Doing nothing is doing something

1

u/Vemendu 5d ago

Still not answering the damn question. What woud you want them to do? Die for a cow?

1

u/blaghed 5d ago

Me? Nothing. I don't agree with the blowhard that thinks the random people should have done something about the freaking lion. See a lion eating a cow? Stay still and hope you're not next...

1

u/MisterSquidz 6d ago

You might actually be fully regarded.

0

u/Ingeneure_ 6d ago

But they have… cars

1

u/ExoatmosphericKill 6d ago

There could be black tourists there too? Tf?

0

u/dry_complimentary 6d ago

white people shit? does it with blacks shit?

1

u/Buckets-O-Yarr 6d ago

I'd be willing to bet he was notified by the drivers/guides in the car in the first place, so yeah, in my equally speculative scenario he probably is glad they were there to tell him.

1

u/dr3adlock 1d ago

Lions tend to crush their victims windpipe asap so it was likely already dead despite still showing signs of life.

-8

u/runningvampire 6d ago

His people only get welfare in the USA.

3

u/--Mothman 6d ago

This is some openly racist shit.

5

u/Hallow_76 6d ago

That's the persons families meal for the next 4 to 5 months. I would do the same.

5

u/empire_of_the_moon 6d ago

I had a friend who was Maasai. He only carried a short spear, knife and flashlight.

He could effectively control (within reason) any animal encounter except one: hippos.

After watching him scare off an ornery Cape Buffalo with the flashlight I asked him what he would do if we are between a hippo and it’s water.

He deadpanned “we will die.”

Lions weren’t even on his list of animals that he is concerned about.

I hope whatever world is next that I get to see him again. He was a good friend and a kind man.

good bot

8

u/KungFuJosher 6d ago

"Yeah you better run. Thank yous all for help btw"

4

u/Unique_Driver4434 6d ago

If that is his cow, that could be his entire livelihood and this sheltered woman is like "You're a crazy man lol."

That's like the equivalent of her losing her job but worse since he can't just get another cow if he's poor.

3

u/Gym_Rat222 6d ago

City People just have no idea. Their complete ignorance to the laws of nature is astounding.

2

u/Gsquatch55 6d ago

Maasai are part of the wildlife too

1

u/NeverNice87 5d ago

They are part of the Problem. 23.000 Lions left in the Wild and 2.100.000 Maasai people.

Imagine its their Ritual to kill a Lion. That would mean no Lion left on this Planet. Yes good idea to let them do their thing. Dont protect the Wild life. We are not enough Humans on this Planet. We need MORE!

1

u/Gsquatch55 5d ago

If only the maasai killed the lions then they wouldn’t even put a dent in the population, it’s human encroachment, poaching and idiot Americans with more money than sense that go to bag a lion for their trophy collection. The maasai with a spear is not the problem even if everything else I said is bullshit.

1

u/NeverNice87 5d ago

You have a big Math problem...there are 2,1 Million Maasais and only 23000 Lions! The Maasai can pretty much completely wipe out all Lions on this Planet.

The Maasai have been largely stopped from killing lions through conservation efforts and cultural shifts, such as the Lion Guardians program.. otherwise we wouldnt have any left. The Government had to step in. They are a Problem.

1

u/Gsquatch55 5d ago

You have a massive logics problem. The number of lions is currently less than the Maasai because of other factors that contribute to killing lions as well as Maasai. If only the Maasai killed lions throughout history then there still wouldn’t be a problem. Mankind is a cunt, Maasai are just doing what Maasai have been doing since the beginning. If mankind wound its neck in and stopped raping and pillaging the planet of its beings and resources then a Maasai chasing off a lion or killing a few wouldn’t even be worth the conversation.

2

u/geedeeie 6d ago

Too late for the cow, I'd imagine

2

u/[deleted] 6d ago

You're the crazy one travelling accross the world, sitting on a high chair and judging how people live.

2

u/IllEntertainment3522 5d ago

L camera can't even figure what happened

2

u/IGB_Lo 6d ago

He’s a bit too late unfortunately

1

u/Porcpc 6d ago

John West, goes through worst to bring you the best

1

u/C011i3 6d ago

I know that guy, he fears no one.

1

u/njan_oru_manushyan 6d ago

Woman: “ you are crazy man” Maasai: “ whatever”

5

u/DodgeDemonRider 6d ago

I heard “Shutup” 😅

1

u/DummieThic-Cheetos 6d ago

Are they just touring on that man's farm land?

1

u/Gumpa69 6d ago

I dont get why so many got triggered by calling someone crazy for running against a lion?

1

u/Medium-Turquoise 5d ago

Right? And also, have people really never heard the word crazy being used in a non-pejorative sense before?

1

u/cheezymc4skin 6d ago

Didn't see him attack anything

1

u/naboavida 6d ago

It had to be a Portuguese complaining…

1

u/TheCastusDildo 6d ago

When does he attack the lion?

1

u/Adept-Lettuce948 6d ago

Did he spear the irritating woman?

1

u/Scarbolusitano 6d ago

“O que é que ele vai fazer??”

