  • "Baking Advice Needed", if you're asking for advice you should use this flair and submit required information in a timely manner. intentionally frustrating the community is grounds for post removal.
  • "Recipe Included", recipe must be provided at time of submission of post. A quick comment after posting is also permitted but not preferred.
  • "Seeking Recipe", if you're looking for a recipe, please use this flair.

The following lists each post flair and a short description guiding it's usage:

Baking Advice Needed - ask for advice, submit required information in a timely manner, intentionally frustrating the community is grounds for post removal. There are many advice flaired posts where a recipe isn't needed (flair: Baking Advice Needed) (egs. cheesecake cracking, gift ideas, decorating technique, ...). If a recipe is required to give advice then give the recipe. All advice request posts must have the Baking Advice Needed flair. No making a "No Recipe" flaired post asking for advice, please use the Baking Advice Needed flair to ask for advice. Not all Baking Advice posts require a recipe, egs. cheesecake cracking, gift ideas, decorating technique, ... However if a recipe is required to help give advice, then please include relevant details so that advice may be given.

Recipe Included - recipe must be provided at time of submission of post. A quick comment after posting is also permitted but not preferred.

No-Recipe Provided - Intended to be a safe space for those who do not wish to share (or are unable to share) their recipe. Harrassment free zone. No asking for advice here.

Seeking Recipe - if you're looking for a recipe, please use this flair.

Recipe to be posted soon. No guarantees. - Self-explanatory

General Baking Discussion - Catchall for most of the baking related stuff that doesn't fit into the other categories

Business and Pricing - Self-explanatory. Was created to satisfy the growing need for discussion of commercial baking, baking industry, baking career questions, etc. Also, for pricing questions to be filterable via flair.

Semi-Related - Self-explanatory.

Unrelated - Self-explanatory.

Baking fail 💔 - Self-explanatory.

Meta - Generally to be used for discussions about or relating to the r/baking reddit community.

Please report any flair that is clearly misapplied or incorrect, please keep in mind the overlap among some flair.

Baking Drama 🔥 Rule Reminder: No Recipe flaired posts

1.0k Upvotes

We have continued to see a pattern of users harassing OPs on posts flaired “No Recipe” by demanding recipes, ridiculing the OP for not sharing, and generally behaving in ways that do not belong in this community.

To be clear:
This behavior is against the rules & it is exhausting for the mod team. It has to stop.

No one owes you their recipe & recipes are not required in this sub. Respect the OP's choice not to share and just move on. Because of the work you are making for the mod team--and you know who you are--we are moving towards banning repeat "No Recipe" flair rule offenders.

A reminder of the No Recipe flair rule: If a post is flaired "No Recipe," you

  • may not ask for the recipe
  • may not ridicule, harass, or bully OP for not providing the recipe
  • may not vaguely post about how awful people are if they don't share a recipe

If you would like to see r/Baking with "No Recipe" posts excluded, here is a link for that.

If you would like to see r/Baking with only "Recipe Provided" posts shown, here is a link for that.

It’s disappointing that we even have to say this. The baking world should be generous, encouraging, and kind — not entitled or mean-spirited. We created this rule because people were being terribly harassed, and frankly, it's disheartening to see that continuing.

Please do better. Follow the flair, follow the rules, and above all, be respectful. It makes a difference.

Recipe to be posted soon. No guarantees. Made a food coma unicorn cake for my coworkers birthday but it came out so messy 😭

It seemed like everuthing that could have gone wrong went wrong. The unicorn’s tail broke off this morning, the cake is lopsided, the colors look atrocious, and I couldn’t frost the cake neatly

The only thing I have going is that the funfetti is actually really good and it sorta looks silly/charming?

Am I overthinking this?

Whyyyyy? How? Does it make the cookies for me? I would love recommendations for your favorite sets. I’ve never had one that didn’t stick or get stuck but I hate shaping by hand.

No-Recipe Provided Proud of this one

Pretty proud of this attempt. I'm a hobby baker and always wanted to make this design for my dad. Been fighting tremors and the heat all moring and the piping bag popped on me, but it doesn't look half bad. Also, nothing on this cake is chocolate and everything is coloured brown. Vanilla and passionfruit are my dad's favourite flavours and he adores gummies. He directly stole a worm when he saw it 😂

I used Sally’s red velvet cake recipe (my personal fave) and made my own cream cheese frosting (just eyeballed it) with more powdered sugar for stability.

Made for my friend’s birthday celebration!

The letters and bees were made using silicone molds. I used yellow candy melts. For the gold and the pearlescent wings I painted with vodka + luster dust (gold and pearl white colors). For the black on the bees I used melted cocoa butter and chocolate food coloring. The legs and antenna were piped on!

I frankensteined a few recipes together for this, I've recently fallen in love with doctored-up box mixes so I used this vanilla box cake cupcake recipe (no modifications, just baked it longer in cake pans) + this lemon blueberry cake tutorial/recipe for frosting etc.

Decorations are just blueberries, tiny lemon slices, and basil leaves from our garden.

Recipe Included The entire confection! Matilda cake

We made the Practical Peculiarities (recipe on youtube) imagining of the cake from Matilda.

It is ugly, but moist and rich. The recipe was easy to follow and didn't require dragging out a mixer. Everything came together with a whisk. It was supposed to be 4 layers (2 thicker 9 inch cakes split) but our cake pans weren't tall enough so we used 3 shallower ones and didn't split them. The cake is so heavy! I almost dropped it multiple times.

I realize it’s not perfect. But it’s my first cake ever!

Made it for my step-kiddos birthday. He’s into legos AND has been really into the idea of doing mountain rescue lately. So I got him a little rescue Lego man and then had him helping out a precariously positioned construction dude.

Tips are welcome!

Triple chocolate cake ✨ from Sally’s Baking Addiction. Recipe will be in a comment because I can’t link here.

  • 9 1/2 oz gluten free flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking soda

  • 3 flax eggs
  • 1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp organic sugar
  • 1/4 cup + 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 5 Tbsp dairy free butter, melted & cooled
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup + 2 Tbsp applesauce
  • 1 1/2 cup cored granny smith apples, peeled & diced
  1. Grease and parchment line and 8-inch square cake pan. Preheat oven to 325F.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder + soda, and if using, xanthum gum. Set aside until needed.

  4. Add melted butter and combine. Then add applesauce and vanilla. Whisk to combine.

  6. Add to prepared cake pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown, rotating halfway in.

This is a VEGAN recipe, enjoy ❤️

I found these caramel Hershey bars in the clearance section and thought, those would be so good in brownies. I was correct, these are so good!

I don’t eat eggs, eggless brownies are hard. This has been my go to brownie recipe. I just switch up the additions. I didn’t use Oreos, but added the chopped up bars. I also doubled the recipe because I share and I need a bigger batch to do so

No-Recipe Provided My mum made this birthday cake

Chocolate Joconde imprimé mousse cake with chocolate, raspberry and caramel mousse, topped with a raspberry gelee

My mum has been baking for pretty much all her life (definitely over 45 years), and we’ve been enjoying watching various bake off shows for the last few months. She’s always made incredible desserts, but we thought the next step for her baking was more “show stopper” looking desserts, so instead of a typical birthday cake we would’ve made, she tried her hand at a mousse cake!

It was absolutely delicious, a few tweaks for if we do it again but it tasted wonderful. Pretty much just a mash up of a few different recipes she found online, and she combined them into this. There are some impressive bakes here so hopefully this is welcome :)
