Estrada has like a 20 ERA vs the dodgers and a 1 ERA against everyone else

Dodgers broadcast just said 12 runs against us and 8 against every other team

Not sure why Shildt would keep going to him when it seems we have his number

I was fine with him coming out yesterday with the 3 run lead, but to put him in a tie game the very next day after he gave up yet another home run against them in his last outing was just a throw by Shildt.

I am starting to get worried Shildt doesn't know, which would be insane, but I cannot confidently say that he knows and still makes a decision like this.

Honestly I could see the reasoning that there’s a very good chance he’s going to have to pitch meaningful innings against us in October so you might as well build some confidence against our bottom order.

But, apparently it’s backup catchers day at Petco.

Well that plan backfired. I agree with the reasoning, but I don't think this game was that game to do it. With all due respect (and I have a ton for that lineup don't get me wrong) but I like our chances in a tie game in the 7th given how this series has gone, and for this team a 2 game lead vs being tied for the division would be a pretty big difference.

Shildt also seems stubborn bc that man is never, ever going to take Arraez out of the 2 spot. I do not understand it. He never gets moved around or even days off. It’s insane. Even against lefties it doesn’t change

If he doesnt know its bad, if he knows its bad.

I want to make a Dave Roberts joke, but I feel like I am in no position to do so at the moment.

That's absolutely on Shildt

This is like the inverse of Christian Walker.

Love our dumbass skippers mentality of refusing to be wrong about his pen management with Estrada versus Dodgers. It’s fucking infuriating. This allegiance to Arraez at #2 in order no matter will be the end of us.

u/Padulsky21 New York Yankees 7h ago

There’s not even any evidence that Arraez in the 2 spot is good. It makes things worse. It takes away the ability of Tatis to get on base and use his speed. It’d be so different in the 5-9. Teams can easily pitch around Tatis and Manny bc of him there. He doesn’t get on base at a high clip all he does is see a lot of pitches and slap weak contact.

I figured this would happen the second I saw him up in the pen in the 6th, braindead decision by Shildt. 5 of Estrada's 8 homers given up this year have come against the dodgers.

u/NoSkillZone31 San Diego Padres 14h ago

Estrada has been absolutely horrible against the dodgers this year and a large part of the losses. Now 4 of them can be pretty much attributed to Estrada meltdowns.

18

u/biggoldgoblin 15h ago

He’s a little spooked against them but to be fair this was the absolute bottom of the order, these guys reek

1

u/96919 San Diego Padres 6h ago

He's tipping something and they know whats coming. Schildt is too stubborn to admit it and he's going to cost us when it really matters.

1

u/Silver7477 San Diego Padres 14h ago

Yeah but he also pitched yesterday too. Give the man a day to unwind ffs

Padres are getting screwed by their manager today

u/Aggressive_Moose_528 Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

Oh yeah, it’s rush hour

14

u/NanzLo- Boston Red Sox 14h ago

The setup was good, but the execution was a bit… rushed…

54

u/B1GDuckPac Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Miller, Adam, Suarez, Morejon? Nope. Thanks Shildt.

u/sadclassicrocklover Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Literally all dodger killers and he puts Estrada in lmao

18

u/Currimos San Diego Padres 14h ago

I know no manager is perfect and I’m sure the usage of some of those guys over the past 3 or 4 days made them unavailable….but like what the fuck. Oh well. It’s just one game.

1

u/sadclassicrocklover Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Oh yeah good point I didn't think about that

Estrada actually has similar pitching stats to Jason Adam, but Estrada is the one that has gotten killed by Dodgers the most.

Freddie & the Rooks : Taking Back First

16

u/biggoldgoblin 15h ago

Back up catchers actually being useful offensively in my MLB? That’s can’t be…

20

u/OnlyForBaseball Pittsburgh Pirates 14h ago

I mean to be fair, he’s a top prospect. Only reason he’s the backup is because they already have an all star behind the dish

9

u/biggoldgoblin 14h ago

Yeah he’s a top prospect and maybe in another team where he got real at bats he wouldn’t be back up catcher caliber, with Will Smith at C and Freddie at 1B I just don’t know how he fits

9

u/Doctor_Scholls San Diego Padres 15h ago

Why are we bringing the guy who gets crushed by the dodgers in a tie game

36

u/Appropriate-Sort-202 Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

Ball don’t lie! Rushing was so pissed at that dumbass ump for that first called “strike”. Dude was ball as ball can be. Take that, blue.

7

u/NefariousnessRough26 Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Right? Thanks blue for pissing Rushing off.

2

u/GameMusic Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Umpire is waving foul from home plate

27

u/karim_eczema Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

I did not expect that

17

u/AthleticAlarm32 Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

And now Freddie with his second in 2 innings!!

So happy for him

13

u/deelow_42 Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

This might be the last time the Dodgers see Estrada

19

u/Silver7477 San Diego Padres 14h ago

Not if Mike Shildt has anything to say about it

5

u/dang3r_muffin San Diego Padres 14h ago

you don't know mike shildt. he's as stubborn as they come. I love Estrada but he was the last person I wanted to see there

8

u/Salty_Conference_485 Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Backup catchers having their moment in SD today

15

u/dewey711 Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

Our back-up catcher is better than yours

1

u/monkeyman80 Los Angeles Dodgers 10h ago

Ruiz was supposed to be the golden child. Smith just was too good to move and now we have rushing.

4

u/Currimos San Diego Padres 14h ago

Most predictable inning ever. Estrada had struggled against the dodgers all year. No idea why he came into the game at all.

10

u/YaketyMax Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Dodgers own Estrada

3

u/Panzer_VI_ San Diego Padres 14h ago

No shit, he's a childhood fan

2

u/t001_t1m3 Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Check his Bitcoin wallet. He has to be a double agent.

9

u/DaBusDriva2 Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

Using Estrada against the Dodgers is asking for trouble. He's elite against every other team but like a 20 ERA vs us.

9

u/jonpictogramjones Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

estrada and matsui are the two guys I love facing in their bullpen. keep miller and morejon the fuck away from us lol

6

u/yli16 More flair options at /r/baseball/w/flair! 14h ago

Adam is the real trouble. I do not remember the time when Dodgers ever scored on Adam.

4

u/PMmeUR_Harambe_memes Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Admittedly i havent watched many A's games, so I dont know if its always that way, but Miller looked a little on edge facing them at least. Even though it ultimately amounted to no production I like to think in an ever bigger spot it could happen.

I am more afraid of Morejon and Adam than the others in the pen. They've shown they can hit Estrada/Suarez better than most. Why they put him out there in this spot is mind-boggling

2

u/huggsypenguinpal Los Angeles Dodgers 13h ago

I noticed that on Millers face too. I can’t remember if he was used last weekend tho. I think ultimately he settle in these high pressure spots.

I’m not celebrating just yet

1

Honestly I was surprised Shildt sent Estrada out there.

1

u/Iron_And_Misery Los Angeles Dodgers 14h ago

Why didn't the teams start Rushing and Diaz every game. Are they stupid
