BTS World Be honest: What was your ‘I’m officially in too deep’ moment as an ARMY?

For me, it was when I started memorizing fanchants… then next thing I knew I was crying at 3AM watching old Bon Voyage episodes. I wanna hear yours! When did you realize BTS had taken over your life? 💜💜💜

When I was late for work because I was sitting on my bed watching and rewatching the NMD dance break - Hobi focus (youtube) instead of getting ready. Not once but multiple times.

22

u/JMGR19 23d ago

Honestly, being late for Hobi is just being early for happiness. Priorities.💜💜💜

Do I basically have this memorized? Yes. Did I click on it immediately? Also yes.

I discovered j-Hope on TikTok be cause of the killing it girl dance. This was 6/26. From 6/29 to 7/29 I watched 572 BTS videos on YouTube alone. Not counting Disney Plus and TikTok.

Hahah this is so real. Welcome to the fandom!! 💜 Your story is so relatable because my fall down the rabbit hole was equally such a whirlwind that I can't even pinpoint a moment in time when I claimed myself an ARMY. Discovered them, inhaled all their content and bam, a month or two later I felt like I knew virtually everything about them. Dizzying and fun!

10

u/Ashamed_Apple_ 23d ago

I still don't claim I'm ARMY cause I don't deserve it yet. But I'm so grateful that ARMY held them down through all the hardships and struggle and their military service. If not for ARMY I wouldn't have known these men.

u/zikachhakchhuak easily impressed and very supportive 23d ago

Aww I wish you wouldn't think that way. I'd say there's no standard requirement but if you love all seven boys and enjoy their music, you're an ARMY. I really hope you enjoy this journey with the boys. You arrived at such a happy time. It feels like we're celebrating every day these days.

7

u/Ashamed_Apple_ 23d ago

I know. I feel so lucky that I didn't have the deployment era. But still they were busy omg. This was the cause of my confusion/interest and why I started learning more about them. Because how can a group that was pretty much separated for 2 years keep their fan base so engaged? I had to find out lol I was nosy

2

u/pastagurlie still with you .. 22d ago

It's because their music makes us feel seen, included, like we were and are always part of their journey. 😉

9

u/OnefortheLaughs 23d ago

You're ARMY if you want to call yourself that and if you respect the boys and their work. That's all that is needed to be one!

5

Thahk you ❤️

Hey, you’re ARMY. Claim it.

u/rainbow84uk 23d ago

Excellent work! I got into them this time last year via Are You Sure?! and other variety content, and tried valiently to hold off the growing obsession by not listening to their music.

I finally gave in and started listening in mid October. By December 4th when my Spotify Wrapped came out, every single entry for the entire year was BTS-related.

6

u/Ashamed_Apple_ 23d ago

Yeah I've been listening to their songs while at work lol

Yes I rewatched it yesterday and I think that's why I cried lol when I first watched it I wasn't very familiar with the songs yet. And I also listened to the live album when I drive to work so I was like I need to rewatch the concert.

u/klue07 23d ago

I started with their military discharges and went down a similar path. Watched all the documentaries, Bon Voyage, In the Soop, and working through YT. I'm just glad I get to see their journey in so much detail! I dont feel like I missed out as much by not becoming army sooner!

u/Opposite_Garlic_524 17d ago

Oh, same here! I kinda knew Tae before because of his friendship with my fav korean actor (Park HyungSik). When they were about to be discharged there was such a huge buzz on all the K-drama accounts I follow on Instagram that I was like, “What’s going on?!” 😅 When it finally happened, it got so much attention that it was impossible not to check it out. The vibe and people’s excitement were contagious. That made me curious about why everyone loved them so much. So I started watching some stuff. I think in like a week I had already seen all their live performance videos. I got obsessed. The more I watched, the more I wanted to know them.

I fell in love with how humble and down-to-earth all seven of them are. How devoted they are to ARMY. That’s when I understood why people love them so much. Two months later, I can say I’ve seen a lot already. And it’s amazing because they’ve been putting out content since the beginning, so even as a new ARMY, you can totally catch up with their journey. I also love that this content lets us know them on a personal level, way beyond just the artist. Honestly, atp I don’t even know if I like them more as people or as musicians. 😅 That’s the cool thing about BTS. They connect with so many people, across generations, across nationalities… Over these 12 years, sure, some people left, but they have this unique ability to reinvent themselves so new fans are always joining in.

u/JMGR19 23d ago

Welcome fellow ARMY💜💜💜

So glad you're here looking forward to getting to know you!

u/Intelligent_Sell_266 ça dépend, ça dépasse 23d ago

I think it was when I started spending money to watch live concerts on a screen.

