Пытанне / Question Vilnius to Minsk?

Hello!

This December I’m planning to visit Minsk. I’m an European citizen; I don’t need a Visa to enter. I’m flying to Vilnius and want to get to Minsk from here and back.

What is the best/cheapest way for me to travel between Vilnius and Minsk, and also what would it cost/how long will it approximately take..?

Bus is the only option. Nobody knows how long it will take, especially in December. Nobody knows if any buses will run at all in December.

December was always the quickest bus journey times for me because not many travel

I used Ecolines, getting through the border took around 3 hours. Make sure you have the health insurance.

How much was it? And why health insurance? I’m going for a day.

The health insurance is an entry requirement...they didn't end up asking for it, but trust me you do not want to be stuck in the no-mans land because you didn't have it. I used bgs.by and it cost me a few pounds.

My bus was from Riga, Latvia...it left Riga at 22:45 and got into Minsk bus station around 07:00, costing £120.

Make sure you print all documents out.

Damn that is pretty steep. £120 for one-way. I’ve found a bus for €50, but even that is not ideal.

Sorry my bad, that was a return ticket.

Oh got it. Wasn’t there a time when tickets were around like €20, though?

No idea...I was literally in Latvia for a week and decided to wing-it. I'm glad I did, it was an amazing experience and the people, food and architecture were amazing.

Sounds amazing mate! What should I do if I go there?

Personal highlights were the brutal KFC (obviously), taking a stroll round the boating lake and Island of Tears, The National Library, bumping into the little mosaics randomly, the subway is beautiful, the food at Kuhmistr was delicious...also got a decent Chest Day in at F1 Fitness (although my card didn't work there or the subway (I bank with Natwest))

Sounds like you had a great time. How much time would you say is enough to spend there?

Hello
As already said, buses are only option from Vilnius. Current costs are around 75 euros one way (yes, they have pretty big prices because there are little amount of licenses on routes). So most cost effective way will be to stay in Belarus longer

About time. If no border it would be 3 and a half hours. So all depends on how much time bus will spend at border. With a bit of luck border can be crossed in 3 hours, so total time may be around 6 hours. But there are a possibility for a bit longer trip (while not very probable due to December and limited amounds of buses in general)

Ask if you have more questions. Good luck