1

u/cruiserman_80 6d ago

Visited the Serengeti a few years ago, including a Maasai village. Within five minutes of our guide, confidently telling us that the Maasai were no longer allowed to kill lions preying on their cattle, I had a tribesman trying to sell me lions teeth for USD$20 each.

1

u/HastySlug 5d ago

They know each other...

1

u/Ok_Bat839 5d ago

Seemed like trouble could be brewing when he was called 'crazy'

1

u/MSotallyTober 5d ago

”Get off my lawn!”

1

u/raptor-elite-812 5d ago

Imagine this same sight, 300k years ago, the first human hunting parties running at you with their spears, the animal outruns them, but they keep coming, till it gets no breath left. Humans had a hell of courage, while not having much else.

1

u/outofnowhereman 5d ago

Kill the cameraman

1

u/Agreeable_Raisin2184 5d ago

You said, "Maasai?" His whole lineage is nothing but lion killing. Ain't no lion messing with the Maasai.

0

u/NeverNice87 5d ago

Yeah cool dudes.. there are 2.100.000 of them in Africa and only 23.000 Lions. Yed let them do their thing and completely Exterminate all Lions on this Planet.

1

u/hdubfour 5d ago

The Maasai don’t kill lions for sport, like some white folk love to do. Only out of necessity.

1

u/NeverNice87 4d ago

Its part of their Manhood ritual.. definitely not necessary lol

1

u/Agreeable_Raisin2184 5d ago

If what you're trying to say is true, then there wouldn't be any lions left. Long before you and I would know anything about lions. The Maasai people didn't just pop up recently. There's centuries old of the two coexisting. I'm pretty sure ancient Maasai people had deep respect for lions and carried on that tradition of respect throughout generations.

1

u/RealJustCallMeJohnny 5d ago

"O que é que ele vai fazer?"

1

u/evanstential 5d ago

the tourist suck. In buddy yard filming him

1

u/BB_squid 5d ago

Poor cow is probably not going to survive

1

u/SpecialIdeal 5d ago

the lions are probably conditioned to be afraid of those tribesmen. how many generations has this been happening? im all but certain a dude with a spear could probably kill a lion one on one.

1

u/HarlequinRasbora 4d ago

Fun fact... there are way to many cows in the masai mara now that the communities get money from the lodges and no longer need to trade in cows...

1

u/Clousu_the_shoveleer 4d ago

"It's my fuckin livehood woman"

1

u/S0k0n0mi 4d ago

I love how african tribe people just treat lions like annoying cats, like how we get mad at our housecat for stealing a bit of chicken off our plate.

1

u/Sleep-Charming 3d ago

that's courageous af!

1

u/TheGreatHumungous 3d ago

Maasai don't play.

1

u/RuMarley 2d ago

Ah yes, how much the hunters hate becoming the hunted.

1

u/Agile_Gain543 1d ago

rich tourists are filming.

-14

u/InquisitivelyADHD 6d ago

Poor Lion got jipped out of his meal.

Humans getting mad at animals for doing animal things.

10

u/SuperbLlamas 6d ago

If a predator killed and ate one of your animals, you… wouldn’t be upset?

-1

u/Tallicaboy85 6d ago

So the lion should starve?

14

u/SuperbLlamas 6d ago

No, let’s feed him YOUR livestock!

-5

u/cookiesnooper 6d ago

Upset? Yeah. Would I chase a fucking lion? Fuck no

4

u/DodgeDemonRider 6d ago

You haven’t seen how difficult is life. Man got to provide for his family. Grow up, maybe!?

2

u/SouldiesButGoodies84 6d ago

There's a long history between the Maasai and lions giving them a wide berth. Worth a search.

1

u/Natemophi 4d ago

If you were born as a Massai you probably would chase the lion

2

u/Maleficent-War-8429 6d ago

Normally I see people complain about the inhumane treatment of farm animals, but complain about protecting them from being eaten alive is a new one.

2

u/Ochemata 5d ago

You realise humans are... also animals, yes?

-10

u/Icy-Squirrel6422 6d ago

They seem to get a kick out of watching someone eat someone alive. Otherwise, why didn't they chase the lion away themselves? You could have just honked your horn. This is complete nonsense.

13

u/Pizza_Slinger83 6d ago

It's nature

11

u/BritishBoyRZ 6d ago

You're delusional lol. Definition of an arm chair warrior

1

u/DummieThic-Cheetos 6d ago

Even the farmer came with a weapon lol. What were the people in the car going to do with a horn?

0

u/SouldiesButGoodies84 6d ago

...did the cow make it? 🥺 It just needed some sutures and alot of recovery rest....right? /s

-13

u/riedmae 6d ago

You fucking sat there and watched another animal be eaten alive? That's fucking horrible. Yeah, nature is nature, but just chillin there watching the most brutal death imaginable is un-fucking-hinged.

11

u/TRDPorn 6d ago

You must hate nature documentaries

5

u/Doomscroller3000 6d ago

Bro just discovered nature

Wait until you find out about sharks

3

u/damaszek 6d ago

Or Orcas playing with baby seals

-2

u/[deleted] 6d ago

And let the tiger die off hunger? Why are you biased towards cows?