One year ago, the idea of paying to watch a concert I am not able to own on a dvd or even as a video file would have been inconceivable.

But I did it for Hobi and Jin (even bought a membership so I could watch the multi cam version) and will do it again for any concert the group or any member will give in the future.

6

u/rainbow84uk 23d ago

Ha, same! Tbh I'm still horrified at the price of a single livestreamed concert, but I pay it anyway and enjoy them so much.

6

u/Intelligent_Sell_266 ça dépend, ça dépasse 23d ago

Right? Between the price of the virtual ticket and the membership, I spent almost 70 dollars to watch Hope on the Stage.

But I don't regret it at all.

1

u/cotoperi-reads lesser panda 22d ago

This is so relatable! It seems insane, but I've never regretted it.

21

u/zikachhakchhuak easily impressed and very supportive 23d ago

I've shared this before but it was a few years ago when BTS were still super active as a group. I was with a bunch of friends and we were making plans for dinner; I was convinced that I already had plans for the date being discussed. But I couldn't remember what it was. Then all of a sudden it hit me that it was BTS that had the schedule and NOT me 🥲 I had somehow intertwined their schedules so thoroughly into my daily life, making sure I caught as much of them as I could, that I had gotten confused about my own plans. That was a big "damn! I'm really deep in this, eh?" moment for me.

Another thing that has become a habit is if I'm stuck somewhere, having to wait for a long period, and I'm bored with access to a pen and notebook, I'll start listing each BTS album in release order with each tracklist. I started off just trying to not miss any song for each album but have now upgraded to listing the tracks in order 😅 It's a good way to kill time for me but I can definitely see how people would think it's a little much.

Mine, was i set an alarm to make sure i was up for a merch launch. Not once but multiple times. Also, when I cried when they enlisted (Joon, Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook), the other 3 were already in the military. I was late to the party.

11

u/JMGR19 23d ago

You may have been late to the party, but you showed up with a lightstick, tears, and a cart full of merch. That’s true ARMY behavior. 💜😭 Welcome to the chaos!

When I muted myself during a work meeting so I could watch the first OT7 live after military service. There were only four other people in the call, and they definitely noticed me being super distracted - in the end I don’t remember much of either the meeting or the live, but at least I could rewatch the live later 🤣

14

29

u/lormeeorbust 23d ago

I always maintain some level of detachment when it comes to idolising in general. I thought it's healthier that way....until I watched the 9th festa video and I realised I was kidding myself when I said I maintained a healthy boundary.

6

u/JMGR19 23d ago

I totally get what you mean. That video really hit hard and made me realize how much I care. It's okay to feel deeply it's a testament to the bond we share with them.

28

u/HomoCarnula 23d ago

Me: I will watch this concert thingy on Disney because I'm bored.

Me: Hmm... Lemme Google the names.

Me several weeks later, in the midst of a layoff (🫂😭), laying in bed at 1AM my local time: "WHY IS WEVERSE CRASHING, I NEED THIS MERCH DROP OR I WILL NEVER BE HAPPY AGAIN IN MY LIFE"

Also me: "...I might need therapy"

7

u/JMGR19 23d ago

I feel you! I find myself on constant repeat too Permission to Dance on Stage: LA on Disney+ is like a comfort watch at this point. Seriously, every time those opening chords hit, I’m right back at SoFi lights, energy, and our boys just slaying. Makes me wonder if I’ll ever get bored... but nah, why would ARMY ever get tired of it? 💜

2

u/cotoperi-reads lesser panda 22d ago

I feel this! I found them (or they found me) right after a layoff (🫂😭), and they were doing a lot of heavy lifting as my single source of joy!

12

u/further_and_beyond Future's gonna be okay 23d ago

When I understood that I could recognize the members just by their silhouettes, even if I could see only their backs or if they were in masks or hats covering their eyes. As a baby ARMY, I struggled a lot, and I couldn't tell who was who.

