I am an adult dancer who has been doing ballet recreationally for about 4 years now.
I have been on pointe for 2 and have tried everything from Bloch to RClass.
I have wide, high profile feet that aren’t archy but VERY compressible with very flexible ankles.
I either get fitted too wide and sized up a bunch to the point where once I break the shoes in a little bit - I sink. I have had shoes that caused my entire pinky toes on both feet covered in a giant blister.
I love pointe. I think it’s beautiful and it’s something I really aspire to be great at.
That being said, I wanted to try the act pointe shoes and talked to my teacher about them and she allowed me to order and try them out. The idea of a shoe that would last longer and I can customize to fit my inconvenient feet better and not cause so much pain.
Side note - I got them during the sample sale but still paid over $180 plus $80 on import duties to the US.
My first thoughts on the Act Pointe Shoes:
The shank is EXTREMELY difficult to get into the sock of the shoes. It took me and my partner about 15/20 minutes of messing with them to get them in the sock.
I can get over them pretty easily and they feel very comparable to an actual pointe shoe in some aspects.
The tip of the shoes definitely look a little strange. They almost flare up at the ends and it doesn’t look the greatest.
With my wide and compressible feet, I can already tell I’m sinking in these a little bit as well but this was just from a test. I didn’t use any padding and didn’t tape the toe box yet due to limited tape and not being fitted yet.
If you are in the US, you can’t get fitted for these before trying. They had a size fitter online to check your sizing to UK sizing and I ordered what they told me to get. I have a feeling I will need to size up and I am afraid of the exchange process.
When scheduling for a fitting, I was looking at getting my fitting done between 2 am and 5 am Monday -Friday for the next 2 weeks as the only open availability.
I do actually like the compressible sock and it helps me feel like I’m not going over the box or I’m straining my ankles.
Definitely some pros and cons and I’m hoping my fitting will clear up some issues and concerns I am having already.
Anyone else have issues with their feet like mine? The best shoes I have had were the RClass CL70
