To my understanding Belarus(Biela Rus') is translated as White Ruthenia, and has been called as White Ruthenia for most periods in history by westerners.
So why doesn't anybody call it White Ruthenia? Is it just because of the USSR or is there some other reason behind it?

Што будзе непасрэдна пасьля сыходу Лукашэнкі? Верагодна хаос, але самога хаосу баяцца не варта, бо гэта натуральны стан. Сусьвет сфармаваўся ў выніку касьмічнага хаосу, як і сама Беларусь сфармавалася ў выніку хаосу 20-га стагодзьдзя. Праблема не ў самім хаосе, але ў тым куды рухацца пры ім. І калі беларусы будуць рухацца хаатычна, бяз бачаньня, то ў выніку можа прыйсьці кіраўнік яшчэ горшы. Бо Лукашэнка - жорсткі, але ён такі - ведае, што робіць. Бадай, што горш за гэта можа быць толькі тупая жорсткасьць. А можа нават яшчэ больш верагодна, што калі хаос будзе працягвацца занадта доўга, то ён можа да таго паралізаваць дзяржаву, што краіна будзе кантралявацца разрозьненымі бандамі, а насельніцтва - галадаць. То бок, калі адразу бачыць выхад з сытуацыі, то сам хаос істотна не паўплывае на стабільнасьць дзяржаўных, сацыяльных інстытуцый і эканомікі.

Накірунак я бачу наступны. Беларусь мусіць стаць 51-м ці далей па чарзе штатам ЗША. Сама краіна ад гэтага нічога не страціць, бо яе і так не прызнаюць да канца суверэннай дзяржавай. То бок, я не думаю, што амэрыканскі штат мае нашмат меньшую свабоду дзеяньняў чым Беларусь.

Маючы мяжу з Расеяй трэба быць альбо моцным як Украіна, альбо нязначным як Прыбалтыка. Гістарычны супернік Беларусі гэта сама Масква. І перамагла яна ВКЛ менавіта таму, што пашырылася на Ўсход. То бок, у Масквы ўся Расея ў кішэні, а што ёсьць у Беларусі? Каму мы патрэбныя?

То бок, Эўропа агулам занадта слабая. Канешне, па тэорыі, калі ўвайсьці ў НАТА, то было б усё добра, але справа ў тым, што ў НАТА яшчэ трэба ўвайсьці. На гэта папросту трэба мець нешта, каб з тваёй пазіцыяй лічыліся столькі дзяржаваў. Масква праблемаў з Украінай не баіцца, то бок, яны з ёй гатовыя, што называецца “нармальна ваяваць”. Але зь Беларусьсю яны будуць ваяваць з вар’яцкай жорсткасьцю. Не забывайма вайну 1654-1667 калі яны зьнічшылі фізічна і забралі ў палон больш палову найбольш здольнага насельніцтва сучаснай Беларусі. На жаль, Буча можа паказацца дзіцячым садком.

Таму каб увайсьці ў НАТА беларусам аднаго жаданьня будзе недастаткова. Трэба каб гэтага хацеў яшчэ нехта і вельмі моцны. І на дадзены момант гэта толькі Злучаныя штаты. Ды нават калі ўявіць, што мы ў НАТА. Усе гэтыя байкі аб тым, што “вось зараз Пуцін прайграе”… СССР распаўся менавіта па прычыне сваёй ізаляванасьці ад міжнароднага гандлю. То бок, Балтыйскі і Чарнаморскі шляхі блякуе НАТА, Поўнач замярзае, а Ціхаакіянскі - занадта далёка ад асноўнага насельніцтва. Але зараз усё мяняецца і трэба глядзець каб яна яшчэ не ўзмоцнілася. І ўся гэта сіла бачыць вольную Беларусь як страшны сон.

Дык вось, уявім, што Беларусь - ў НАТА як асобная дзяржава. Ейная важнасьць будзе настолькі высокая, то верагодна, што туды пераедзе большасьць амэрыканскіх базаў у Эўропе, то бок, само беларускае войска нават калі будзе стаяць у адным шэрагу з Ізраілем і Швайцарыяй будзе мець малое значэньне. То бок, нас павінен нехта абараняць. Але каму гэта трэба?

Я выношваю ў сабе гэтую ідэю ўжо шосты год. За гэты час з’явіліся нават доказы, што яна жыцьцяздольная. Я ўжо расказвала аб тым, што была, верагодна, першая ў Беларусі, хто пачаў рабіць акцыі пасьля выбараў удзень. І рабіла я гэта менавіта са сьцягам ЗША. Магу дадаць, што падчас шляху гэта не спадабалася толькі некалькім мужчынам старэйшага ўзросту, што цалкам сфармаваліся ў Савецкім Саюзе. Але вось мужчынам якія сфармаваліся ў незалежнай Беларусі гэта наадварот вельмі нават спадабалася. Пэрспэктыва ясна на чыім баку. І ж пасьля гэтага пратэсты выбухнулі - сьцяг ЗША бязумоўна гэта была адна з тых іскар, што запаліла беларусаў. Значыць, грамадзтва падсьвядома ў гэтым бачыць надзею, пэўны выхад.

Далей таксама цікава. Падчас пратэстаў я часам глядзела рэпартажы з англамоўнага канала Deutsche Welle. І мне аднойчы неверагодна пашанцавала на такі камэнт пад адным з відэа, прыкладная цытата: “Belarus is really the U.S. Trump needs to invade it“.