In general, I have been quite emotionally invested in BTS. I am much more distant and detached now than I used to be, and although many people would say it's a good and healthy thing, I don't see any meaningful effect from it in my real life. I still go to work, communicate with the same people, and my daily routine or hobbies didn't change, except I am a bit less happy now. How can I go back to my delulu land, please? 🫠

When I binged watch Bangtan TV from the start up to the the latest. The older videos posted doesn't have subtitles but I still watched them even if I don't understand them 😅

Rewatched Run BTS, In the Soop, Bon Voyage multiple times.

5

u/rhythmelia 22d ago

Oh! Go check out Bangtansubs, they have a website and a YouTube channel and I do believe they have done fansubs of the majority of the really REALLY old Bangtantv content! I love them because they do the dialogue, any captions/onscreen things including text, and sometimes they add cultural notes or references as needed.

5

u/sciencespecialist wannabe guest on Bora Bora V Bora 22d ago

Same for me, u/Heytherestairs and u/cotoperi-reads! I had already gone down quite a few rabbit holes obsessively for several months prior to that, but it was that Festa showcase that got me to buy an ARMY membership and get up basically in the middle of the night to watch Jin meet ARMY the day after his discharge. I cried throughout the whole thing. The number of times I've been up during the night to watch them perform since them is actual craziness. I'm too old to lose sleep over Korean men who are 30+ years younger than me performing live, but here we are.

I cried like a baby when I watched the hope on the street mv. I was teary eyed for the most part but what broke the camels back was when hobi and j cole hugged. I've been an army since 2016/2017 lol but idk it just hit me like a truck on how big they became and the incredible things they've accomplished so far (I also really love j cole, so seeing the two together was like a dream come true).

22

u/roseohseven 23d ago

When I set an alarm for 5 am so I could spend $50 for a mini (emphasis on mini) tuna-themed pouch that would take 6 weeks to arrive from Korea. 🤣 Also when I watched Jungkook sleep for like 35 minutes when I was supposed to be working.

9

u/sea_cucumber__3808 23d ago

When I stayed past 4am just to watch Jimin and Jungkook arrive back from the military LIVE. Unfortunately I missed all others because I gave way to sleep, but this time I was determined not to. Also I watched almost all of their lives. Missed some, but overall was there.

9

u/dsvk TOMORROW SPRING!! 23d ago

9

u/cpagali Tomorrow spring 23d ago

I think it was when I was explaining the impact of Yeontan's death among ARMY to my husband and found myself listing all the members' pets, current and former, without having to stop and marshall my thoughts. The only thing I got stuck on was the names of Jin's sugar gliders. When did I even acquire all that info? I couldn't remember. But it was there in my brain.

9

u/cloud_y_days 23d ago

During Festa ‘25, after Hobi's concert, I decided last minute not to attend a friend’s official engagement party and instead stayed with my army friend in a tiny room for more than 12 hours, watching BTS content.

8

u/Bidibooooo 23d ago

I've always been a casual fan of every artist I like (not just music-related), until BTS that is. I realised that even more when I started saving their pics and carefully made a folder for them loll. I've never thought I would do that in a million years.

I am a retired veteran who has issues leaving the house sometimes...and I was lucky enough to get PTD vegas tickets for both weekends. I live in san diego and thought I took on too much with driving up there by myself and going to my first kpop concert alone. I dont want to say I did it all for Yoongi..but kind of? lol

6

u/CrowLaughed 🖤 who else does as much as Min Yoongi? 🖤 23d ago

I wrote in my work (paper) diary Joon, Tae, Jimin, JK and Yoongi’s discharge dates so I could see them when I’d go to add things to my diary and just randomly look at them when I was missing them at the start of the year.

Edit - worded that badly - I added them at the start of the year and used to check it regularly up until their discharge!

2

Oooh hindi lang ikaw! I stayed up in the middle of the night too, just to catch JK, V, Jimin, and RM—worth every sleepy yawn. Millions of us did that during Jungkook’s Weverse live when he actually fell asleep! And then there was that surprise IG + Weverse chaos with all of them together… totally unforgettable. ARMY life, amirite? 💜

20

u/rainbow84uk 23d ago

Ok, this sounds SO weird when I type it out, but it was when I first fell down the rabbit hole and found myself waking up in the morning literally whispering their names 😅

(Full disclosure: I'm autistic, so my brain really, REALLY likes to hyperfixate on things, including sounds it finds pleasing).

