[Langs] Paul Skenes has a 2.02 career ERA. That’s the second-lowest through 50 career starts in the Live Ball Era (1920), behind only: Vida Blue: 2.01

People are ragging on you because this is the most famous fact about Skenes, that he's dating even more famous NCAA gymnast and online personality Livvy Dunne.

I genuinely didnt know that or who she is.

Well on a better note. You're now slightly less horny than the average sports fan.

shes not even a gymnast anymore. She is a hot chick. He's dating a famous hot chick, just like Jeter did with 20+ women.

Famous is pushing it, she’s just an online personality that has gained traction. I don’t think a bunch of people are chasing her like they would normal celebrities.

Why are you people like this? You said something wrong, OP replied with actual proof, instead of saying "oh wow I didn't know", you double down.

I mean those are college kids at the college she was attending at the time, for the sport she competed in.
Pretty typical on campus SEC behavior. A&M had insane volleyball fans when I was there.

Being famous and an online personality are different view points. She’s popular because she’s naturally pretty and went the “influencer” route to get popularity. From what I understand she isn’t even a top gymnasts anymore and is more so there for the online clicks and traction she gets. If people wanna obsess over her for that it’s predominantly those who drool over the internet. I don’t think she is famous, simply because there are others who have 0 clue who she is and that makes sense. Famous people are world renowned and she has nothing on those who are famous for external reasons. Internet personalities can gain lots of traction and being famous to me isn’t entirely correct.

They'll release a bunch of overpowered cards for random players who had a good weekend and then a 6th Nick Kurtz card...

u/Jedi-El1823 New York Yankees 6h ago
What's the problem with giving better cards to a dude who had a good 3 game stretch than to Hank Aaron?
Zod, I remember when they increased the rating scale and said only the elite of the elite would get the high ratings, guys like Babe Ruth, Pujols, Ripken, Bob Gibson, Nolan Ryan, and Tom Seaver, and it was like that for 18 which was the first year, the Finest cards got top of the line ratings as well but those were the best players that season, so reward them with overpowered cards at the end of the cycle. But now those ratings go to anybody.

Skenes' pitching motion is ass though. It's easy to track the ball early because he flashes his glove in the same exact spot that the pitch is coming from

He's also behind Vida on his ability to do large amounts of cocaine.

You guys have good arms. I was impressed with the series that just wrapped up. 3 games of making our entire lineup look like they came from a tee-ball league.
For those who don't know, the Pirates swept the Rockies in a 3 game set where the Rockies scored 1 run in the entire fucking 3 games.

u/abhorentFacts Philadelphia Phillies 10h ago
Can we PLEASE use ERA+ when comparing eras like this? It takes nothing away from Skenes and it more accurately ranks the great pitchers in history.
22
u/aflyingsquanch Philadelphia Phillies 9h ago
Vida Blue's Age 21 season was just utterly ridiculous:
39 GS, 24 CG, 312 IP, 24-8, 1.82 ERA, 183 ERA+, 0.952 WHIP
Worth 9.0 bWAR, 8.8 fWAR.

We still gonna pretend that if you got to pick between skubal and skenes it is super close or we finally gonna admit that the guy 5 years younger with one of the most insane stat lines of all time is the unanimous selection?
65
u/OnlyForBaseball Pittsburgh Pirates 15h ago
I mean, luckily we don’t have to pick. But also, Skubal is the better pitcher in this very moment. Leads in WHIP, SO (& K%), and FIP. Not to mention all his expected stats are lower
Obviously if we’re talking rest of career, my money is on Skenes. But Skubal has been beyond dominant in a way Skenes has not.

They need some ML level pieces on offense badly. They really should explore trading him this offseason for a massive haul of ML ready playerd and try to actually be competitive when Chandler and Barco are likely established MLers in another 2 years.