Само гэтае імкненьне Трампа наконт Канады ці Грынляндыі выглядае, канечне, дзіўна, але гэта гаворыць, што ў амэрыканскага грамадзтва недзе ў глыбіне ёсьць пэўнае імкненьне да пашырэньня. Як быццам чагосьці не хапае. Навошта Трампу Канада ці Грынляндыя, калі факт наяўнасьці Беларусі як чарговага штату гэта пісталет прыстаўлены да галавы да расейкага цара? Такім чынам і вернецца ўжо, нарэшце, Масква пад ліцьвінскі бот.

Менавіта сыходзячы з дадзенага бачаньня будучыні можна зрабіць вывад, што стан здароўя спадара Лукашэнкі гэта выключна ягоная прыватная справа.

Hello. So I don't hold a Belarusian passport, and I thought about visiting my grandfather in Brest, maybe more family in Minsk. I visit every few years and the last time was around 2022-23, it was okay with no special problems. I speak Russian pretty fluently as my parents taught me since birth.

How is the situation at the moment?

Hey guys, i'm from America and i've been doing some research on family history, on my father's side. Both sides of my family are eastern European in background, mostly Russian, Polish and Austrian. At least, those are what they were when they arrived here. From what I've looked up, the borders in that particular area in Eastern Europe have changed a lot in the past couple hundred years.

On my dad's side, his fathers parents were immigrants. I was always told, and he was always told, is that his grandfather was Russian. But from what I've seen it seems that they were likely Belarusian. I was able to see an immigration document and it lists my dad's grandfathers birthplace as Minsk, Russia, which is now Belarus. My dad also mentioned hearing about some kind of royal or noble connection but i'm not sure of that.

My dads grandfathers last name was Kalechitz before it was shortened later. He immigrated to the US around 1910 and was born in the 1880's. When I looked that up, all the results come back to people in United States but there's alternate spellings that show people in Belarus and Ukraine, mostly Kalechits and Kalechyts. When I translated it into Russian, калечиц, it pulls up a Wikipedia page of a guy with that last name killed by the USSR, as well as a current government official in Belarus with the same last name. And all these people seem to have been born in Minsk. My dad mentioned hearing something about him being from Grodno, which I looked up is also in Belarus, but not very close to Minsk.

As for my dad's grandmother, I also found her immigration records, and she immigrated from a tiny village called Usznia. However, it was also listed in a different document as Zloczow Ushn, which is a nearby city that is bigger. Both were part of Austria-Hungary in Galicia, and both towns are now part of Ukraine. On one document, it listed that she was from Austria-Galicia, but she spoke Polish. It lists her maiden name before getting married, as spelled two ways in different documents. One is spelled Baluchinska, which sounds Russian, and the other, Baluczenska, which sounds Polish. So I don't think his grandmother was Belarusian, but I'm pretty sure his grandfather was.

If anyone knows some history on these names, what they mean, any interesting information, or any kind of help on this, it will be greatly appreciated!

Considering the current political situation, is it realistic that I can travel in and out of belarus without getting arrested/drafted/held back?

I was born there and as such have a valid passport, however I am a resident of italy with a passport from there also.

I'm really trying to visit my grandma which I haven't seen in about 8 years, bur I'm not looking forward to being stuck in the country.

Чалавек з’яўляецца галоўнай каштоўнасьцю дэмакратычнага грамадзтва і сярод нас ёсьць цэлыя тысячы людзей якія фактычна знаходзяцца ў закладніках. Такім чынам можна было б надаць дадзенай найбольш балючай наяўнай праблеме асаблівае значэньне.

У кого-нибудь еще наблюдаются проблемы с интернетом в последние несколько дней? Как beltelecom так и МТС лагают, картинки в соц сетях почти не грузятся. Такое было и ранее, но в последние дни как-то особенно часто

Учора Лукашэнка заявіў:

Але Ціханоўская камэнтуе так нібы той сказаў праўду:

«Сёньня Лукашэнка зноў пракамэнтаваў магчымы выпуск палітвязьняў. За кратамі сядзяць звычайныя беларусы — лекары, настаўнікі, студэнты, пэнсіянэры, людзі з інваліднасьцю. Менавіта іх дыктатар хлусьліва называе небясьпечнымі бандытамі, якія нібыта рабілі выбухі ў Беларусі. Але гэта спроба апраўдаць рэпрэсіі супраць людзей, якія мірна адстойвалі свае перакананьні і правы... Прымусовая дэпартацыя з краіны — гэта працяг палітычнага тэрору і несправядлівае пакараньне людзей безь віны. Рэжым мусіць спыніць рэпрэсіі цалкам, а ня проста замяніць адзін ціск на іншы».

Шырока вядома, што сярод палітвязьняў ёсьць як тыя, хто зьбіраецца пакінуць краіну ў выпадку вызваленьня так і тыя, хто гэтага рабіць не зьбіраецца. Істотна, што другая група з’яўляецца даволі малалікай і пастаянна скарачаецца. Тады пытаньне- чаму нельга прапанаваць падзяліць усіх на гэтыя дзьве катэгорыі і проста адпусьціць за мяжу тых, хто хоча з’ехаць і далей ужо разьбірацца што рабіць з астатнімі?

Гэта гаворыць аб тым, што Лукашэнка выкарыстоўвае палітвязьняў у якасьці закладнікаў, а Ціханоўская, па сутнасьці, не займаецца іхным вызваленьнем.