5

u/RacheldeVries 23d ago

I get the hyper fixation thing too…. That and the need to try every craft known to humankind….

Pandemic ARMY here, and I have a few "WTF" moments.

  • Used to fall asleep listening to BTS sleepy ASMR.
  • If I was so bored and tired of being alone, I would imagine they were with me wherever I was.
  • Dressing like I was some kinda member of a BTS cult in high school. I'm talking all merch'd out, mang bucket hat, concert shirt, BT21 mask, photocard in the phone case...
  • Making dumb decisions in the stock market... for BTS.
  • Donating plasma twice a week... for BTS.

I have no idea how deep I am or if I'm just plain delusional.

And thanks to Dad's saving and planning, we all went to PTD Las Vegas, hanging from the rafters of Allegiant Stadium, and I turned to her and said, "We're HERE! 😀"

3

u/Nandg1794 op-PA 🙄👆 how are you 22d ago edited 22d ago

It's everything. Like the things I said I wouldn't do, I ended up doing for BTS. Staying up waiting for music to drop, buying albums, merch, PLUSHIES, like I have them everywhere. I drive around with a tangerine plushie on my dashboard. I have so many of their photos, videos, gifs, memes on my phone. I woke up early for their concerts, stayed up for award shows or lives. I don't like large crowds yet I went to their concerts.

When JK did that surprise live back in December, I was driving, I pulled over into a parking lot just so I could watch, same with Yoongi, his last live before he enlisted 😅. When the lives are long, I just listen to it as I drive.

3

u/Saucy_Totchie 22d ago

I flew to Vegas for PTD. That was my first ever concert, not just KPop. I know many people flew from all over the world to go but for me a cross country trip at that time just for a concert was far beyond my comprehension at that point. Glad I did it though because that was an amazing time.

Not sure if this qualifies even though I did get membership, but it might have been spending the most money I have ever invested for any artist or group. The ticket, tour merch, merch and then more money, time & the materials to make concert freebies. All because I wanted an immersive experience with my first BTS anything via Jin's tour.

I was there for a baseball game as well, but this trip had a definite BTS focus.

Bonus: seeing my credit card statements because of ALL THE MERCH.

A year and a half ago. I was already into it and official ARMY from March and down the rabbit hole at that time, but it was evident to my family when I was visiting my daughter and her family and I set the alarm and woke up at 4:30 AM on June 12, 2024 so I could see Jin walk out of the gate at his military discharge. It was all I could talk about that day - that all of the members came to welcome him, RM played the saxophone, and Jin and his military friends all hugged and cried. Then Jin went to the company and hugged all those fans before going home. I was in, all in.

When I bought a pin off Etsy portraying JK in his jacket-button-popping-open phase with the body chains & the ‘I always apply oil’ from PTD. I never buy pins but I love me that one.

I have set my phone alarm at wee hours to join the infamous Purple Whale Hunt on Weverse. And I failed, I never could buy the damn plushie. It still hurts.

I do have a BTS bank account

I started to buy physical albums again, 10 years ago

I have lied to my boss to work from home or skip work on the day of album release.

I'm 47 and I have a Shooky keyring on my bag

Trying out their favorite foods Bibimyeon, Jin Ramyeon. And also, everytime I buy Banana Milk, I can only think of Jungkook 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

I cant believe I spent money on the commemorative bts stamps.

When I got caught outside in a snow storm post house sitting because I needed to watch BTS attend the Grammys and the place I was house sitting at didn’t have the channel but my house did.

The bus I caught had to let me off halfway home because he couldn’t see out the window anymore and the snow was too deep for any uber to pick me up.

My client had offered to let me stay one more night in their guest room to wait out the storm, but I was in too deep and decided to be reckless and head on out in the storm to catch glimpses of the seven celebrities who had no idea I existed on a program I’ve never bothered to watch before 🙃

In the end, my mom (who freaked out when I called her at the bus stop) ended up utilizing the kickass winter package her 2004 Subaru Forester came with and rescued me. 🥲

(Don’t worry, it was the last day of the sit and I was able to leave by that time, I may be crazy but I’m not irresponsible lol)

Oh my gosh. 😂 This is the best story ever! Did you get to watch the Grammys after all of that?

I'm blind, so I realized I was in too deep when I worked hard to memorize all their voices, both singing and speaking.

It definitely wasn't easy, but now I'd know them anywhere, and I still love them as much...more, than I did eight years ago when I became ARMY.

Boys, if any of you are reading this, you still have my heart. Joon, you have a slightly bigger piece, I won't lie!

I Purple you, ARMY!!

Panicking over a illegal live concert stream crashing at 4 AM is when you know, you are absolutely “cooked”.

I checked the Kapital website for months waiting for a shirt Namjoon wore to get restocked, then once it did I had to message a friend in Japan to help me buy it 😅

When I started buying the albums and going out of my comfort zone to a kpop store. I haven't bought a CD in over a decade. But I wanted those photocards and photobooks 😅

I was probably in too deep well before this frantically absorbing music and music related content, but when I was maybe 80 episodes in to Run BTS in a matter of days after discovering it I definitely had a moment like “what am I doing?!” Would recommend. 🥰

As a girly who has been in fandoms her entire life (from High School Musical, Metal bands, OneDirection, Youtubers…) i saw the storm coming a mile away.

I heard I Need U and wanted to know more songs. I saw the Baepsae dance practice and whispered “oh no” as Jungkook smiled back at me. I saw the slope as I was putting the skis on. That was 10 years ago! :)

Mine was pretty basix. I was reading this book and listening to Stay and it just hit hard and then I searched the artist and fell down the rabbit hole.

u/imjsbored160911 22d ago

Was listening to Stay while reading. Next thing I know I'm watching performances by BTS on Boy with Luv and Fire. Mic drop hooked me up and then there's me watching Run BTS after that, their energy sweeped me up. And I'm here now :)

When I cried for a whole fucking week after the dreadful day of the goodbye dinner in june 2022 lmao

I’ve known of and liked BTS from 2017 Billboards Awards and their earlier songs and vids for Not Today, Fire, Mic Drop and Idol. And of course their 3 english songs as very catchy, upbeat and I can understand all the lyrics lol. But I became Army at RM & V’s discharge. Since then I’m making my way through Run BTS (on episode 70), after that I’ll move onto Bon Voyage, Soop. Have watched most of the awards shows and performances and a few episodes of Rise of Bangtan (insightful to see and know where they started and origin stories) need to finish it.

I got Disney for 3 months at cheap rate and watched Monuments, almost finished Are you Sure and PTD concert. Then it’ll be the docs of solo careers of JK, Hobi, Suga.

Reactivated Weverse account, set up alerts and bought digital membership for subtitles as I’m in same time zone so their lives will be at times that work for me.

Bought an Army Bomb and brought it to Jin live concert viewing. Luckily I work from home, as I’ll take breaks to scroll Instagram BTS accounts and watch vids . Another Army gf and I plan to try to get concert tickets next year and fly to venue. And if that doesn’t happen (as demand will be soooo high) at least there’ll be a live concert viewing in my city (think this will become a mainstay now as can reach more Army that can’t get to a concert). So I’m happy about that.

I’m single (can you tell lol) so have more free time to go down BTS rabbit hole. Think it was Jimin who said you’ll find BTS when you need to, which was my case as work was very stressful and some family at that time. So now I’m hooked and Army!

Staying up until 3am trying to watch blurry streams of award shows not understanding anything that was going on 😅 I miss those days!

u/FairZookeepergame610 19d ago

I saw American Hustle Life in 2014 and wanted to rescue them. They’ve been “my boys” ever since.

u/EnvironmentalFig7598 19d ago

I’m so happy to see so many new Army coz I’m one too and I’m still skeptical about calling myself Army coz I feel I haven’t earned it but this is so wholesome 🥹 Two months in, BTS forms nearly 14 hours of my day 😭

I was kinda in a bad phase of life. One day i saw a cat meme where the cat was white but one front leg was stripped in black. And they called it Jungkook (referrence to his tattoos).

Then it was a rabbithole from there. I am still discovering their music but RUN BTS, youtube compilations and learning their personalities!

I also got my bestie into BTS and now we dream of going to their concert (mind you we are in our 30s and live in different countries)

Just looking at these 7 boys makes my day :)

When I couldn't use my phone for 30 hours because of a camp, and I cried myself to sleep when I realised that I wouldn't be able to listen to bts.
